...Lakesha London Professor: Dana Ferrea Class: Art Appreciation 1301 September 29, 2012 Cabinet Makers The painting and artists I am going to discuss is "The Cabinet Markers" by Jacob Lawrence (1957). In this portrait of Jacob Lawrence not only represent someone building cabinet this portrait represent many things that had took over a lifetime and especially in 50’s. The style of this portrait is systematic and Lawrence has a unique feel to the portrait. Jacob Lawrence was a witness to so much of American reconstruction and his artwork is rich with ideas that he had a firsthand insight on. He sets a style all of his own by using real life images in an abstract way; he uses brilliant colors and creative detail in his paintings. There is a lot of movement in his work with the change of the decades and his messages are clear. (Evergreen) This portrait can be very tricking it but when looking at art you have to have an open mind. The visual elements that someone might see are that Jacob Lawrence is painting a portrait of someone building something. In this portrait you will see nails like it’s in the guy pockets, but I think that it represent people who are on a ship that’s sailing away for freedom. The builder can also represent that he are a working class man and he are ready for a change. In the portrait you notice a lot of tools and if you think about it these tools are the same as today and that mean they haven’t change. The tool can represent that maybe some people...

...Tommy Skennion Professor Andreana Binder English 1301 20 July 2011 In Pursuit of Music What is music? Dictionary.com defines it as “an art of sound in time that expresses ideas and emotions in significant forms through the elements of rhythm, melody, harmony, and color.” Music is all around us each and every day. Whether it be a three note jingle on a television station, or to the tracks you listen to in your car. I believe music is an integral part of our lives and to the human experience. It crosses cultures, boundaries, and races; life, death and everything in between. The fact that music can be so powerful continues to inspire and motivate me to pursue a career in the field of music. We’ve all had times when you hear a song and it seems to invoke some kind of feeling or emotion inside of you. You may experience the feeling of “goose bumps” throughout your skin. The song playing might even take you back to another time. I’ve always found things like this intriguing about music. To be able to portray and convey, or even bring out any emotion; thru sound or music; is a pretty powerful thing. As in all art forms there is a sense of creation. Essentially creating something from nothing, in effect, keeps us coming back for more. From an artistic point of view, an art is a form of creation that allows the artist to express oneself freely. That is a gratifying experience in itself. One of the most profound things I find about music is that it has the ability to bring people...

Artists have some type of intention for their artwork. Artists have these intentions for calling objects that were not created by them to be considered works of art. The year that an artwork was created can tell a lot about the work. When trying to figure out the meaning behind an artwork, it makes viewers understand the way the work of art is arranged. While artists create works of art, in this paper it will cover Still Life of Flowers and Fruits by Jan Van...

...Intro to Mass Comm. Dr. Tameka Winston December 3, 2012 I am a new student at new higher learning institution which has changed my whole view and outlook this past semester. I was a student in Dr. Tameka Winston’s class where I actually felt like I had a teacher who cared about the students. I enjoyed the debates and class discussions we had in class. Along with gaining new knowledge new in the field I was introduced in to the world of mass communications on a college level. I also really learned a lot from Dr. Winston in the aspect of being a person. I am truly thankful for the experience that I encountered as an undergraduate in Winston’s class. This semester I became more knowledgeable on some the origins of mass media, music and radio and television. In chapter 2 I was able to understand the origins of many forms of media and who was credited with creating these forms of media. Gaining information like the Chinese actually invented the first form of a printing press. This printing press ways not innovated until a about 400 years later by a german named Johannes Gensfleisch zur Laden zum Gutenburg with his invention Gutenburg gave birth to modern media. Another avenue that was discussed was that the invention of photography and its development. The first of aspect of a camera was brought about in 300 B.C. by a mathematician named Euclid. Then around 1558 an early technique called camera obscura was introduced to the world and was widely renowned. As for music...

I think you will find that this medium is exactly what you need to demonstrate an interactive art time line on the website. European linear perspective art is amazing because of the use of light, shadows, placement, and lines which are used by the painter to tell a story for the viewer, this paintings are also known for drawing your eye to a focal point of a painting to help the story of the panting. ...Daryl Hanah D. del Prado COM3-1 Reaction Paper “Pinoy Blonde” ____________________________________________________________ __ 1. Synopsis: Cousins Andrew and Conrad Cunanan are film school dropouts. Their greatest debate is propelled by a single question: who is the greater filmmaker, Brocka or Bernal? They carry on discussing this point on their way to deliver a mysterious package that their Uncle Tong, who is in his deathbed, instructed them to exchange for a package at the Hotel Maricopa, a rickety old hotel inhabited by many shady characters. The real action begins when the two reach Hotel Maricopa. There they meet warring criminal factions played by Eddie Garcia and Jaime Fabregas, and many more cameo artists. 2. Genre: The genre of the Film “Pinoy Blonde” is Comedy. 3. How does the cameo role of the artist affect the movie? The Cameo role of the artist in the film made a really big impact especially to me because those artist already have a name in the industry and it’s just interesting and very entertaining to see all of them in one movie because there is a different approach of catching the viewers attention because while watching the film it feels different to see those well known artist in different roles where most of them just had short scenes. 4. How the cartoons/graphics affect the movie? The cartoons/graphics in the movie gave an artistic way of showing the scenes. It was unique and interesting for...

Exchange Drama Exchange Audio Exchange Words is envisaged as a monthly spoken word showcase. Exchange Focus – Focus is envisaged as a collective photography working group. It will act as a forum for York photographers to meet, share techniques and collaborate on projects. Exchange melody – Babies, kids and teenagers unite! Fancy learning the bongos? Maybe ballet or mime…how about finger painting?! York has few creative groups for kids of all ages, none of which happen to be free and encompass all the arts. “Exchange York” is both a statement of intent and an invitation to the city. Exchange York is envisaged as a collective arts centre in York run entirely by young people and holding discussions, gigs, visual arts and performance. Most projects are intended to organically develop through the autonomous “Exchange Groups” that will use the space as a hub for their activity. Representatives from these groups will form the general Exchange York Collective that will devise programmes and coordinate events in the space. All work is intended to be voluntary and no one is paid....

...started from a mother and father, a family can be teammates, fans of a specific team, people that share a common interest, or any other way of collecting people into groups known as families. In the art gallery there are a variety of ways that family is represented but there were two pieces that grabbed my attention. The first piece of art that represented family to me was by the artist Stefan Abrams. The artwork was named Dopplegangers and it was composed of seven photographs stacked on top of one another which were about two feet in width and nine feet in height. In the pictures were two people that looked similar, wore similar clothes, were doing the same action, or were fans of the same sports team. That represents family because you do not need to be brothers to be family, you can be friends that share a common interest and you are a family. All of the New York Yankee fans in this world are all a family because they cheer for the same team and when they win everyone is happy and when they lose everyone is hurt. In the expression, “you win as a team, and lose as a team” that could also be said, “you win as a family, and lose as a family” because if you are on a team together, you are family. The technique of this artwork is extremely eye catching because it is a different form of art and it is very clever. To have the thought of capturing people that are similar in some way is unique. The colors of all the different pictures go together well...

...Capstone CheckPoint: Art In My Community Arts in my community of Minneapolis, Minnesota are supported by a great number of agencies and citizens. We have tons of art museums, non-profit art organizations, and art centers. In Minnesota it seems that they try to incorporate art into every city. We also have things like the Minnesota State Arts Board, which is a state agency that simulates and encourages the creation, performance, and appreciation of arts in the state. We also have Partners in Arts Participation, which is a pilot grant program designed to broaden opportunities for Minnesotans to participate in the arts. Another program we have is called K-12 Arts Challenge Minnesota Grant, which is a noncompetitive grant program and funds are given out first come first serve. I do feel that we have enough support in Minnesota. The programs I named were just a few of the many programs we have to support art in the cities. I do however think people here need to be more supportive of children in arts. It is important to get them started at a young age and many people do not feel that art is important. I think it helps to expand a child’s way of thinking and it helps them to excel in other areas, because they know if something doesn’t work one way it’s time to take a new approach. My role in the creation and support of art in my community is very small and could get better. I do however start with my son, just like my parents did as well as my in-laws, at a very young age. I...

Bright primary colors can create an environment that feels over-stimulating to children whereas lighter colored background such as light blue walls and pastel yellow ceiling create a calming atmosphere. The colorful children’s art work that is displayed throughout the classroom with the child’s name, just below their creation will stand out on a light background and allowing the children to focus on their masterpieces. Their artwork should be displayed at eye level and changed frequently, so the children do not loose interest. Also displayed are colorful paintings from famous artists such as Claude Monet. The creative art area incorporates a large window to provide natural lighting. Easy access to items with different textures, shapes, colors, smells, and sounds are also available. The furniture is made of natural wood and interesting fabrics to further help stimulate the senses. ...with art is in form of an established system that is produced and reproduced by culture industry. Art as a socioeconomic value is subtly described hard to understand and participate and artist is who involve in greatness of arts. Contemporary arts are lacking the Burke’s sublime It is, in my opinion, mostly a medium for so called artist to show and promote his or her own individuality and subjective understanding of reality in a fancy way that has nothing to do with the psyche of aesthetic. Art is becoming much of a personal media of artist instead of representation of seeking beauty in physical or philosophical terms. For example, Pollock promotes a sense of recklessness in a world with massive wars; his personal understanding of world is valuable but not the art works. However, Vitruvian Man of Da Vinci bears its own value independent of the man who made it. Beside, art or being and artists includes a certain amount of privliage; it is true that barriers of participation to art is high but communicating that everybody is great and special and eventually reproducing the idea that real art is beyond human is a structural hypocrisy. Hence, performance arts went down from ballet or theatre to Marina Abramovic who does not perform but processes experience and creates participation to art. Moreover, established system crushes people just the right amount so that some of the artistic people use their capabilities to rebel and nothing more. Regardless of individual effort art as we...

...Essay on Art/Expression Seminar I: Exploring the Liberal Arts Ottawa University 02/01/14 Introduction Art is the most creative way for communication possible. They are many forms of art. As I researched many different forms of art, I see art as the form of something visual. I know this is a cliché, but I believe beauty is in the eyes of the holder. Art is how people perceive it through others expressions. And also the relationships people have with arts. The Body of Art/Expression I learned that Robert Frost and Maya Angelou were great poets. But quite different in the way they wrote their poetry. Robert Frost liked to use everyday words you could use in a conversation. He believed poetry should not tell us something we don’t know, but to teach us. As for Maya Angelou, she had different way of writing. Angelou was an African American who had a difficult childhood. Angelou was raped by her mother’s boyfriend. This caused her to stop talking. Through expression of Art, she became a great poet. Artistic expression can take on many forms. Whether it is painting, writing poems or books, composing music or one of the many ways that people express themselves. Art expression is a way to promote creativity that can increase happiness. So whatever artistic pleasure a person likes, it is how a person likes it its how they express me in through art is through music. I enjoy singing and listening to country music. It has a calming effect on me. As for a career...

You will choose two photographs to analyze and compare, and will analyze them for content, looking particularly at how the form of each photograph might communicate, and what is being communicated. You may choose photos from the DePaul Museum or the Museum of Contemporary Photography (which opens on OCT 18), to compare to each other, or to images in the Gage Gallery. You will analyze the photos according to a denotative/connotative approach. In this kind of analysis, you first look at and describe the artwork in question, taking note of all organizational structures, formal elements and details that make up the artwork (including the title). In order to do this more thoroughly, take a look at the terms that are listed below, and consider whether the artist is using any of these strategies and principles. Then in the connotative section, consider how is she/he using them in each artwork to help communicate, and state what the meaning of the photograph, or the intent of the photographer, might be based on your denotative findings. In the final section of your paper, compare the denotative/connotative conclusions of the separate photographs with each...
