During and after the Spanish American the United States helped drive Spain out of the Philippines. Instead of letting the Philippines running their own government the U.S decided that they would imperialize them. The views of anti imperialist and imperialist were different because the anti imperialist said the U.S would be hypocrites if we took over the Philippines, imperialist said the the Philippines could not run their own government so we had to do it, and the views are similar because they had the outlook on how this would affect race.
