The book Stargirl, written by Jerry Spinelli is written in the point of view of a teenager named Leo Borlock. Leo’s school, Mica High, acquired a new student named Stargirl Caraway. Stargirl came into the school and no one knew about her. Soon after her arrival, Stargirl became the most popular girl in school. Her antics as a cheerleader were absurd. Stargirl was known for cheering for the opposing team. In response to her actions, Stargirl’s fellow students called her names, ignored her, and insulted her. Ignoring is a very rude thing to do. If someone is ignored by another person, this means the other person does not like them and wants to hurt someone else’s feeling. When Leo and Stargirl were walking in the hallway, they were ignored. “No one spoke to us. No one nodded to us. No one smiled at us. No one looked at us.” In conclusion, Stargirl was mistreated by her fellow students because of how she was ignored. Stargirl was not treated fairly by the student body. If she was treated nicely by her peers, she would not be ignored, be called names, or be brutally insulted. The way Stargirl’s classmates treated her was not kind or appropriate. If someone treated someone else like that at any other school, they would get in serious trouble. This is why the student body did not treat Stargirl in an appropriate manner.
