...contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why? As the world is globalizing, we see many changes around us. The knowledge we learned once from books, is now more important to experience. However the question that strikes every mind today is which source is more important? Gaining knowledge from experience or from books? People may have different opinions. Admittedly, both have advantages and they are important. We can’t reject the fact that ‘Not everything that is learned is contained in books. “If we say that we are trying to learn how to swim, we can’t learn the whole things specifically without experiences. This tells us how important experiences are. But as far as I am concerned, gained knowledge from books is more important due to many reasons. Firstly, gaining knowledge from books is more important is because we can’t experience everything in the world. There are lots of things that we learn through our life and we can’t learn them all by experiencing. Nevertheless, if we find particular books that include the information we are looking for, it will help us understand better. For instance, how could possibly we learn about forefathers without books? How could we also learn about the history of our countries? Obviously, it is impossible to learn these things by experiences. Thus, gaining knowledge from books play an important role as not...

...is contained in books.” Compare and contrast knowledge gained from experience with knowledge gained from books. In your opinion, which source is more important? Why? ESSAY There has been a hot debate as to which method of gaining knowledge is more important: through books or through experience. Although most people will say that acquiring knowledge from experience proves to be more effective, I myself believe learning from books plays a more important role. To begin with, there is no deny that the information in books has been scientifically proved, and thus correct and widely accepted by the public at a particular time. In order to be written in the books, the knowledge is usually the result of exhaustive research and experiment of previous generations; therefore, learning from books will reduce the time that students use to do the experiments by themselves. This knowledge is particularly important for those who want to be successful in schools, colleges and even jobs. As the matter of fact, from primary school to University, books are completely indispensable for students as they provide the fundamental knowledge required to develop people’s ability. As for jobs, books remain the best choice when it comes to giving information needed in order to perform well in a particular profession. Secondly, from academic reading, people will improve their knowledge in various aspects much faster than from experience. Nowadays, it is very easy to buy books at reasonable price...

...When I was little, I was obsessed with this ongoing series called “Warriors”. It’s a 36 book series about cats who live in the wild. Now, I know, not much to be enchanted with, but I was 7 and it was the first time I hadn’t gotten bored with a book and quit halfway through. From 3rd to 7th grade, I dutifully read each book and waited with baited breath for the last official book in the series, when Firestar (the main character) would finally kill the ghost of his arch nemesis Tigerstar, therefor bringing peace to the clans. I waited for that battle for nearly 5 years. 5 years of my childhood revolved around that single, epic conclusion. In that time, I expanded my reading and actually started writing Warrior fanfiction before fanfiction became. I grew out of the series eventually, but I still read the last book when it came out. Frankly, I found the last book wanting (and they killed Firestar. The nerve. The sheer gall), but I found that I didn’t truly mind. I had grown up (a little), and had already found dozens of book series that I liked more. They were more challenging with advanced plotlines and better character development, and I never would have read them if I hadn’t fallen in love with reading through Warriors. In this case, my journey was more important than my destination. In fact, I find that to be true in most...

...somebody, what they want, what they believe, and not love them the way they love themselves.” -Orson Scott card, Enders game. Ender's Game is a book about a boy’s struggle in the future to take down humanity's biggest enemy, The Buggers. Ender struggles throughout the entire book learning what the enemy does, and their weaknesses. However, Ender has a challenging time destroying his enemy because at the point where he understands them enough to destroy them, he loves his enemy and has no desire to. There are two ways you can experience The Enders Game: you can either read the book or view the movie. The book is far superior to the movie because it includes more detail. In the book we get to see far more of who ender is and his struggles, rather than just the superficial details the movie gives to us....

...“Education comes out of more than just books”. Education is not merely the knowledge that books give to a student in school or college; in fact it is a whole lot more. Knowledge is defined as expertise, and skills acquired by a person through experience or education(Rosa K. , 2009) . So do the accumulated knowledge skills and values come from learning subjects such as history, algebra, statistics etc.? Does learning those subjects give you experiences, does it give you practical knowledge, or moreover does it give you the skills of socializing with people having different attributes? The answer to all these complicated questions is a simple no and therefore some people believe that education is much more than learning subjects. Yes education is more than learning subjects, for the following reasons: • It does not give you past experiences • It does not give you practical knowledge • Education might not enhance your ideas but may surely overpower them. Agreed education has to start somewhere but that does not mean that wisdom comes from mugging up hundred or two hundred text books, wisdom comes from experiences, awareness and logical thinking. By simply mugging up pages of theories right before an exam or test does not help because neither is one gaining any sort of knowledge nor is one gaining any experience out of it. It is like eating and then spitting it out. For instance: for subjects such...

...Marketing 310 Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping I chose the book Why We Buy: The Science of Shopping by Paco Underhill. This book really opened my eyes to a lot of marketing issues. In all honesty, I chose this book because I’ve always found the idea behind shopping interesting and I’ve always wondered why I walk out of the store with an item I don’t even need. After reading the book, I discovered that this book is actually not about that at all. This book is actually far more interesting and tackles some serious problems in marketing today. These days, very few stores open to serve new markets. The primary purpose of a store in this day and age is to steal someone else’s market share. The book outlines key elements that are mandatory for success in marketing. The book starts with how retail outlets need to monitor the paths that people take in the store. How people enter and move around the store, and which direction they take. By observing how customers move around, we can gear end caps and aisles accordingly to push out the products we need to sell the most. The trick is to walk the store in a customer’s shoes. It’s been proven that people tend to enter a store and take the direction they typically drive on. It’s extremely important to understand this concept when planning out displays. It’s very important for people to find what they’re looking for immediately. Customers don’t want to have to search high and low to find the product they need. A big...

... Border Books and Amazon.com both started out selling books. So, why is Amazon.com one of the largest retailers in the world and Borders Books is out of business? There are many things that go into making a business a success. It is not enough to have a product to sell and a location to sell that product. In order to understand the difference between Amazon.com and Borders Books, it is important to look at the history and core business of each company, the management approach each company took to Internet marketing and sales, the reasons for Amazon’s success despite not turning a profit for the first five to six years, the reasons Borders Books, although they were initially successful ended up in bankruptcy, the extent to which the management of each company adapted to changing market conditions, and ways a company should build flexibility to back up its decision making process so to adapt to changing market conditions. In order to understand the difference between Amazon.com and Border Books, it is important to understand the history and core business of each company. Looking at Amazon.com first, Amazon.com opened for business on July, 16 1995. “The company was nothing more than a few people packing and shipping boxes of books from a two-car garage” (Webley, 2010). The company was using a desk made out of an old door to pack the books. When Amazon.com first started selling books, people wondered why anyone would purchase books off-line when they could...

...kill herself, and what is there in your life that is worth dying for? Books meant almost everything to the woman and if the firemen burned the books, there is no point in staying alive if everything she believes in is gone. She also understood that the books would be burned one way or another and instead of the firemen burning them, she burned it herself. This is used to protest the burning of books because traditionally the firemen were the ones to start the fire, but by starting the fire by herself, she hopes to show how books are of a significance than the belief that it is detrimental to the people and to incite a protest against the burning of books. In my life, the thing that is worth dying for is my family as it is...

...When most people hear about book banning, they think of libraries across the country clearing their shelves of books thought to be taboo or problematic. While that once was a problem in the United States, book banning has taken a tactical, less obvious form of censorship and it is mostly in schools. It’s not a stranger to anyone that middle and high schools have required reading lists that name several books students will have to read for the academic school year. The books can range from anything to everything and are often stock packed with various themes, lessons, and messages. However, plenty of parents feel that certain ideas should not be taught to their children, especially when the ideas conflict with their own personal beliefs and...

...and in 1946 founded an influential literary review, Critique, which he edited until his death. George Bataille’s “Theory of Religion” is an attempt to sum up religion in as succinct a manner as possible. To be all things to all religions, the book is very vague and difficult to understand. Bataille created a chart or table to explain what he was doing and to give body to the work. ALAS! The chart is not in the book, lost to time. Thus, as it exists, Bataille’s book is a glimpse into the inner workings of a genius mind. It is a colorful attempt to understand “religion,” whatever that is. Further, it is an off-the beaten path romp through the daisies of the study of religion, sweet flowers that often remain unromped. Theory of Religion brings to philosophy what Bataille’s earlier book, The Accursed Share, brought to anthropology and history; namely, an analysis based on notions of excess and expenditure. Bataille brilliantly defines religion as so many different attempts to respond to the universe’s relentless generosity. Framed within his original theory of generalized economics and based on his masterly reading of archaic religious activity, Theory of Religion constitutes, along with The Accursed Share, the most important articulation of Bataille’s work. Theory of...

Q.2 Nick Wreden is Managing Director of FusionBrand, a consulting firm that specializes in customer loyalty and metrics-based branding. He has over 20 years’ experience of branding products for Fortune 500 and other companies, including IBM, Cisco and Hitachi. He has written one more book named “FusionBranding: How to Forge Your Brand for the Future”. Nick wreden has given more than 200 seminars on different aspects of branding Q.3 The concepts presented in the book havedefinitely originated from the authors mind and give a great perspective to brand managers on how theyshould focus on retention branding rather than acquisition branding to have greater profitability and sustainability of brands. The author has been inspired by his beloved sister, Jeanne, who is also willing to write a book that challenges conventional stasis. Marcus Osborne and Pauline Goodwin were also his inspirations[xiii] Q.4 Yes, it shows why it is important for brands to have profitability more than market share because what good is a greater market share if it doesn’t generate good profitability and it really changes the perception on why brand managers should work on retention branding...

...analysis, he determined that books were at the top of that list. Although Bezos liked the name Abracadabra, he decided to call his online bookshop AMAZON.COM. Today, Amazon.com has more than 40 million customers and sells billions of dollars worth of all types of merchandises. When he started, Bezos had no experience in book selling business, but he realized that books had an ideal shipping profile for online sales. He believed that many customers would be willing to buy books without inspecting them in person and that books could be impulse purchase items if properly promoted on a website. By accepting orders on its website, Bezos believed that Amazon.com could reduce transaction cost in the sale to the customer. More than 4 million book titles are in print at any one time throughout the world, and more than one million of those are in English. However, the largest physical bookstore cannot stock more than 2, 00,000 books and carries even fewer titles because bookstores stock more than one copy of each title. Having a wide selection was important because Bezos believed it would help create a network economic effect. People would visit Amazon.com whenever they wanted to buy a book because it would be the most likely store (physical or online) to have a particular title. After becoming satisfied customers, people would return to Amazon.com to buy more books and stop looking elsewhere. The structure of the supply side of the book business was equally important to Amazon.com’s success...
