“Change is a either a good or bad thing; use it for good,” Is what Ms. Arletta Chambers constantly says to me. I believe this how Ms. Chambers lives her life, and she does so very well. Being the youngest of five, she had some of the responsibilities of many children. She had to obey her older siblings and parents. She had to do her chores and stay on top of her schoolwork. A case she found most troubling was a ten-year-old boy misdiagnosed and medicated improperly who was unable to live a normal life. He has psychosis, however, he was diagnosed with ADHD. She works with any race of clients because they are a part of an underserved population in the field of mental illness. Personally, Arletta has faced racism in social with one case in particular. A client referred to her and other staff members as “black bitches.” The client refused to work with black staff and only wanted to work with white staff.
Arletta Chambers dedicates her life to her social work because she understands the significance of mental health. She is a democrat who fights for mental health awareness in disadvantaged and underrepresented communities. Ms. Chambers feels President Obama has helped improve the status of mental health in Louisiana.
