The art of how to do anything is a skill; everyone has different skills. Whether it is to bake, cook or a manual labor skill it still such as fixing cars is an accomplishment. For instance giving a proper manicure as a licensed Cosmetologist would not be a skill anyone can do. Giving a proper manicure involves more than just filing the nails and applying polish on the nails. I have this knowledge due to my training at a ceritfide school (Ralph R. Mckee High School) To learn how to give a proper manicure that is Salon quality one must attend a Cosmetology school. First you are taught to inspect the nails to make sure they are free from fungus or cuts; it is very important to inquire if your client has diabetes or is a hemophiliac. If your client suffers from either illness there is one step of the manicure you should avoid; cutting the cuticles. After you have observed, and obtained the health information you can now proceed to the first manual step. To begin you must first remove any and all old nail polish from the nails. If the customer has acrylic nails or any type of fake nails, which are easily noticed. You must not use polish remover that contains acetone; this will melt and dissolve the nails. From here you proceed to filing the nails; real or fake. Before moving onto the next hand you must fill a handrest with warm soapy water. Place the hand you filled in the warm soapy water and proceed to file the other hand. When you are finished with filing both hands remove the first and replace it with the second hand. Take the first hand that has soaked and proceed to gently push back the cuticles to seperate the cuticle from the nail bed with a wooden stick that has a flat head at each end, this is called a cuticle pusher; they also make them in clay and metal. It is up to the nail technician’s personal taste as to which type of pusher they use. When the first hand is completed you now remove what is called Cuticle Clippers from a sterilizing solution and proceed to remove the dead skin surrounding the nail, as well as the cuticle itself (this is why you need to check on your clients health status before cutting). When you have completed this part of the process on the first hand you then proceed to work on the second hand. Before proceeding to apply any polish at all you first apply moisturizing lotion to the hands and begin to gently massage one hand and the arm up until the elbow. The technician massages both hands and arms for about ten minutes to have given your client a therapeutic massage, as well as helping them to completely relax. Once the nail technician completes this part of the process they then proceed to applying the nail polish of their client’s choice. If a client is indecive as to which color to choose as them to narrow it down to 2-3 choices and help them come to a decision from the 3 polishes. Sometimes clients may request a design painted on their nails as well. When applying the nail polish you first must apply a moisturizing clear base coat. This will protect the nails from staining and keep them healthy at the same time. To apply the color of the client’s choice you take the hand you began with and hold it in your left hand if you are a right-handed person. With your free right hand take the nail polish brush tap any excess off then begin to apply the nail polish, beginning with the clients pinky. To ensure applying the polish evenly and neatly rest your pinky fingers upon each other. At first you must be very careful and not rush through applying the polish. If the nail tech gets polish on the skin the tech would then take a wooden nail pusher applying a small amount of cotton to one end and dipping it in nail polish remover to help remove the polish from the skin without damaging the nail bed. Once both hands have polish applied to them you now apply a clear top coat that seals and protects the polish from chipping until the client is ready for their next manicure (which typically is about 2 weeks, depends on client upkeeps nails). Upon completion of the manicure the client will sit and dry their nails under a nail-dryer for about 15-20 minutes. At this point you have now completed successfully a professional level manicure. Manicuring is not always easy, especially on a professional level. If you are going to attempt your own remember to take precausion when using nail clippers, because they are sharp and you can easily give yourself a wound severe enough to require a visit to the doctor/ emergency room. If you can follow and perfom these steps on yourself in the correct manor people will be under the impression you recieved a perfessional manicure.

...GSS5000 | The History of Nail Art | Nail art and Nail Polish | | By Trang Nguyen | 11/11/2014 | | Abstract Nail art is a fashion sense in today’s world of fashion; it has become more and more popular in the beauty industry and women and men all across the world are making this a fashion trend. Whether or not nail art may be a “new” trend or not, nail polish has been around since high- gloss car paint was invented. Interestingly, back in 3200 B.C., Babylonian males wore black or green nail polish, which signified class; with green representing the lower class and black as the higher class.(Oliveras, 2012) Other countries such as China, Britain, France, and America have an intriguing history of how nail polish existed in their culture. Nail polish and nail art may be the trend today; however, it has always been a trend for many other cultures back in history as well. Keywords: Nail Art, Nail Polish In China and in Egypt, 3000 B.C., the Chinese wore color on their nails as a reflection of class and the ruling of the different Dynasties. The Egyptian and Indian women stained their nails using henna so that the color of their nails would distinguish the upper and lower class; similar to the Babylonian’s. The Babylonian wore green which represented the lower class and black as the higher class. Colors such as a light red were worn by the people of the Victorian era. (Oliveras, 2012) Nail polish and Nail art isn’t a new thing… it has been around for many years...

Joseph McAlman and his wife jointly operate the popular Gee Qu Barber Shop and Hair Tech Salon located on North Road between Wellington and King Streets. Described as a ‘two fold’ business venture, this unique combination of cosmetology courses and cosmetology services include that of hair care, manicure and pedicure; as well as a means for young and interested persons to benefit from the six to eight months training in cosmetology, which is done at the North road premises. For this dynamic duo, customer satisfaction is the key. They offer economical prices, with a friendly and people-oriented environment. Having been in existence in Guyana for fifteen years, this venture came to fruition through hard work and determination and most importantly through two people’s complementary skills. In reminiscing about the days past, Mr. McAlman stated that because of the shared interest in grooming and cosmetology between him and his father, he developed an interest in the art of beautifying and caring for oneself. With a very humble start, involving rental of premises and a need for independence, a working business plan was created in order to achieve their goals. This working business plan saw the creation of a two year business focus, which led to the procurement of their premises. Over the years, the focus was increased gradually to three then five years. Nail Technician Research Paper

...Research Paper Rough Draft: How to become a Neat Nail Technician Looking around the room, I see an array of beautiful shades to choose from. Pastels with deep dark colors of nail polishes are sitting on organized shelves to be chosen. Sometimes a salon will have a strong stench of chemicals, mixed with the sound of nail buffing drills, and chatter too. However, getting a manicure and pedicure is still a relaxing retreat that many women, even men, look forward to. When I was a just a little girl, I became exposed to the art of nail design and a vast selection of polishes throughout the years of my mother’s influence. Painting nails, playing with false nails, and the experience in taking trips to the nail salon with my mother have become hobbies of mine ever since then. Thereafter, I realize that in order to become a professional nail technician, it will take hours of practice and training to obtain your license, and testing your skills in your new workplace. This topic is something interesting that I liked learning about, and I thought it would be great to be able to save money by doing own nails. “As a nail technician or manicurist, you will trim and polish clients' nails, repair broken nails, and apply nail extensions. Ethnic Oppression Affects Black Entrepreneurs

...decided to open her own braiding salon. That is when she found out that operating a salon without a cosmetology license was a crime that could land her in prison for a year along with fines of up to $10,000. As a single mother, she could not afford either one so she closed down her shop after just a few months of operation. Recently, Agit joined a few other African-style hair braiders and the Institute for Justice in a lawsuit against the Iowa Board of Cosmetology Arts & Sciences to challenge the state's licensing requirements. They say that the laws are “burdensome and arbitrary…causing great and irreparable harm”, stating that “Iowa has the dubious distinction of imposing the most red tape on braiders.” In their favor is the cosmetology schools' curriculum, a curriculum that does not even require training on braiding. According to Forbes, "braiders must endure hundreds of hours of instruction on topics completely irrelevant to their careers, like learning how to cut hair and perform perms, facials, manicures and pedicures." Yet, they could leave school without a single minute spent on the skill of African hair braiding, a skill they already have, by-the-way. Across the border in Minnesota, braiders can register with the state after completing a 30-hour sanitation course and paying a $20 annual fee. Shockingly, Minnesota is the exception, not the norm. While braiding businesses raided in high profile cases in Florida and Texas led to changes in those states, only 11 other...
