Abstract
For the last decade there has been a drastic increase in the debate over gun control. A Constitutional right set forth by our forefathers is now seemingly being laid to rest by the leaders of our country. However, as a modern Democratic society the people of our nation are refusing to go down without a fight. By evaluating and analyzing recent gun control policies and the reaction of such policies by the general public, supported by a graphical representation of my theory, I will argue that through recent policy that the increase in the limiting of sale of firearms and ammunition and the attempted disarming of the American public has endangered the law abiding citizens of this country instead of saving them as many would have us believe. I hypothesize that with stricter …show more content…
government has sought to uphold the rights that the framers of this great country set for us. The Bill of Rights, which are the first ten amendments to the Constitution, are those that have been provided to the people as right that are “inalienable” or those that cannot be taken away by any government power in judicial or other proceedings. The Second Amendment, adopted in 1791, in that aforementioned bill is the Right to Bear Arms, which states, “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” (Second Amendment- Bearing Arms, 2014) With such a short document governing our gun and militia rights, one wouldn’t expect much controversy or debate over the true intentions of the nation's forefathers. This debate has culminated in two drastically opposing views about gun control and how it should be implemented within our society. Citizens and politicians alike argue tirelessly over each point of disagreement, seemingly sliding down the slippery slope that is gun

Gun Control Argumentative Essay

...The debate surrounding gun control is one that can be very emotional and is often fueled by anger. This makes it an argument that is hard to balance if that emotion isn’t utilized effectively. In her piece “Get a Knife, Get a Dog, but Get Rid of Guns” columnist Molly Ivins fails to properly utilize emotion in a way that gets the reader on her side. In the article “The Progressive Gun-Control Charade” law professor and author Nicholas Johnson stays level-headed which, ultimately, works to his advantage in making him more agreeable. Both writers manage to add something to the discussion; however, Johnson argues his case just a bit better. Ivins’ clearly states her case: get rid of guns – all of them. While her unwavering conviction condemning the usage of guns entirely can be considered admirable, her overpowering anger works against her. She puts herself on one side of the extreme in such an aggressive way it alienates herself from being understood by the other...

...Critical Control 5 dead 8 hurt and many scarred for life, Esteban Santiago the man responsible for the shooting in Fort Lauderdale airport. He carried out the shooting with a walther 9mm pistol and two clips, People say that it was the scariest moment of their lives and they will always remember that day no matter how hard they try to forget. Many people are asking how did Esteban get a gun into the airport? Around the United states they are beliefs that there should not be as much gun control as it is, and there should not be much of a hassle to get firearms. While on the other hand people believe that more gun control in the united states is needed, that more should be done to stop people that have firearms that should not have them. I feel that more requirements to purchase a weapon is a major issue that needs to be looked at in the united states. Some people think that there should be less requirements to purchase and own a gun because the more guns the better, They also feel as if the guns are more protection and make them feel safer. This is not a wrong thing to believe or a wrong way to feel because from the years 2003-2007 there were about 3.7 million burglaries in about 1 million of those a member of the household was present and 266,560 people became a victim of a violent crime....

Many studies show that if guns are more difficult to get ahold of, than the murder rate will decrease. According to “Gun Control: An Overview,” it reports “Over 30,000 are killed every year by guns.”--So if the government make stricter laws, this would cause a chain reaction, and lead to the decrease of fatalities due to guns. If people that are considered threatening can not get ahold of guns because of the input of stronger gun control laws, these deaths will lessen. More security and...

Argumentative Essay On Gun Control

...One of the largest topics that are being discussed in the United States is the topic of gun control. Most will demand that guns are the problem, while others will argue that it is not a gun problem but rather a people problem. The ones who argue that guns are the problem want to either rule out guns completely or have more regulations. The citizens who are against gun control will contradict that argument by saying that guns are a right; that it is part of the second amendment. They will also state that guns are for protection. The question then becomes what one is the right one? I believe that guns are not the problem, but that the people themselves are the issue. In agreement with the statement made from Shiah Dalmia where she states, “How about focusing less on preemptively thwarting prospective attackers and instead...

...ability to own and use guns. The people of America have used guns to protect the rights of the United States since the the beginning of the country. The citizen’s right to guns has always existed, there is no way around it. This argument has been going on for some time and is growing out of proportion. While the past shows how harmful guns can be to the human race the citizens of the United States should be allowed to harbor and use guns. It is a basic right that is stated in the United States’ own Constitution’s Amendments. We as a country have a right to bear arms, it says so in the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution. People are afraid because most of the crimes here contain gun usage, but the laws will not stop them. As said by Tim Donnelly: “Criminals don’t abide by laws, period, that’s why they’re criminals, they’re outside of the law.” United States government continues to make laws against guns even though it has not stopped crime, it might not...

Gun Control Argumentative Essay

...Even with places that have strict gun laws, the majority of mass shooting happen in places that prohibit guns. I feel that for some people, owning a gun is a way of life, and I respect that, but some guns cross the line. Handguns, for example, is the tool that most gun homicides a committed by. This being, handguns aren’t good for the one thing that guns were made for, hunting. Hunting guns range from shotguns to one shot rifles and they were all made for killing big game, one shot rifles can pierce through deer and elk and shotguns take out birds easily but they’re not that good at killing people which is the reason why even the most restrictive gun areas allow them under certain circumstances. Hand guns, however, are not as efficient at taking out big game because the bullet size is too small but effective at killing people. It is small and can be concealed easily which makes it the main weapon for most police and, you guessed it, mass shooters. Banning this weapon and making semi-automatic weapons the main gun for police and firemen would quickly depreciate the number of mass shootings, if not banning all firearms...

Argumentative Essay-Gun Control Is Out Of Control

...Gun Control is Out of Control Of the many discourse communities that exist, I am a part of one of the more controversial communities. There is a constant call for congress to pass laws restricting my rights within my DC, rights that were granted in the constitution. I am a firearms enthusiast, and have been shooting since I was young. There are millions of shooters in the United States, and they are far outnumbered by the number of firearms in the US alone. Most are respectable gun owners who follow every law regarding gun ownership, yet there are those who aim to take away our rights based on fear. There has consistently been a huge amount of gun ownership since the country was originally founded, yet there is an ever increasing opposition. Recently there have been more mass shootings, which has prompted those on the Democrat side of the political spectrum to call for unreasonable bans and restrictions. Even as previous bans expire, and...

Argumentative Essay: Gun Control In Schools

...As an American citizen in high school, I believe the popular topic of gun control in schools is most relevant to me at the moment. There have been OVER 300 school related shootings since 2013—an average of about one a week. As a student who has never been put in the position of having to protect oneself from an active shooter, I believe teachers should not have guns. Michael Drayton (1596) created a wise saying: “add fuel to the fire” this is still relevant today. By allowing teachers to have guns it is adding fuel to a fire, meaning it can only make a situation worse. If teachers are allowed to have guns in the classroom, students may be afraid to go to class, may feel uncomfortable knowing there is a weapon in the classroom. It also can...

Argumentative Essay: Is Gun Control Bad?

...Is gun control bad? “Countries with higher gun ownership have lower murder rates.”(Harvard 1) There are two sides to the debate, people against gun control and people for gun control. It is a big issue because there are so many people for and against guns. There are 318 million people in the United States and 270 million use guns. While there are reasons for higher gun control, there are just as many against it also. “In some early states people were required to own guns,”(Krull 80) so why are people trying to take away them now. The problem has been around for a long time but it started with racism against African americans. In 1837 Georgia passed a law banning guns but it was decided that it was unconstitutional really quickly. In 1968 a gun control act was passed to keep firearms out of the hands of people who were not...

Argumentative Essay: The Need For Gun Control

...Gun Control What is gun control? Gun control is a federal act that was created back in 1968. Gun control laws must be stricter, lowering crime rates and deaths. If you haven’t heard many of us Americans are known to be very blunt, and short tempered. So for a minute, just imagine a short-tempered person with a lot of anger, and they are loaded with a gun, and around you. David B. Kopel says something similar to what I had just explained. “American Citizens are too clumsy and ill-tempered to be trusted with weapons”. These are not people whom I’d trust with weapons around the country. Citizens owning guns calls for trouble like in the second quote. Evidence shows the outcome of guns,...

Argumentative Essay: Gun Control In America

...Gun Control in America Gun Control in America has led to many deaths nationwide. Every day we lose thousands of people lives that have been killed by guns. This whole gun control system that we have today in america has not seem to decrease the violence but increase it, since many criminals find a way to get a hold of a firearm. The gun violence we are having is created because of the lack of politics being careless for their people's safety, by the regulations on gun control, and how criminals have access to guns. The law was introduced back in 1934 when the federal government started its gun control policies in order to stop gang violence which was called the National Firearms Act of 1934. Ever since then it has not helped stop the violence and it seems that the issue has grown over the years and it is now a major problem. When the issue really struct the people was when there was school shootings, which really impacts america by making the school safety a failure since criminals enter heavily armed to a school campus. One major school shooting was “two high school teens Eric Harris, 18 and Dylan Klebolod, 17 had killed 13 people and wounded 20 more before commiting suicide on April 20, 1999 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colorado” (History.com staff). The crime was...

Argumentative Essay: Gun Control In America

...School security wasn’t the only thing that raised controversy after the killings, many broader topics in general society was brought up as well. Gun control was the largest culprit in this scenario and for good reason. Society is driven by fear; afraid of others and what one might do if a weapon is in the wrong hands. It is unbelievable how simple it is to obtain a semi-automatic gun in America. Anyone who was of the required age could register for a gun license and purchase a weapon – many not even required to background check the applicant. Fugitives, felons and other criminals have easy access to weapons and increase the risk of a similar event. Even if they don’t get permission to obtain a gun, family and friends will like be in possession of a firearm. Both...
