...Humanities Today Karima M. Kibble HUM/102 April 5, 2012 John Bontempi Humanities Today This paper will discuss current forms of humanities and how we relate to them in present. This paper will differentiate between the humanities and other modes of human inquiry and expression. It will address the definition of humanities; provide examples of Art, Music, Architecture, Philosophy, and Literature and explain why each example reflects current developments in politics, socioeconomics, and technology. Humanities provides people from different cultural backgrounds to experience and gain knowledge about present and past differences. Humanities; also the study of opposing studies of life combined with history. Today; humanities by name are no different from the past. As the world changes from day to day, so has the age of humanities and how people define themselves through the many forms self-expression also known as humanities. Art, music, architecture, philosophy, and literature are what our society thrives on. Without these humanities the world would not have a place in history and there would be a sense of displacement....

Distinguish between perpetual and periodic inventory systems. Identify the effects of inventory errors on the financial statements. Understand the items to include as inventory cost. Describe and compare the cost flow assumptions used to account for inventories. Explain the significance and use of a LIFO reserve. Understand the effect of LIFO liquidations. Explain the dollar-value LIFO method. Identify the major advantages and disadvantages of LIFO. Understand why companies select given inventory methods. Inventories in the Crystal Ball A substantial increase in inventory may be a leading indicator of an upcoming decline in profit margins. Take the auto industry as an example. Detroit’s inventories have been growing for several years because the domestic manufacturers like to run the factories at full capacity, even if they are not selling cars as fast as they can make them. The current arrangement is particularly tough for General Motors. It overproduces and then tries to push the sales with incentives and month-long “blow-out” sales. GM is hoping that the ever-growing market will cover the problem until customer demand grows to the point where the cars are purchased without so many incentives. But recently, all that was growing was GM inventories...

Our nation's food supply is now controlled by a handful of corporations that often put profit ahead of consumer health, the livelihood of the American farmer, the safety of workers and our own environment. We have bigger-breasted chickens, the perfect pork chop, insecticide-resistant soybean seeds, even tomatoes that won't go bad, but we also have new strains of e coli--the harmful bacteria that causes illness for...

...Number 115– October 2010 Globalization, Economic Freedom and Human Rights Axel Dreher Martin Gassebner Lars-H. R. Siemers ISSN: 1439-2305 Globalization, Economic Freedom and Human Rights Axel Dreher a Martin Gassebner b Lars-H. R. Siemers c October 2010 Abstract Using the KOF Index of Globalization and two indices of economic freedom, we empirically analyze whether globalization and economic liberalization affect governments’ respect for human rights using a panel of 106 countries over the 1981-2004 period. According to our results, physical integrity rights significantly and robustly increase with globalization and economic freedom, while empowerment rights are not robustly affected. Due to the lack of consensus about the appropriate level of empowerment rights as compared to the outright rejection of any violation of physical integrity rights, the global community is presumably less effective in promoting empowerment rights.
