...1. A case study focuses on one or more person and when scientists put all their attention to a small group they can get tremendous feedback for those cases. There is no other research method where so much information can be collected. This allows a deep understanding of the people being studied. Although being so beneficial it also has weaknesses. This approach is only used when people are interesting to scientists because they have a rare characteristic. That means the people that are the focus of the study are not like other people. Since scientists want to explain all behavior focusing on a special group of people make it hard to generalize the observations to a larger group. Generalizing is the ability to apply findings of a certain project to a large portion of society. 2....

...ORGANISATIONAL BEHAVIOUR - Managing Organisational Change Essay Topic: One set of authors state that “An organisation’s ability to manage change will have a significant effect on its performance and prosperity” (Graetz. F., et al, 2006, p2 in Grates F. et al, 2006, Managing Organisational Change, John Wiley & Sons, Australia), whereas another author claims that few corporate change efforts have ever been successful (Kotter, J.P., 2005, ‘Why Transformational Change Efforts Fail’, Harvard Business Review, March-April 1995, pp 59-67). Discuss these two statements and build an argument that explains this apparent contradiction with regard to relevant organizational behavioural theory. In my opinion, the statements presented above do not contradict one another, in fact the two statements presented support the need for successful organizational change and the need for concerted effort in implementing the change. In almost every case, the basic goal has been has been the same: to make fundamental changes in how business is conducted in order to help cope with a new, more challenging market environment. Change is an organizational need, at one time or other and management needs rigorous support in achieving positive change outcomes. I want to look in detail the change management theory and practice including Transformational Change, The Tools and Techniques used for Change Management, Transforming Organisations for Organic Growth, Cultural Revitalisation and Behavioural Responses...

How to Say Nothing in 500 Words Paul Roberts Paul Roberts (1917-1967) was a linguist, a teacher, and a writer at San Jose State College from 1946 to 1960 and at Cornell University from 1962 to 1964. His books on writing, including English Syntax (1954) and Patterns of English (1956), have helped generations of high school and college students become better writers. "How to Say Nothing in 500 Words" is taken from his best-known book, Understanding English (1958). Although written almost fifty years ago, the essay is still relevant for student writers today. Good writing, Roberts tells us, is not simply a matter of filling up a page; rather, the words have to hold the reader's interest, and they must say something. In this essay, Roberts uses lively prose and a step-by-step process to guide the student from the blank page to the finished essay. His bag of writing su;ptegies holds good advice for anyone who wants to write well. PREPARING TO READ How do you feel about writing? Do you find writing difficult? ...With reference to Attachment Theory discuss the importance of early childhood to emotional development. With reference to Attachment Theory this topic will discuss the importance of early childhood to emotional development. This work will be more focused in the development of the emotion of fear, anxiety and security or insecurity. For that reason, Bowlby’s theory is going to be considered due to the fact what he is the first attachment theorist, describing attachment as a ‘lasting psychological connectedness between human beings’ (Bowlby, 1964,p. 194). Bowlby believed that the earliest bonds formed by children with their caregivers have a great impact than will go on later on. Moreover, Bowlby will deal in “Basic Postulates in Theories of Anxiety and Fear” where we can find also Freud’s point of view and other theorists where they try to explain the concepts of “anxiety” and “fear”. Later, we find Schaffer and Emerson whom did a studio with sixty babies to see the measure of anxiety they could experiment. No less important is when a child start to go to school. There is going to be a separation of the child from their family so as a result fears and anxiety can also be found in early ages. The main point of attachment theory is that mothers who take care and are responsible with their infants’ needs creates at the same time a base of security for the child. All these points will be discussed through the topic. Psychologist John Bowlby was the first attachment theorist...

...Issue 6 Employee engagement August 2011 Issue 6 Employee engagement August 2011 APS Human Capital Matters: Employee engagement August 2011, Issue 6 Editor’s note to readers Welcome to the sixth edition of Human Capital Matters—the digest for time poor leaders and practitioners with an interest in human capital and organisational capability. This edition focuses on the concept of employee engagement and its application to the public service workforce. The contribution of employee engagement to organisational performance is central to many of the human capital reform initiatives advocated in Ahead of the Game: Blueprint for the Reform of Australian Government Administration. Importantly, there is an open question on whether the features of employee engagement in the public service differ from that of other organisations. The Australian Public Service Commission is working with other agencies on clarifying not only the key features of APS employee engagement but also what contribution engaged employees make to enhancing organisational capability. The concept of staff engagement has an enormous amount of currency in the business world today; for many the pursuit of ‘engaged’ staff is seen as an end in itself. But there are a broad range of definitions and interpretations of employee engagement in the literature: some are heavy with psychological theory while others link employee views and organisational strategy. However, there are common themes: for example, engagement...

...section Vi essay forms Many people use the term “essay” to mean any paper written for a class. In actuality, there are many different types of essays, each of which has a unique purpose, form, and style. We call these different types of essays “modes of discourse,” and they include expository, persuasive, and comparecontrast essays to name just a few. This section of the Guide has a dual purpose. First, various types of essays are described and suggestions are included about how to approach each particular type of writing. Second, the sample essays are good tools for you to see how these different essays look in their final form. These are not templates (no essay can be a carbon copy of another even in form), but they will give you a good idea of what a final piece of writing for each mode of discourse looks like. It would be advantageous to critically analyze the form and content of each sample against the instruction for how to write each type of essay. chapter 21 expository essays Jennifer propp An expository essay explains something using facts rather than opinions. The purpose of this type of essay is to inform an audience about a subject. It is not intended to persuade or present an argument of any kind. Writing this type of essay is a good way to learn about all the different perspectives on a topic. Many students use the expository essay to explore a variety of topics, and do so in a wide range of formats, including “process” and “definition”...

...climate change among the UK public and their policy implications Irene Lorenzonia,b,, Sophie Nicholson-Coleb, Lorraine Whitmarshb a School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, UK b Tyndall Centre for Climate Change Research, School of Environmental Sciences, University of East Anglia, Norwich, NR4 7TJ, UK Received 25 August 2006; received in revised form 12 January 2007; accepted 17 January 2007 Abstract This paper reports on the barriers that members of the UK public perceive to engaging with climate change. It draws upon three mixed-method studies, with an emphasis on the qualitative data which offer an in-depth insight into how people make sense of climate change. The paper defines engagement as an individual’s state, comprising three elements: cognitive, affective and behavioural. A number of common barriers emerge from the three studies, which operate broadly at ‘individual’ and ‘social’ levels. These major constraints to individual engagement with climate change have implications for achieving significant reductions in greenhouse gases in the UK. We argue that targeted and tailored information provision should be supported by wider structural change to enable citizens and communities to reduce their carbon dependency. Policy implications for effective engagement are discussed. r 2007 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved. Keywords: Climate change; Engagement; Barriers; Public perceptions; Mitigation; Behaviour 1.
