Architecture is crucial to everyday life. Without it, we would have no warm houses to live in, no office to go to work in, no school to learn at, or no mall to shop at. We wouldn't have the nice computer or tv, because they would be ruined the second it starts to rain. All the major advances in technology are protected by architecture. It truly is a major part of life. Architecture is one of the vast subjects that is very hard to define. The technical definition is the art and science of designing buildings and structures. That could include the design of any built environment, structure or object, from town planning, urban design and landscape architecture to furniture and objects. A career in architecture requires much work and schooling, for a architect's decisions can affect the public's safety. For that reason, architects must earn a license before being able to practice. To earn this license, one must first achieve a university degree in architecture. Once this is accomplished, the degreed person will find a practicum, or internship, and work in that for two to three years. Last but not least, the candidate will take a Registration Examination or a series of exams, and, if passed, he or she will receive their license. After receiving their license, a architect must slowly climb their way up to the top of the architectures. An architecture firm may take a recently licensed architect and give them a job as architect/designer one. This job will have said employee in charge of particular parts of a project, but restricted to parameters set by those above them. A licensed graduate with six to eight years of experience may be employed as architect/designer two. They would be responsible for daily design or technical development of projects. After eight to ten years of experience a person may be brought on as an architect/designer three, who is in responsible of significant parts of a project. With ten or more years of experience, your job title increases greatly. You may be brought on as a senior architect/designer or a project manager. A senior architect/designer would be responsible for the design or technical focus of projects, while a project manager would assign all the architects under him jobs on a project, and altogether manage budgeting, scheduling, and client contacts. If in these positions, the only people above you are the principals or presidents of the firm. Salary varies depending on your current job title. When first starting out, a typical person would make around forty-five thousand a year. Once experienced and much higher up in the architecture titles, one can make up to two hundred thousand a year. Thus, to earn a decent salary, one must work hard and persevere for a long time.
