...The Physics of a Bow and Arrow A bow and arrow operates on certain principle of physics. I will be investigating what factors affect the accuracy of a bow and arrow. Figure 1 - The change in the shape of the bow as the archer draws it. Figure 1 - The change in the shape of the bow as the archer draws it. A bow is a basic machine called a “two-arm spring”. Energy is stored when the archer bends the bow. It may look like the string is being stretched, however, it is not stretched but the shape of the bow is changed. The stored energy is then transferred to the arrow in the form of kinetic energy. The greater the draw length, the greater the momentum and energy that the arrow gains. A longer draw length will influence your accuracy. You, as an individual, need to find the draw length that you are most comfortable with. With your own unique draw length you need to have an anchor point. This point is the place where your hand will be every time you shoot an arrow. This will greatly improve the accuracy of the shot. Figure 2 - Correct form to shoot an arrow Figure 2 - Correct form to shoot an arrow In archery your form is very important. If you do not have the correct form then you will not be able to shoot properly and you might hurt yourself. In Figure 2 (left) we can see the correct form when shooting an arrow. Old military snipers used a technique they called B.R.A.S. Breathe. If you are do not breathe then you will not be able to focus clearly on where you are...

...Trajectory of a Bow and Arrow Bows and arrows have a great deal of variance to them. From the type of bow you use, the material, the bowstring, the wind, and where you’re shooting from, many different things could happen. Cool guy is in an archery competition and he is about to take his first shot. Cool guy releases the arrow from a height of 3 feet and it hits its highest point (5 feet) when the arrow is 50 feet from where it was released. The target is 120 feet away and the center of the bulls eye is exactly 3 feet above the ground, and 4 inches in diameter. Assuming that Cool guy shoots a perfectly straight shot, will he hit a bulls eye? We need to use the vertex form of the equation y = a(x – h)^2 + k To find the vertical height of the arrow as it approaches the target. Since the arrow has a maximum height of 5feet when it has traveled 50 feet toward the target, we know that the vertex is at (50, 5). Substituting this into the equation, we get: y = a(x – 50)^2 + 5 To find the stretching factor, a, we need to plug in a point other than the vertex. Since the arrow was initially launched at a height of 3 feet, the parabola goes through the point (0,3). Replacing x and y in the equation, we get:3 = a(0 – 50)^2 + 53 = 2500a + 5-2 = 2500aa = -0.0008 This gives a final equation of y = -0.0008(x – 50)^2 + 5We can find the height of the arrow when it hits the target by plugging in 120 feet in for x.y = -0.0008(120 – 50)^2 + 5y = 4.888 feet The bulls...

...Geoffrey Smith, 2/15/13 Seven -year-old Aryanna Schneeberg was innocently playing outside her home on May 20th, 2012. She was playing with her sister and a friend when suddenly she was struck with an arrow. “The arrow entered her back, puncturing her lung, her stomach, diaphragm and liver”(Roberts, 2012). This is a scary scenario for everyone involved and it happens in yards across America every year. Crossbows near schools and hospitals are not beneficial, because of accidental shootings, the users can get hurt, and it could traumatize children. First, a 16-year-old was arrested in June for accidentally shooting Aryanna with an arrow. He know that it was against the law to shoot his bow in the city, but he was shooting at a squirrel. Circuit Court Judge Dale English decided that the teen could be tried as an adult. This accident happened in Campbellsport, Wisconsin on May 20th 2012 (Roberts, 2012). A 23-year-old man was arrested for shooting an arrow into a house." The arrow just missed Erica Russell's daughter”(Year, 2010). Police arrested Philip Niccloy for reckless endangerment and criminal mischief. A 24-year-old man was found unconscious with a crossbow bolt penetrating his head. It is believed to have been an accident"(Cleary, 1990, p.224). The arrow was removed by the patient's brother. The patient was transferred to the neurosurgical unit at Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield. He had a computed tomographic or (CT) scan done which showed the entry...

...BowFishing Equipment The sport of bowfishing has, perhaps, evolved more rapidly during the past few decades than any other sport that has existed for that long a period of time. A few decades back, ordinary bows were used for this sport, and regular arrows were fitted with lines for fish retrieval. Needless to say, this put bowfishermen at some risk of injury or even, occasionally, death from arrow snapback as the line became tangled in the bowstring. Most bowfishing was carried out from shore, and there was little specialized equipment for the bowfisherman to use. Huge changes have come over the sport of bowfishing, however, largely because of immense and useful advances in the gear and equipment that can be used during the course of the hunt. The use of boats and fishing platforms have made bowfishing more engaging and exciting, with boat-based bowfishing being the most dynamic and interesting type for many fishermen....

...pursuing enemies as well as royal hunts in and enclosed arena, just like the One depicted in the hunting lion’s relief. Hunting of the lions was a sport reserved for kings. These hunts were symbolic of the ruling monarch’s duty to protect and fight for his people. The kings would often go lion hunting for political and religious purposes. If they were good at Hunting the Gods would favor them. The kings are often portrayed on the plains of Syria but there were no lions so, they had to ship them from Africa. To get a lion out of his cage a servant would lift the gate and start running. The hunting lions would then see the king and the servant and he would the charge them. The king would then ride his chariot with his bow and arrow or spear. In some of the figures I notice that he carries an empty bow, I determined that all the lions were wounded that lie about beneath and past the moving chariot and have been hit by Ashurbipal’s bow. Most hunts by everyday men usually take place in the wild, land of unpredictable outcomes And unknown beasts but a royal hunt would be contained. Containment would allow a controlled environment to ensure the kings safety and success. While hunting the companions would make the final kill, Ashunrbanipal who remains Strongest due to his position in the relief, the servants are pointed downwards in the Background with a stopped motion, as the king keeps his bow or spear up and facing the next lion. ...Archery Vs. Rifle Hunting For Beginners Ever thought about hunting to provide food for the family, but do not know what is the best method for a beginner? A lot of people are starting to hunt or are starting to teach their kids how to. Most beginner hunters do not know which method is the best for them, or the easier one for that matter, so this paper is intended to help with making that decision. By looking at the distance, sound and scent discipline, and the required skills, one will be able to determine if archery or rifle hunting is more practical for a beginner hunter. It is helpful to know the distance you will have to hunt from using both methods. A beginner archer could easily take down an animal anywhere from twenty to forty meters. A good, seasoned archer still doesn’t take shots further than fifty or sixty meters. How close you have to be is what makes archery hunting so difficult. It requires a lot more than just skill and accuracy. Now for a beginner hunter rifle hunting could easily take down a animal anywhere between twenty to one-hundred meters. Once they get seasoned and a lot of practice they should be able to take down an animal anywhere from twenty to three-hundred meters, sometimes even further. With rifle hunting you can be a lot further from the animal, and fifle hunting does not require much more than your skill and technique. Sound and scent discipline are needed in both methods of hunting, but one method requires more than the other. Since archery...

...lost all but on of his arrows on a hunt for food. One day Jordan was at a outdoor shooting range. Jordan practiced shooting at a orange painted hay bail that was in the trees. He was hitting the bulls eye with ease so he went on to a new target. Jordan’s next target was not as easy it was no longer a straight shot. He would have to figure a way to get a clear shot off threw all the trees. He got all set up he was ready to make his shot when a squirrel jumps on him and he fires his last arrow randomly into the trees. Jordan is upset that he has lost his last arrow and calls for help. A woman appears and says that she will help him look for his arrow. Jordan and the woman both set off in different directions in the trees to retrieve the arrow. Minutes later the woman returns to Jordan with a golden arrow and asks Jordan if it is his. Jordan replies honestly to the woman saying that it is not his lost arrow and it could be someone’s last arrow so he would feel bad for taking it. Jordan and the woman set off again to find the arrow. A short time later the woman returns again this time she is holding a silver arrow. The woman again asks Jordan if it is his arrow. Jordan replies honestly again saying that it is not his arrow. The two again set off in different directions in search for the lost arrow. Again the woman comes back with a arrow this time the arrow is plain and ordinary like any other normal arrow. The woman ask Jordan if the arrow belongs to him. Jordan...

...are crucial to ensuring the arrow will land center of the target. Because most archery tournaments take place in the outdoors to replicate the history of the sport, there are several independent variables that the archer cannot control. But to ensure that the archer can control all other manipulatable variables, it is crucial that they understand basic geometric angles along with a key formula to ensure that they will achieve the ultimate goal of the arrow reaching the ten-point ring. According to M. Schottenbauer,...

...and arrow that he wanted very much. He asked his dad “Please father can I have it, please.” His father repeatedly told him “NO”. Alex then threatened to run away where no one could find him, so his father gave in a bought him the bow and arrow. They finished their errands and headed back home. Queen Matilor warned Alex that he could only play with the bow and arrow outside where no one was around and only shoot at the target board. He had to wear his armor while outside at all times. Alex was in love with his new bow and arrow and he played outside all day, even breaking his mother’s rules and shooting at the harmless birds. As the sun went down, Queen Matilor called out for Alex to come in for supper. He begged, “just a little longer mother, please.” She replied, “No, You’ve been out all day long and it’s time for you to eat supper.” He groaned as he went upstairs to wash up. Waiting for everyone to fall asleep, Alex anxiously lied in his bed staring at his bow and arrow for the next opportunity to play with it. After an hour or so, Alex creped down the hall with his bow and arrow, to his parents room to see if they were sleeping. When the coast was clear, Alex pretended he was a warrior and shot at the Knight in armor across the hall. The arrow ricochets and hit Alex in the leg. In agonizing pain, Alex screams for help from his parents. His parents run out the room to see Alex with the arrow protruding from his leg. They rush to get the doctor to remove the arrow. During...

...represent his time, a hide coat, loincloth, bearskin cap, leggings, shoes, belt, pouch, axe, dagger, bow, quiver, arrows, backpack, net, containers and a first aid kit. Clothing like the hide coat, loin cloth, bearskin cap, leggings and shoes (the oldest kind in the world) represent Otzi’s good quality life, where Otzi was prepared, warm and had a vast knowledge of survival. Equipment like the copper bladed axe, a bow, quiver and arrow, backpack, net and first aid kit indicate Otzi’s handiwork, lifestyle and weapons ready for survival and conflict. About two feet long, the copper axe was made from a portion of the trunk of a yew tree, with the handle coming from the trunk, and the shaft came from the branch, and the copper blade fitted in by a leather binding, allowing maximum durability. The Iceman’s dagger and sheath (made by the inner bark of a lime tree) was around 5 inches long, with its flint blade resembling an arrowhead, connecting to the wooden handle. However, the handle was split when the blade was attached, so sinew was used to tie it securely together. The Iceman had carried a 1.82m long bow covered in blood, where it was created from the trunk of a yew tree. It’s adjoining quiver and arrows found nearby the discovery site. The quiver also included animal sinews, tree bast string, antler tip and stag antlers. Only 2 arrows were finished, and a dozen arrow shafts were...

...ARCHERY Sunnah Sport Centre has provides archery skill class since archery is one of the sports that encouraged in Islam. This sport is a sunnah as well. Archery is the art, practice, or skill of propelling arrows with the use of a bow, from Latin arcus. Historically, archery has been used for hunting and combat. A person who participates in archery is typically known as an "archer" or a "bowman", and one who is fond of or an expert at archery can be referred to as a toxophilite There is a quote about archery from Louis Lord Mountbatten which saying that, during the fourth world war, people will use archery instead of nuclear. Besides that, there are a sahih hadith about this sport. The Prophet once passed by some people of the tribe of Bani Aslam who were practicing archery. The Prophet said: “O Bani Isma`il ! Practice archery as your father Isma`il was a great archer. Keep on throwing arrows and I am with Bani so-and-so.” (Bukhari) For archery, we hired eight coaches who are expertise in archery. The community who learn this skill would be divided to four teams. Each team would have two coaches with them and have different locations. We concern about the efficiency in learning this skill, which is the reasons why we divide them to groups. There would be no separation among the learners based on their expertise. They will learn from the most fundamental steps till they will expert. There are schedule for the classes. There are two sessions for a day which is on weekend...
