...Persuasive Paper Part 3: Possible Disadvantages, Answers, with Visuals ENG215 Research and Writing Strayer University March 13, 2015 Persuasive Paper Part 3: Possible Disadvantages, Answers, with Visuals Paying students to pass standardized tests has been in the works for a while now. The idea of paying students a financial incentive to pass standardized tests came from families who would give money to their kids if they brought home a report card with good grades. Offering students some type of financial incentive to pass standardized tests would get the students attention. Most students don’t care whether they pass or fail school, offering them money in exchange for scoring high on standardized tests would give students a reason to pay attention and pass standardized tests (Flannery, 2015). Motivating students with a financial incentive is a good way to get them to pass standardized tests (Bettinger, 2008). Problems with Standardized Testing Standardized testing ramped up in 2002 from the No Child Left behind Act. This act was going to hold public schools to a high standard of education, by measuring the students’ scores on statewide standardized tests. The reasons that standardized tests are a problem is from the following reasons: 1. Test scores can’t accurately measure learning: Standardized tests does not allow students to express themselves because they are multiple-choice. Open-ended tests would allow students to express themselves. 2. Standardized...

...How Nurses and Physicians Influence Health Care Reform Deana Sykes King University In my opinion, nurses will have much more influence on health system reform than physicians over the next 10 years. Many believe that physicians are more influential because they are the decision makers and revenue generators. As Hackman (2010) expressed, “Combined with an aging population and an influx of patients into the U.S. health care system by 2016, a direct result of the Affordable Care Act, we will face an unavoidable shortage of primary care physicians. The physician shortage will be further complicated by the high attrition rate of the profession. I believe this will be the time that nurses, unified in numbers, can be the most influential. Inevitably, Advanced Practice Nurses, DNPs, Nurse Practitioners, and Nurse Midwives will have to fill in the gaps. Legislation in several states already seeks to extend these professionals' autonomy by allowing them to practice independently of physicians. The leadership roles and education opportunities will increase for nurses, hopefully allowing for increased wages. I do believe, however, since physicians and nurses are the closest providers of patient care, we can influence great change working as a team. In the interest of patient care, neither of these professions can stand alone. With effective collaboration and re-establishing our common purpose, quality of care can be positively impacted. Doctors and nurses can help to keep patient...

...C8057 (Research Methods in Psychology): Writing Laboratory Reports Writing Lab Reports & APA Format Structure and Content of a Laboratory Report This following provides a brief overview of the structure and content of various elements in a laboratory report, based on APA guidelines. The APA publication manual can be referred to for more detail. The purpose of a lab report is to communicate research in a clear, systematic and standardised way. Primarily, a lab report should communicate the following things: → Why did I bother? Why did I do this experiment and why is it an interesting contribution to science? → How did I do it? How did I carry out this research (this should be detailed enough so that the experiment could be replicated precisely)? → What did I find? What were the results of your study? → So What? What do your findings mean in terms of your hypotheses and what theoretical contribution do they make? IMPORTANT! The advice that we give you in this handout is not inflexible, it is a guide! For example, when we say that the title should be fewer than 15 words, the world will not end if your title is 16 words. So, please use your common sense. In case you don’t have any, the snail of sense will appear to give you some advice. Format There are several sections to a lab report: → Title → Abstract → Introduction → Method o o o o o → Results → Discussion → References → Appendix (Optional) Title Your title should ideally be fewer than 15 words.
