...Analyzing a Major Issue Bullying Bullying is a major issue in your country today. Many people think to themselves what does bullying really mean. “Bullying is an unwanted aggressive behavior among school age children that involves a real perceived power imbalanced”. (Stop Bullying) Bullying happens all over our country and happens in many different places. Here are some examples of Bullying teasing, name calling, inappropriate sexual comments, taunting, and threating to cause harm. As you can see bullying has many different forms. Bullying does not have to be right in front of a person. People could be spreading rumors, bad-mouthing a person and that still considered bullying. Now a day with the technology children and teens are being bullied by the phone, texting, emailing and video recordings. Bullying does not only have to take place in our schools. It takes place with sport groups, youth groups and yes it does take place with our adults in the work place. Yes its true bullying does happen among adults also in the work force. It seems weird and wrong because we are all adults and should know better but it’s true it happens. Bullying is also taking place with our seniors in their groups, nursing homes and senior living facility’s. Being bullied has many effects on children and teens. ...Bullying is a Crime If the saying, “if sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never hurt me” was ever true, it sure isn't true today. Bullying in and out of schools is getting out of control. People are starting to worry if the suicide rate is increasing due to bullying. Children are not the only ones being bullied today; adults are also victims in the bullying epidemic. Statistics have shown that one third of teens are bullied at school and 4 percent also report that they were also victims of cyber bullying (Tangen and Campbell). Parents and teachers should take a stand against bullying to become a part in preventing it. Parents and teachers need to be a part of the solution, not the problem. Victims of bullying are caused much damage and some are scarred for life. Bullying should not be tolerated because it can cause emotional, physical, or social damage to a victim, which can lead to dangerous consequences. What we don’t realize is that there are limited laws and/or policies in place that stop bullying from happening. Legislation needs to be updated or changed to accommodate to new bullying tactics such as cyber bullying and the consequences need to be more severe to stop bullying from happening ever again. Bullying is widespread and perhaps the most underreported safety problem on American school campuses. Contrary to popular belief, bullying occurs more often during school hours than on the way to and from school. But what is bullying? To me bullying...

...23 Sept. 2013 Bullying When people hear the term bullying, they might remember when they were in school and saw or experience it personally. For most, the bullying happen between middle to high school, with some happening in college. And probably, the bullying wasn't too harsh and we simply think of it as some kind of tradition that most kids go through. But for others, bullying has blemish them for life or even produced woeful tragedies. For those victims and their families, bullying has cost them a great deal of pain, without nobody paying for their losses. Some feel like bullying is just rough teasing, others think that bullying should be classified as a form of harassment, and for those that have lost someone dear to them because of bullying are pushing for bullying to become a criminal offense. People are still trying to determined in what category bullying falls under and what is the fair way to deal with it. A lot of people are starting to acknowledge that something needs to be done and fast because bullying is affecting a lot of us, not just the victims anymore. But the question most are asking is; should bullying be consider a crime. A bully is someone that intimidates someone smaller and weaker than them, and sometimes uses physical force to get their victim to do something against their will. A bully can be a person with low personal self esteem and only feels like someone of interest when they bullying others. Some people think that a bully is a person that...

...over the world hear on a day to day basis. Bullying is a worldwide epidemic (Kalman) that kids from all ages have to deal with. There may be laws in place, but if you ask me they are not really doing their job. The laws may prohibit bullying, but they don’t address the problems that bullying causes such as suicide, mental problems, family problems, and school neglect. Studies say about 77% of student’s are bullied everyday weather it’s verbally or physically(Bullying Statistics), and about 14% of those students suffer from psychological problems(Bullying Statistics); like low self-esteem, depression, anxiety, and even suicide(Bullying Statistics). Each day 160,000 students miss school because they’re afraid of being bullied(Bullying Statistics), also 1 out of 10 high school students drop out of school because they were bullied(How to stop Bullying). Schools often say they want to decrease the dropout rate, well if they take the time to acknowledge the bullying problem some of the numbers would decrease.. Not only does bullying affect the body, but it affects the mind as well. In 2002 at least 15 school children from the ages 11 to 14 committed suicide (Jeff Lett), and in 2005 270 school children from the ages 10 to 14 committed suicide (Jeff Lett). Every day children go to school with a constant fear. School should be a safe lace not a place of torture. Many students find school as a safe get away from home, but with the constant bullying they go from one bad place to another. This...

...assignment, I will be researching two very important topics, bullying and the No Child Left Behind Act. I chose these two topics to write about as they are very close to my heart with having young kids in the school system. Our young kids deserve to have the best opportunities and to have all learning advantages that they can get. The no child left behind act defiantly helps to make sure every child is given a fair shake. Bullying in the school systems and elsewhere is something that the adults in the young kids lives need to make certain is being monitored and controlled. This is a very serious problem that can have a very negative impact to young kids. I beg the question as I research these two topics of are we doing enough? If there are measures currently in place are they doing all that they were designed to do? The truth that was found within research done by Educational Equity Concepts (EEC) was quite alarming! "A stunning (and probably stunned) 71% of teachers stay out of or ignore teasing and bullying of students, according to a recent study of elementary-school bullying and teasing by Educational Equity Concepts (EEC), a national nonprofit organization that promotes bias-free learning" (Schroeder, 1999). There are many training and developmental tools being introduced to both teachers and the students. These tools are teaching the children how to ward off the bullying and is teaching teachers how to detect it and put a stop to it. The independent variable within this article...

...Bullying Report BY: Sarah Adams Course: BSHS/325 Instructor: Lynn Hall In this paper we will talk about how bullying can affect human development and we will explain how gender and sexual orientation affects the way of bullying. We will also talk about the affect’s that bullying has on an individual’s self-esteem. We will discuss how family interaction may be affected by someone that is being bullied. After this paper you will have a better understanding as to how people bully and how it may affect individuals and ways that may help individuals that are being bullied stop bullies from continuously attacking them. Bullying is an issue in human development because of the way it affects the person that is being bullied. The bullies take control over the person by attacking someone they feel is weaker than they are and by continuously either verbally or physically abusing this individual. By the bullies doing this it can make a person feel like their life is not worth living and that they are not good enough to here. It makes individuals feel like they did something wrong because they do not know why these people are bullying them. Being bullied can interfere with the human development by making people not socialize, being withdrawn from family, seeking out negative attention. When a person is being bullied they need to find a positive source they can trust and that they are able to talk to in order to get the...

...Rachel Luna Eng 102 Schroeder 01/11/2015 Bullying in School The problem is that bullying in school has been a major issue for many of years. A lot of times the bullying goes unnoticed until something tragic happens. Bullying can sometimes cause lifelong consequences or even lead to death in some situations. When bullying is happening in school we need to make the kids aware that they are not alone and that there is always somebody that they can talk to about the situation. If the children are afraid of the bullying they may not talk to an adult or say anything until it is too late. There are many ways that we can try to stop bullying in the schools but we also need to make sure that we speak with our children about bullying in order to help prevent and protect the kids who are being bullied. Bullying should never end somebody’s life. In school bullying happens every day and most of the time it continues long term without anybody noticing or the person being bullied even telling anybody. Sometimes there are signs of bullying which us as parents and educators should be aware of. These signs could include skipping school, personal items are damaged or missing, child doesn’t want to go to school, eating habits change, appears sad, angry, anxious, or even depressed, or even significant drop in the child’s grades. Sometimes the child may even try to harm them self in ways that we may not know. These harmful ways could include cutting themselves, taking unnecessary pills...

...Speech Class 11/19/2014 Bullying: Real Harm Deserves Real Consequences During the school year, children go off to school to get an education. Unfortunately for some, getting a good education can feel almost impossible. Imagine a child not wanting to go to school because they are afraid to. Imagine the child’s grades dropping because they cannot concentrate. Most would agree that they would want to do everything they can for their children to be comfortable going to school and feeling safe. The ongoing and growing problem that is causing such disturbance is bullying. Bullying is a social interaction where a more dominant individual, who is the bully, exhibits aggressive behavior that is intended to, and does, in fact, cause distress to a less dominant individual which is the victim. The aggressive behavior can be direct physical contact and/or a verbal attack that can be direct or indirect (Bullying). Bullying includes harassment, intimidation to varying degrees, taunting and ridicule (Ferrell-Smith). About 50% of high school students said they have bullied someone in the past year. Forty seven percent said they had been bullied, teased or taunted in a way that seriously upset them in the past year. Nearly 40% of bullied girls and 46% of bullied boys in grades 3 through 12 have been bullied a year or longer, yet fewer than 50% of bullied students have told a parent (Billitteri). Many students that are being bullied are suffering silently. Because bullying can have harmful and sometimes...

...Why do you think it’s okay to make someone hate coming to school? Or is it because you haven't put much thought into it at all. Have you ever thought about the consequences that your actions have? It baffles me that some of you can come to school everyday, talk about people behind their back, and then just go on with your life. You have no clue about the stuff they have going on at home. That kid you laughed at today in class for saying the wrong answer, considered killing themselves because even when they go home, their parents make fun of them. Or that kid, that stutters when they read doesn’t talk much outside of class because they saw you give your friend a smirk. Does it make you feel good? I’m standing up here reading this and you might be thinking “oh my gosh, she needs to calm down”. I have been on the end...

...Stopping Bullying Jessica Messer DeVry University Stopping Bullying Rachael, a seventeen year old high school student from Kentucky just wanted a regular high school experience just like everyone else gets. She wanted to be able to go to classes, dances, and the prom without having to look over her shoulder for someone stalking her and might even be trying to kill her. The great high school experience did not happen for her because she started getting harassing and threatening e-mails on her MySpace account. The e-mails consist of her activities during school hours and after school so she knew it was someone at her school. Her parents went to the principal with the problem, but the school did nothing about it. She received an e-mail stating, “I am not going to put you in the hospital; I am going to put you in the morgue.” After receiving this e-mail she committed suicide on October 9, 2006. Many of the children that take their own lives have bullies that don’t understand that their “words hurt”. (Neblett, 2010). Rachael was not the only life that was lost in that year. She had two friends Kristin Settles, (Settles, 2010) and Karissa Smith, (Smith, 2010) that took their own lives after Rachael did. The three teens all went to the same high school and was known as “The Three Musketeers.” Bullying has caused this community so much heart ache and pain that we as human beings need to step in and try to stop another child from making a choice that can never...

...research problem. This stage can be considered the most difficult to understand. “A useful way to approach the research process is to state the basic dilemma that prompts the research and then try to develop other questions by progressively breaking down the original questions into more specific ones” (Cooper, D. & Schindler, P., 2011). We are going to take a look at bullying in our school systems, and no child left behind act. Children are the future, and we as leaders, mentors, and parents need to take better action to ensure the safety and well-being of our children. I would like to know if there is enough being done to ensure a future for our children. Are parent’s doing enough, and do they have the knowledge about this epidemic? What laws are in place, and what is being done to enforce those laws? Are we educating our children on bullying, and how serious this is? Most importantly, what can we individually do to stop this from happening? “ A stunning (and probably stunned) 71% of teachers stay out of or ignore teasing and bullying of students, according to a recent study of elementary-school bullying and teasing by Educational Equity Concepts (EEC), a national nonprofit organization that promotes bias-free learning” (Schroeder, 1999). I personally am appalled by this. Parents are expected to entrust teachers with their children’s welfare. Teachers must become more proactive, and get involved immediately. I believe there should be mandatory training that teachers must...

...May 2017 Bullying How many suicides will occur today? The answer is 13. All 13 of these deaths are a result of bullying, and in a year 4,400 people will have done the same thing. The outcomes of bullying are endless, just as well the impacts it has on the people that encounter it. And the only way to stop bullying is to understand it. To understand the different ways of bullying. To understand how each way may impact a person. And most importantly, to understand how to stop it for good. Bullying, should be illegal in all aspects, and should be prosecuted. Bullying started many years ago as a way to assert dominance in a community. Also, it can sometimes be used to preserve civil power, and to make sure that...

...Abstract Every day bullying incidents occur and most are ignored by parents, teachers, students, and our judicial system, when they all could be prevented. No one takes the time to stop, listen and address bullying and make them serve some type of punishment when this occurs. Most wait until it’s too late and many are threatened, injured, or even killed in schools, on buses, or in society in general. Throughout this paper, I will explain several types of incidents that have occurred and were ignored and how they were over looked by a higher authority. I will also include some ideas on how we can take further action into preventing tragedies from occurring if possible. Schools and court systems may say that they have a no tolerance level for bullying, but if you stop and think for a second, why do our children and adults still get bullied and it is often much easier for teachers and judicial systems to look the other way than to put a stop to it before it gets out of hand. Title: Bullying Can Occur At Any Age and Is Often Ignored When we hear the word “bully” we automatically think back to when we were school age children and have either been a victim of bullying or been a bully. The truth is that at one point or another we have all witnessed or experienced some form of bullying. Whether it have been committed at school, home, or in our communities, it is by far a pleasurable experience and can make a life changing impact on our lives. Today bullying is too often portrayed...

...tries to get the school to do something. Finally, on Jan. 14, after a day when she was allegedly harassed in the library, in the hallways and on her way home from school--a canned drink thrown at her, and the words "You Irish slut, you Irish whore". Phoebe Prince went home, picked out a scarf her sister had given her for Christmas and hung herself in a stairwell. Her sister found her. The mean girls? They logged on and mocked her death.” (Gibbs, 2012) She is only one in many victims that could have been saved. “By words alone perpetrators of bullycide kill their victims without laying a hand on them.” (Wallace 2011) These girls should have been held responsible for their actions, yet they were not. Everyday many adolescents are being bullied to extreme measures, pushed to the verge of death, in most cases, by suicide. And just like the young Phoebe, nothing was done to help them. Is this the life we want our children to suffer through? Clearly no, but what’s the answer. Surely there has to be a way to stop this abominable act. It is clear that those who partake in bullying should be prosecuted for their incredulous actions. Bullying is a major contributing factor in actions of suicide and self-harm. Many studies show “Bullying victimization was significantly and positively associated with self-harm and suicidal ideation.”( Hay, Meldrum 2010) Victims of bullying are harming themselves to the point where they are hospitalized and are forced to miss school. This all because...
