...Case No.2 Arch Communications Group Inc. 1. To me it seams that Arch is showing good performance and risky and agresive growth in bad industry. The paging industry is growing on average of 27% a year and it is experiacing a market shift from bussines clients to consumer clients, but there are signs that show that this industry is not favorable and has 3 big problems that make the industry fragile and vulnerable. • There is fierce competition in the industry that has turned into a price war. This reduces the margins and drives out profitability. Curently the industry is consolidating (mergers and aqusitions), but it does not relieve the presure and the competition with lower price goes on. • The industry is dependant on 2 large supplyers. Most probably they are avere of this situation and use it but grabing the bigger share of profits generated by pagers, by seting prices for the devices higher than they could with more competitors around. The cost of paging devices tied up cash in paging service companies, causing them to look for means of financing for that and that results in large interest expense and depreciation. • The case describes the cellular phone service industry as harmless, but as a much younger industry it is already almoust the size of paging industry (34milj. Pagers, 32milj. Mobile phones). The pager is a complement product for cell phone, althought they both use similar technology. In case cellulars develop mesaging service the...

...ORIGINAL INVESTIGATION Benefits of Influenza Vaccination for Low-, Intermediate-, and High-Risk Senior Citizens Kristin L. Nichol, MD, MPH; J. Wuorenma, RN, BSN; T. von Sternberg, MD Background: Vaccination rates for healthy senior citizens are lower than those for senior citizens with underlying medical conditions such as chronic heart or lung disease. Uncertainty about the benefits of influenza vaccination for healthy senior citizens may contribute to lower rates of utilization in this group. Objective: To clarify the benefits of influenza vaccina- tion among low-risk senior citizens while concurrently assessing the benefits for intermediate- and high-risk senior citizens. Methods: All elderly members of a large health maintenance organization were included in each of 6 consecutive study cohorts. Subjects were grouped according to risk status: high risk (having heart or lung disease), intermediate risk (having diabetes, renal disease, stroke and/or dementia, or rheumatologic disease), and low risk. Outcomes were compared between vaccinated and unvaccinated subjects after controlling for baseline demographic and health characteristics. Results: There were more than 20 000 subjects in each pitalizations (P .001), a 32% decrease in hospitalizations for all respiratory conditions (P .001), and a 27% decrease in hospitalizations for congestive heart failure (P .001). Immunization was also associated with a 50% reduction in all-cause mortality (P .001). Within the risk...

...temperament/personality (e.g., neuroticism); negative cognitions; problems in self-regulation and coping; and interpersonal dysfunction. These vulnerabilities both increase individuals’ chances of encountering stress and decrease their ability to deal with the stress once it occurs. Although several existing depression-prevention studies have targeted one or more of these risk factors, the efficacy of these various prevention programs for youth with different combinations of these risk factors needs to be investigated further. Most existing depression-prevention programs in youth have used cognitive– behavioral techniques, with some success. Other depressionprevention strategies have included training in coping, social problem solving, social skills, communication skills, and parenting. A comprehensive prevention program is recommended that includes multiple intervention components, each of which addresses risk and protective factors across different domains and levels of analysis. ...Summary Entertainment has often been regarded as a means of indulgence although it can prove fundamental to the development of ideas. Lack of entertainment can however cause the brain to shut down. Entertainment enables s sense of innovation. As a result, numerous ideas are created. Studies show that almost half of discoveries are done during entertainment when the inventor enjoys the task he partakes. However, over entertainment has its own pitfalls. This paper argues that society is becoming over entertained. Generation Fun: Are we as a Society Becoming over Entertained? In a society where we are overwhelmed by bright lights, images, and electrical gadgets it is worth questioning one of the most important parts of our society, Entertainment. Entertainment is multidimensional and could be personal or involve the general public. Playing a game of chess or scrabble could be viewed as a personal form of entertainment. Watching a movie however is a general form of entertainment as the experience is shared with the general public. As entertainment continues to become a trillion-dollar industry, the society has continued to live up to the entertainment culture of the “entertainment age.” The question, “Are we as a society becoming over entertained?” can be approached using different angles given its complexity. I have developed my point of view that as a society, we are spending too much time on entertainment or enjoyment. Entertainment can take an individual...
