Syrian Refugees A controversy in the news that has sparked my interest lately are the Syrian refugees that are being admitted into the United States as well other countries. Throughout the internet posts, news channels, and strong differing views, I noticed I developed many opinions about the situation, and not positive one’s to say the least. I admit that some of my sympathy lacks for the refugees, due to the fact that I usually associate them with the terrible tragedies Isis has caused. Although the refugees need help, isn’t it an extreme risk bringing them into other countries? My biggest concern is America’s safety. After an intense, emotional, eye opening interview with our immigrant from Libya, I was forced to take a step back and recognize that maybe these individuals are just trying to find a better way of life, like Reem. The article points out that the governors of these states are Republican. The Council of Islamic Relations believe that if these states deny the refugees, it will only show how fearful we are of the world. It also mentions that even though certain states do not plan on accepting them, the federal government will still end up taking control. Not only do I believe the author of this article was a Democrat, but I feel like his reasoning behind mentioning Republicans was to attract more of an audience who also have different views with the Republican candidates and supporters. In my opinion, these states are continuing to demonstrate their dominant authority by refusing to let these refugees in, labeling them as a minority. Not only do these refugees fit into the Blauner Hypothesis, but they fall under both types of minority groups, colonized and immigrant.
