Mexican-American War
As the Americans continued to move west to occupy and control more lands they did it at the expense of other races. The Americans believed in their superiority to the Native Americans and this attitude also applied to Anglo-Americans. The Americans believed in their manifest destiny which stated that “God’s divine plan for the United States was to extend its domain across the North American continent” (2). Even though the boarder treaty of 1828 acknowledged Mexico’s sovereignty over the territory, it would not be long once American settlers occupied Mexico that they felt they had a right to the land. This new territory would also have the north and south fighting for the power…show more content… There were squadrons by the sea on both coasts, by land and forces advancing by northern frontiers. “The vehement desire of the government of the United States, to extend its already immense territory at the expense of that of Mexico, it has been manifest for many years; this has been their firm and consistent determination” (11). Mexico’s minister stated that if war should occur it will rest upon the United States because they had started the violence and fraud by violating the treaty limits. Mexico allowed American citizens to colonize in Texas and as a result the United States encouraged immigration for the purpose of claiming the country as their own. Americans could have believed the war was initiated by Mexico. The Americans viewpoint of the Mexican-American War was that they felt it was their mission to spread the democratic institution and freedom. The expansion also presented individual advancement in economic growth for the United States. The United States was experiencing a growth in the population and immigration and needed the new territories for this population growth. There was an urgency on behalf of the Americans to not allow Britain or France gain any territory in northern America. For Americans there was pressure to expand the U.S
