Mental toughness is probably one of the most used but least understood terms used in applied sports. Athlete’s mental toughness is more important as their physical strength .Before you get to the competition stage first you must require having a mental toughness in you. When it’s time to compete and prove your physical and sports ability to yourself and to others with an audience present, stress and anxiety can often get in the way. Examples when taking a shot and missing in basketball or dropping a pass in football, you might feel failed or that you let your team down or maybe your friends watching, sometimes you feel as though you’re not good enough. People don’t realize that all humans make mistakes. Acknowledging that no one is perfect and that all you can do is put in your best effort knowing you failed won’t be a thought in your mind. Mental toughness in your performance also involves in tuning out on others opinions not letting words or bad habits from others get to you. Mental toughness is a competitive sport, competing against other athletes, or against a personal rival can be stressful sometimes before going into the game. It can cause anxiety to many athletes. Mental toughness is often needed to overcome any stress and anxiety to succeed. At all levels of competition, the athletes and teams that usually successful all have on characteristic in common, and that is mental toughness. An individual who is an average athlete and has mental toughness will be more successful than an individual who has natural talent but who is not mentally tough. This is because the mind is stronger than the body. Winners are not always determined by physical skill alone. Mental toughness is difficult to define. It is not just one thing, but it consists of many factors. It can include in Continuous effort, Self – discipline, confidence, focus on the present, controlled thoughts. Also there can be steps to mental toughness , Such as asking yourself do you want to be successful, choose a role model, lighten up , allow yourself downtime and do not expect to be perfect. Most performance problems that athletes and other performers struggle with are not a result of poor conditioning, inadequate coaching or a lack of physical skills or technical ability. Sure, these physical or mechanical factors can sometimes cause sub-par play. However, when the heat of competition is turned up high, the individual performer or team that falls apart most often does so because of mental factors like runaway nervousness, intimidation. Mentally tough athlete’s respond in varying ways which makes them able to remain feeling relaxed, calm, and energized because they have learned to develop two skills. Coaches say that mental toughness is one of the most important psychical characteristics, related to outcomes and success in an elite sport. To have a burning desire and motivation to succeed feels better than anything else, especially when bouncing back from a bad or good performance. Mental toughness is also a mindset that you have to have when just living life period. Nobody life is perfect and everybody has its up’s and downs and if you are not mentally tough you will find it hard to get through the down falls. You also have to be strong for just not yourself but for others such as family members because one day they are going to need you to be there for them. You also have to motivate them get by just even day to day life or if there is a big death lost to them , they are going to need someone to build them back up. Some people are just not building to have mental toughness in them and some people have a real good mental toughness, you do not have to be an athlete to have that. It’s just something in life almost like a key to help you past by because like I said before everybody life is not perfect and only the strong survives. With mental toughness, you rely on all of your strengths and abilities. You acknowledge your weaknesses but push through every aspect of your game to become better. You stay relaxed at all times and focus only on what you can control in each moment. All world-class champions have something in common and it’s not explosive speed or freaky strength, as important as they are. What all champions have in common is superior mental toughness. They have an ability to dig down deep and deliver incredible performances time and time again. Before you can be truly successful you have to fail. If you never fail, you’ve never pushed yourself passed your comfort zone into deep waters. Failure is one of the greatest character builders ever. When you fail, you have to dig down deep and figure out where you went wrong, how you can overcome it, and how you can prevent failing in the future from your learning’s. Once you have failed and accept it, you realize that it’s not the end of the world and you no longer have to fear it. Putting that fear behind you, your mind becomes clearer and you can push beyond your limits and into the winning zone. In conclusion mental toughness is a mind game. It’s like having two people on your shoulder with one side something talking bad trying to bring you down and the other side something trying to succeed. You have to dig deep and fight for what you believe in and if you don’t you will fail. You do not have to be an athlete or someone with strength neither do you need size. Anybody from any age can be mentally tuff. This can make you or break you in life because you will someday go through ups and downs and depending on how you handle it will determine how strong you are mentally. Everybody is tuff into you are one day tested and you see many people either break down or is expose the best athletes or even regular people aren’t scared to be exposed in life.
