Insurance for the elderly is the first issue I thought of when thinking about my Career Internship and Community Service. A majority of the patients at my internship site are older individuals and every resident at my service site is over 50. If anyone deserves proper insurance it is the elderly. They are the ones who have built a solid foundation for the youth to build upon. In the latter years of their life and they deserve to be treated with the utmost respect and care. For too many years the trend of giving the elderly the scraps. Children are growing up and are starting to forget who provided them with support and love coming up. Medicare doesn’t relay the same type of long term care that Medicaid does. However , those who have the best Medicaid can offer have poured a lot of time and money into it , to ensure their future financial status and to remain in good health. Insurance only works when the individuals receiving it actually pay the money required to keep it going. With insurance being such a hassle to maintain just for those who have it , imagine those who don’t have it. If Medicare began at age 50 , the amount of money that’d have to be invested into Medicare would be vast. The government spent roughly $492 billion dollars on Medicare alone in 2013.(The Facts on Medicare Spending And Financing ). Adding citizens between the ages of 50-64 to the Medicare payroll would more than double those $492 billion .("The Facts on Medicare Spending And Financing.")The government is still attempting to dig its way out of the 2008 depression. The invest so much more money into Medicare would put the U.S. into unnecessary debt. Though it is true that adding those of the ages 50-64 would add a significant amount to the U.S. ‘s already high wage bill , however its necessary . More and more individuals are forced to work past the age they’d like to retire due to the economy we live in. If Medicare was given to those individuals between 50-64 , it’d ensure the stability of millions of families throughout the U.S. . The government's job is to keep the people of the U.S. happy and adding these additional ages to Medicare will make this
