They both utilized symbolism, imagery, and metaphorical language but showed differences in tone. Christina Rossetti and Henry Longfellow utilized symbolism to signify ideas and qualities by giving them symbolic meanings that guides the reader to understand the poem as a whole. In “Remember”, the poet incorporated the volta-the shift. Before line 9, the speaker insisted the beloved remember ought to remember her. Afterward, she changes her mind and says it is better for her beloved to forget her because remembering her will be painful. That shift symbolized the speaker’s love. She would rather sacrifice the only thing keeping her “alive” and metaphorically kill herself, than to ask her lover to hold onto the pain. In “The Cross of Snow” incorporates symbolism in the title. The “cross” is a symbolic meaning before Christians because Jesus died on the cross and “snow” is white which represents purity. Longfellow essentially says that his wife is angelic and pure. ...Haley Schroeder AP English Lit & Comp Hedda Gabler Hedda Gabler Interpretation In Hedda Gabler, Henrik Ibsen wrote this difficult play that caused different interpretations among people. Some found fault; some simply confessed puzzlement. This play was one of Ibsen’s later ones and was judged by the context of his earlier plays. The most common misperception of Hedda Gabler arose, however, from a tendency to interpret the play through its title and hence its protagonist, who was studied totally bare of any offsetting virtues. Later on in the play it was directed more towards the structure. “Retrospective action” was brought up and this strictly describes Ibsen’s way of telling the crucial events preceding the action of the play in the first few scenes of the exposition by reuniting characters after not seeing each other and it helps bring each one of them up to date on the past. Hedda Gabler is not without structural weakness. Lovberg has an attitude that is a predicting disaster; Ibsen’s view on scholarly enterprise is just ludicrous; and Hedda’s inadequacy of affiliation with the play acts as a threat to the dramatic unity. However, it’s also a breeding ground for people who “typ leik di!!!1” I used to be one of those people. However, over time I slowly learned the difference between “Their” and “They’re” and that it was easy to just add an apostrophe to “I dont know” instead of typing “I dunno“ or “idk.“ This sort of metamorphosis transitioned from “text speak” a form of typing where “Are you with Mom?” could be turned into “r u w/ mom” with no sort of punctuation or capitalization, all the way to generally accepted grammar and spelling. For quite some time, I wandered around the internet interjecting my 12 year old opinions in text speak. Which often resulted in them telling me to basically shut up. I didn’t catch on, so I kept doing it for quite some time. Eventually, my “text speak” evolved into “1337 (Pronounced like the “lite” in “Elite“) speak.” In which some letters are replaced with numbers in a word, and intentional typos were born. “owned” became “pwned.” But for the most part, it can be made into a sort of legible sentence. However, like with text speak, it lacks capitalization unless they left caps lock on. In mild cases, the sentence “That guy just got his butt kicked” would become “That guy just got pwned. Rowling, or both; but not everyone has noticed the similarities and differences between the two. Both franchises remain very successful, and there is a question; “Is Stephenie Meyer the next J.K. Rowling?” The novels are extremely well-known and of the fantasy genre, but have numerous differences, from themes and content to writing style and structure. The books are of the same genre and have related themes, but have attracted a vast difference in readers. While similar in many aspects, the two novels bare many differences as well. Twilight can be summarized as a romance, fantasy novel about a girl, Bella, who moves to a new town and ends up falling in love with a vampire named Edward, while Harry Potter is the tale of a boy who lives with horrid relatives and finds out he’s actually a famous wizard in a secret, magical world unknown to non-magic folk, also known as “muggles”.
