...Following the September 11th terrorist attack on the World Trade Center and Pentagon, President George Bush and British Prime Minister Blair gave speeches regarding the terrorist attacks. In both of their speeches they used a variety of rhetorical strategies combined with a distinct tone to express their sadness towards the families affected by the tragic event. President George Bush and Prime Minister Blair gave very passionate and emotional speeches concerning the tragedy. In Bush’s speech, his tone was dismal and somber but also very motivating. He used phrases such as “suffered great loss” and “even grief recedes with time and grace” to express his deep sorrow for the families who lost loved ones. However, President Bush also states our country will define our times, not be defined by them. This statement shows his determination to stay strong and united and move forward from this event. It can be seen all through his speech that he is very inspirational and wants America to stand united, emerge from the ruble stronger than ever and take vengeance upon whomever was accountable for this event. On the other hand, while both Bush and Blair are deeply dismayed, Blair’s speech is far more touching when compared to Bush’s speech. Blair, unlike President Bush, used a personal example in his speech, saying a middle-aged mother looked him in the eyes and told him her only son had died and asked him why? This personal example makes Blair’s speech very emotional and moving,...

...AP Essay #1 Henry Z 04/21/10 Smith Pd. 2 Behavioral, psychoanalytic/psychodynamic, biological, and cognitive perspective each has its own cause of anxiety and treatment for reducing these anxieties. Behavioral anxiety can be caused from trauma. Trauma is when an extremely distressing experience that causes emotional shock and may have long-lasting psychological effects. The ego is the largely conscious, "executive" part of personality that among the demands of the if, superego and reality. The superego is the part of the personality that represents internalized ideals and provides standards for judgment and for future aspirations. ...Frq Essay During 1450 through 1650, Europe went through a period of significant economic growth. Influences such as the discovery of new worlds and its riches and exotic produces, inflation of taxation within lower economic levels, and a rise in the previously lower population helped create this growth. Of course, smaller factors such as wars, religion, geography, and power shifts also greatly contributed to it. From 1450 to 1650, Europe experienced an age of discovery, possibly the greatest influence to its economic growth. The period is distinguished as a time when the Europeans began exploring the world by sea in hopes of finding trading partners, new goods, and trade routes. Many countries began to explore for good, spices or maybe even gold, but main reason for exploration was the longing to find a new route for the spice and silk trades since traveling via the Silk Road had been restricted for Europeans by the Ottoman Empire, whom had just acquired Constantinople. The most famous of the voyages of this era are of Christopher Columbus sail to America in 1492. This voyage set off the competition between European nations too not only claim land but also for other goods, such as tobacco and most importantly gold. Europe had limited resources in valuable metals and the economy needed gold and silver. The gain of the exploration of the New World was vastly influential to the economy. Gold and silver flooded into Europe, particularly into Spain and eventually into the hands...

...Ruzylo 2 Part II: Literary Era Features of Post-Modernism As a result of the devastation and misfortune that World War II brought, literature displayed a drastic change in content and tone. Hitler’s reign brought Britain to “ruins” and the country itself was “torn apart by years of bombardment” (Modern/Post Modern Period of Literature, np). Writers in this era, such a Graham Greene conveyed the country’s “broken lives and spirits” through their pessimistic voices (np). Also, anti-imperalistic views were portrayed through focusing on the “war-blitzed West African colony” (np). Not only Greene, but many writers expressed the “[haunting]” of the “wounded world” that was produced in the European colonies in Africa (np). The war had a very desolate effect on the writing of this period, as the whole country was flustered with great grief and hardship. The war plastered the country into “a landscape that provided a metaphor for the broken lives and spirits” (np). Although war was one of the most crucial impacts on postmodernism, technology also played a key role on literature during this era. Advancements in technology brought on a whole new meaning of literature; “People no longer believed in literary works bearing one unique meaning, they derived their own meanings from pieces of literature” (Oak np). Computers and televisions gave media a broader span in the nature of the literary world also, by highlighting what the country’s citizens should focus their attention on (np)...

...Throughout the course of the first nine weeks in Mrs. Theisen's AP English Language and Composition class, my writing has changed dramatically. Towards the start of the year my writing was very weak, yet it has improved towards the start of the second nine weeks. My writing began in this class with bad thesis statements, weak transitions, awkward grammar, and lack of relevant evidence. My writing skills at the beginning of this class started in a rough spot. There are a plethora of examples of how weak my writing was at the beginning of the nine weeks. To begin, my thesis sentences lacked relevance and contained bad grammar - if I had a thesis sentence to begin with. In the very beginning of the year I had no thesis statements in my papers,...

...am in AP English. Among them the three that stand out the most are: getting a good grade, learning enough to pass the AP exam, and improving my writing capabilities. My first and probably foremost goal for this class is to achieve a good grade. To many people getting a good grade is an obvious goal when taking an AP class because there is no point in taking an AP class if you cannot get a good grade on it. While this is an obvious goal it is not an easy one. I know, I procrastinate and I usually forget to do homework and other forms of assignments. However, I will try my best this year to get a good grade in this class and all my other classes as well. My next goal is also one that many people would probably choose as well, learning enough to pass the AP exam. This is a very important goal as well. If I pass the AP exam I will not have to waste time and money in college because I have already passed the AP exam. However, this will also not be a simple achievement. An AP exam is quite difficult and I will have to learn many things to pass with a 3 or higher. My reading comprehension is very high and I am quite proud of it, however my writing capabilities and grammar sense are very lacking. I feel if I try hard, I will be able to overcome my weakness and get a good score on the AP exam. My last goal is to improve my writing capabilities. As I have stated earlier, my ability to write is very bad. It is severely lacking and I am having trouble even writing this essay. I usually...

...Over the past two school quarters, I have learned a lot from being in Ms.Kiyak’s AP Lang class. I’ve learned that there are things I need to work on because I am not a perfect writer and there are also things that I am good at. Two of my strengths when writing formally are I am thoughtful when creating thesis statements and I do a great job at using factual evidence. Which are seen in my synthesis essay and social justice speech. The thesis of my synthesis essay states “Sexual assault is an issue that is constantly faced in the workplace, at school, on the streets and even in the comfort of home. The society as a whole must not accept this as normal and must take actions towards fixing this problem; but, in order for this to happen, they must...

...AP students agonize over essay writing, knowing that their essays account for a major portion of their score on the exam. Understandably, there is concern. They want to do well. I wish there were a magic formula to essay success, but there isn't. I have tried to come up with a essay planner that works, but the trouble with something like that is that it cannot possibly account for all the variables that exist when a particular student reads and responds to a passage. Therefore, this little essay is an attempt to steer my AP students towards a philosophy of essay writing instead of trying to have an approach or a system. Where to begin? A few thoughts on beginning any essay ________________________________________ Before all else, as writers we must have something to say. And if it's not important or significant, then it is not generally worth saying. From what I can tell, all passages used on AP tests have something to reveal to readers. Before we write one single word about imagery or diction, we MUST figure out what that something is. What does this author have to say to us about being human, about our shared experiences, about our fears, our sorrows, our victories? Find this and you will have something to say. This something is what I call the "So What" and without it, your essay will be meaningless. So, if there is a step one, it is this: read and understand the passage given. This understanding of the meaningful, of the So What, is what will allow you to write an insightful...

What was the cause of fear in RBM? Answer: - Ram Bali Mishra (RBM) was a green jawan of about 20 years of age & working as a assistant to the Gun Position Officer. He had pleasant manners, turned himself out well & spoke well. He was a complete teetotaler, on-smoker & vegetarian. He was happy with his duties and working with the officers. After some span of a week the other officers noticed some changes in behavior of RBM. He also looked pale & worried. He was less talkative, less lively & his interaction with other jawans decreased. The other officers also tried to find out the reason but nothing emerged. So the RBM has been sent to Regimental Medical Officer (RMO). The RMO inspected him and gave some medicines.
