How many times have you heard the Pit Bull being negatively talked about? How many times have these negative comments been backed up with facts? If researched, anybody can see that the Pit Bull is not a bad dog. Actually, it is said and proved that it was and still is an exceptionally good dog. For example, “pit bulls are the second most tolerant breed tested by ATTS, after only golden retrievers.” (Joshua Holland) Pit Bulls should still be looked upon positively because they were very famous and well known dogs before the mid 1980s and they also are an excellent choice for a family pet.
The Pit Bull is not entirely at fault for the reputation that it has. Because of their tough appearance, these dogs are the top choice for “irresponsible breeders, dog-fighters, people who want a tough looking to tie up in their yard and those who refuse to have their male dogs fixed because they think those big, swinging balls make them look tough by proxy.” (Joshua Holland) These dogs are loyal and loving pets who have just been dragged into a negative crowd. For hundreds of years they were considered the perfect dog. It was the dog thought of when war was talked about or mentioned. “During World War I, the country itself is personified as a pit bull on army recruitment posters, and several pit bulls go on to become famous in the American military.” (Jon Bastian) For around 400 years they were used as war dogs. They were very loyal and protective which made them perfect dogs to bring to battle and to stand by a soldier. “In times of war, they marched off to battle with their humans.” (Jon Bastian) They were very courageous dogs who would stand their ground when on the battlefield. They stood by their masters throughout the war and would never fall back because they got
