Laryngectomy according to ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association) is “the removal of the voice box (larynx) from the neck, usually because of cancer”. Throat cancer may occur by “heavy smoking and drinking, poor eating habits-not enough vitamins from fruits and vegetables, weakened immune system, exposure to chemicals and acid reflux” (ASHA, 2015).
A Laryngectomy causes different impacts in the person that goes through this procedure. And influences one’s person life in family, social, career, financial among others contexts.
