Nuclear energy has been a controversial topic for its ability to produce more energy than any other resources available or the fear of an accident that might occur in the facility. The world’s first nuclear power plant was built in the city of Obinsk, Russia. “1954: The world's first nuclear power plant becomes operational in Obninsk, outside of Moscow” (Long). According to Tony Long, the nuclear power plant was designed to generate electricity for the city of Moscow. Over the years, the demand for electricity is increasing due to the advancement of technology. The advancements of technology have made most countries resort to a more efficient energy source that can match their countries needs for electrical consumption. Society now strives for a cleaner energy source as global warming issues are arising because of the harmful emissions that industries and automobiles release into the atmosphere which causes the depletion of the ozone layer. Air pollution affects everyone negatively due to the increase of natural resources such as coal, oil, and natural gas. Nuclear energy should be used as an energy source because it is an abundant source for energy, it is a cleaner source of energy, and it is economical beneficial. Nuclear energy comes from the source, uranium which is abundant compared to other natural resources that is found on Earth. “The underground resource at a depth of up to one kilometre equated to about 680-billion tons, which could provide the world with nuclear fuel for up to 1.6-million years” (Bruyn). The world had enough uranium reserves to sustain its nuclear fuel requirements for the foreseeable future with the amount that is supplied. According to “The Encyclopedia of Earth,” the Earth’s crust contains about 2.7 mg/kg of uranium and the ocean contains about 3.2x10^-3 mg/L of uranium. The abundance of uranium is clearly enough to last for about a

English 102 Class Reflection

...Realizing the need for being versatile in my writing was the first step in this process. The essay entitled “A Perfectly Imperfect Decision,” an argumentative essay, became the bases for learning to support my opinion with aspects from a novel. This became especially challenging in terms of trying to analytically defend and justify the decision of one of the main characters, despite the surface level analyses that the character was “wrong” for her decision. Developing a personal position that was rooted and supported by evidence from the text also helped to strengthen my ability to discern the appropriate voice needed in an argumentative essay. Argumentative essays should not only include a position on the topic, but it should also use emotional and logical appeals directed toward countering the opposing argument. Since originally submitting the paper I’ve made stylistic revisions including, not posing rhetorical questions that I leave unanswered which suggest a different style of writing such as a magazine or something less formal than an academic...

I also need to work on concentrating so that I don’t have to work late. A writer always has room to grow. While one may be excellent in some parts of writing, they’re not the best at everything. English 111 Reflection

...An example of a big improvement was my rhetorical essay for The American Dream. My first attempt was not good at all, since I summarized it instead of doing what I was supposed to do. I received a seventy-five on it and, in contrast, I got a ninety-five on my second attempt. To get there, I went to the writing center twice, and redid my outline for which I got advice from Dr. Kennedy on how to improve it. Using the outline made the MEAL plan easier for me whenever I typed my body paragraphs. Unfortunately, my work schedule did not allow me to visit the writing center for my argumentative essay, but meeting with Dr. Kennedy who gave me constructive criticism helped me write a better essay. I also used the PaperRater to check for errors in my paper, and I plan on using it for this one also.
