The time is 8:45am. I am just starting this assignment that was tasked to the class a week ago. I do not have any valid excuses for my procrastination. Unless I can get away with the “I was distracted by technology” excuse. The technology has made it difficult to accomplish “intellectual tasks” on my one day off from work or school. I guess in a way technology has made me dumber. However, I'm not sure if technology has made us dumber. I watched the PBS debate titled Is Technology Making Us Smarter or Dumber?. I feel like team dumber made a couple great points on technology making us dumber. For example, they mentioned how Google caters it's search responses to what we have already searched. Google tells us what we want to hear. The bad thing is that because Google does this we can not open up our world views as easily. They argued that most people take what they see on the internet at face value and don't bother to see any deeper. They are basically saying that we are too lazy to research and don't bother to search beyond the first page of Google search results. Team dumber mentioned the GPS. One of the members mentioned how we rely…show more content… I'll admit this paper is half-assed. I am a smart idiot. I believe technology has made me smarter because I have learned a few skills from the internet. I learned how to drive a car by watching Youtube videos by “borrowing” my father's 1990 Honda. I got my license just 2 weeks after I started watching the videos. After I bought my own $500 Honda (2000), “Mr Check Engine” I had to learn how to check the oil and how to jump start that crappy battery. That car has given me so many problems. Last year it broke down in the Wright College parking lot. The internet (+kudos to my father) saved me from having to waste money on a tow truck and I managed to start the car and drive it home. The internet has made me a “jack of all trades”. Unfortunately, I do have to agree with that famous quote and say I'm a master of
