...Article Rebuttal Paper Carrington Ethridge 4/14/2014 Dr. Linda Vallejo Should Marijuana Be a Medical Option? In 1972, the US Congress placed marijuana in Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act because they considered it to have "no accepted medical use." Since then, 21 US states Nations Capitol have legalized the medical use of marijuana. Supporters of medical marijuana argue that it can be a safe and effective alternative treatment for the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, and other conditions. There are multiple studies from credible sources from prominent medical organizations, major government reports, and the use of marijuana as medicine throughout world history that support this. Non-Supporters of medical marijuana like the FDA argue that it is too dangerous to use as an alternative treatment for various reasons. One example would be that legal drugs make marijuana use redundant. They also say marijuana is addictive, a gate way to use other illegal drugs, interferes with fertility, and other physical and mental illnesses. They say that medical marijuana is used as front for the legalization of a banned substance. I believe medical marijuana should be legalized in all 50 states for alternative treatment. I feel if there is more supportive evidence supporting my beliefs on this topic then there is unsupportive evidence. Plus with man-made drugs they usually have a lot...

...Rebuttal Of Article Paper Dwight Dundas BCOM/275 4/28/2014 Doris Savron “Legalizing illegal immigrants is a bad idea.” So reads the headline of an article written for the Chicago Tribune by Dave Seminara (February 08, 2013). First I must state that I disagree with the author’s opinion in this article. The legalization of immigrants isn't a bad idea. Aside from my personal opinion, there are many studies that have shown this to be a good move for our country. The author, Mr. Seminara, made several points throughout the article to justify his opinion. Some of his title points included, “It’s not just going to be 11 million”, “Shadowy people aren't going to come out of the shadows”, Jobs Americans won't do, and “We already have guest worker programs that don't work”. According to Mr. Seminara, “A substantial percentage of illegal immigrants are here alone, and once they get green cards, they will be able to petition for their wives and children to join them in the U.S. And if they become U.S. citizens, they will also be able to petition for their siblings and parents” he also goes on to say that “11 million migrants could result in possibly 30 million new arrivals”. This conclusion from Mr. Seminara sounds like more an sensationalized theory, than actual fact. He offers no supportive data to prove how 11 million illegal immigrants will become 30 million, nor does he state how long the number would take to grow from 11 to 30 million. However, if his numbers...

...from US economy provides in her article entitled “What is The American Dream” a host of ideas of what is projected to be what citizens of these great states call the American Dream, the way of life, living the life. In a country where opportunity is bountiful and plentiful many have dedicated their lives to building a life of fortune and financial freedom. On the other hand in many cases this is a reality and lifetime dream that is never reached or acquired for most. What we know as The Founding Fathers of these united states of America, is that the revolutionary idea that each person's aspirations to pursue happiness was not just self-indulgence, but a building block of what drives and sets the tone for ambition and creativity. By not only declaring, but also legally protecting the vested ideas and values, that the Founding Fathers set up as a very attractive society for those who aspire to a better life for themselves, and their families. Though success is a common goal for all, no matter your race, ethnic background, and or social status, Poverty and financial hardship is still an ever-present factor in today’s time. The US Department of Health and Human Services suggests that there is over 12,800,000 Americans on welfare. 46,700,000 Americans on food stamps, 5,600,000 on unemployment. Records also indicate that total government spending on welfare annually is calculated as a whooping $131.9 billion dollars to date. In the article referenced above the author makes...

...The first article that I began to consider was Blame the Echo Chamber on Facebook. But Blame Yourself, too by Kartik Hosanagar. Within the evidence section of this paper the author established his authority to be speaking on this paper by his reference to research studies that he participated in regarding this algorithmically personalized content. By referencing these research studies Mr. Hosanagar is attempting to appeal to his audience’s ethos by proving he is a credible source to be speaking on this topic. Once he begins discussing the topic of the paper he makes a point to distinguish the difference between how an iTunes algorithm for generating personalized content is different from what Facebook does to appeal to our political curiosity. I believe this deliberate point to distinguish the difference between these...

...Article Rebuttal BCOM/275 Article Rebuttal The controversial subject that I choose to do this paper on is drug testing on those who receive food stamps. I am for it. People who abuse getting welfare from the government for themselves or their children messed it up for those who are true to the law. I believe that they should get drug tested only because they do have children and they are neglecting them by trading in the food stamps for money and buying drugs for their selves. Those parents or guardians who are doing this are being greeting and not putting the children’s needs first. Kentucky is trying to get HB 208 passed. The bill states the adult recipients will have to undergo a blood or urine test when they first get assistance, and then each year thereafter, assigned randomly (Word Press Admin, 2011). It is a good way to get parents or guardians to realize what they are putting their children through, although it will not take drugs off the street, it may make better parents. Tax payers will no longer have to worry about their money getting put to bad use. The bill states anyone receiving public assistance, monetary assistance, food stamps, and medical assistance must undergo a urinary test or blood test in order to receive those benefits (Harmon, 2011). If one shall test positive under the circumstances they will not be reported to the police, they will simply lose all benefits they get. ...Article Rebuttal Paper Wendy Cook BCOM 275 February 6, 2012 Shawn Castle Article Rebuttal Paper For many years there has been a long standing debate as to whether the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine causes children to develop autism shortly after receiving it. There seems to be a clear line drawn between those who believe the vaccine causes autism and thise who refute the claim. On one side, there are the parents who claim their child was “normal” until receiving this vaccine, and on the other side, there are the researchers, doctors, and drug companies who have completed in –depth studies of the MMR vaccine, and say that it is safe. According to an article in the Lancet, a British Medical Journal, Dr. Andrew Wakefield, completed a study that proved there was a connection between the MMR vaccine and early autism in children who were seemingly normal before they received the vaccine. He claimed that the vaccine inflamed the gut and that allowed the “toxic substance” to enter the bloodstream. The National Autism Association has even focused on the vaccine preservative, thimerosal, as a possible culprit. However, since 1992, thimerosal has been removed from all vaccines in the United States, and autism diagnoses continue to climb. Most children are given their first dose of MMR at around 12 – 15 months of age. Some parents are reporting that shortly after their child received this vaccine was when they noticed a change in their child. The parents of these kids are...

...Rebuttal Article: “Hidden Messages in Water” Shayne B. Kendig BCOM/275 May 21, 2012 Abstract This rebuttal article is about how external environment affects the molecular structure of water (shown as crystal formation) – the controversial experiment was conducted by Dr. Masaru Emoto. He published these results as photograph collections: “Messages from Water 1” (1999), “Messages from Water 2” (2002), “Messages from Water 3” (2004), and “Messages from Water 4” (2008).(Retrieved from http://masaru-emoto.net/english/ephoto.html). Rebuttal Article: “Hidden Messages in Water” Dr. Masaru Emoto is very well-known of his experimentation about water crystal formation. He claims that external environment and human consciousness affect the molecular structure of water as shown in crystal formation. According to him, “We start out life being 99% water, as fetuses. When we are born, we are 90% water, and by the time we reach adulthood we are down to 70%. If we die of old age, we will probably be about 50% water. In other words, throughout our lives we exist mostly as water. From a physical perspective, humans are water. When I realized this and started to look at the world from this perspective, I began to see things in a whole new way.” (Emoto 2004) ...

...Article Rebuttal BCOM275 The subject of this paper is a rebuttal to an article that focused on Proposition 8 that was introduced to the state of California in 2008. This paper will argue against the statements that the author said and give insight into how the author’s statements were misleading. First Statement “Now, two years later, though a federal court has declared Proposition 8 invalid under the U.S. Constitution, it nonetheless remains in effect. This state of affairs persists even though most people now support equal marriage rights…” (Brill, 2011). Brill is making a misleading comment here by saying that most of the country is in support of equal marriage rights. By stating that most of country now supports equal marriage rights is a bit of an exaggeration. According to the Pew Research Center, Americans for the majority are still opposed to same sex marriages by the tune of 46% against it (Pew Research Center, 2011). The results from the poll also showed that there was 9% that voted “do not know” and they were counted in with those that were for same sex marriage (Pew Research Center, 2011). Second Statement “The initiative proponents, however, have appealed. Now the California Supreme Court must decide whether unelected and unaccountable initiative proponents have the power to trump the judgment of the democratically elected attorney general” (Baume, 2011). This statement by the author is a way of classifying or assuming that all the people...

...Article Rebuttal on Pro Choice BCOM 275 August 5, 2013 Michael Frank The controversial topic that this paper will discuss is the right to pro choice. Pro choice being the woman’s right to decide abortion as an alternative to pregnancy. After reading the article “Pro-Life vs Pro-Choice: Annihilating the Abortion Argument” by Hank Hanegraaff, in which uses the acronym (A-B-O-R-T-I-O-N) to discuss the reasons why abortion should not be legal. I will provide a rebuttal to this article as to why I do not agree with these views and I will discuss how pro-choice is a necessary option for all women. In Hank Hanegraaff’s article he discusses his views on pro life. He goes on to state his reasons why pro –life is much more important than pro-choice. He states that pro-choice advocates attack people rather than issues facing abortion and pro-life advocates. To further prove his point of view he uses biblical references, as he understands, to state that abortion is nothing more than killing another human being, in which the Bible states “Thou shall not kill”. He uses that abortion is a violation of the sixth amendment, as if abortion is against the law. Hank also states that when abortion is the result of pregnancy from rape or incest, that one should not compound the situation by aborting the unwanted child. He states that “two wrongs, do not make it right” (Hanegraaff, 2009). He also states that a study said that .06 percent of pregnancies are from rape or incest (Hanegraaff,...

...Rebuttal of “Teen's life and death unfolds on Twitter” University of Phoenix This is written in rebuttal of Jaime Butow’s article in the Bakersfield Californian on October 29, 2012. The article is about the social media postings of Breana Webb and her friends over the weekend leading to her death at the hands of a drunk driver early on Monday morning. This article will analyze the reliability, credibility, and validity of the data used by Ms. Butow. It will also illustrate the logical fallacies in Ms. Butow’s argument. First we will analyze the author’s reliability and validity of data. In this instance they can be judged together. The data used and quoted by Ms. Butow is taken directly from Ms. Webb’s Twitter account and other social media pages. Also, Ms. Butow’s data comes from Ms. Webb’s Twitter account “followers”, or people who follow her posts. These followers are typically friends with the account holder. Ms. Butow’s reliability of data is impeccable with some points because it was written by Ms. Webb. However, posts made on Twitter by other people began to lose absolute reliability because it begins to become here say. The validity of the data holds true for all the same reasons as its reliability (Butow, 2012). Next we will analyze Ms. Butow’s credibility. This becomes a difficulty situation as her story was not written directly about the DUI and its resulting accident, but rather the online legacy that a person leaves behind. The first point to...

We need to remember that controversy of what needs to be done with him and who needs to be in charge of interrogating and prosecuting him is very crucial for the judicial process. Credibility of source This article is very trusted and has great sources and great insight to the happenings of the court system and who is rendered as what, throughout the terrorist title, and who comes in this country and does these acts and who is a citizen and completes these acts, etc. It is also a .org site which leads me to believe it is great information and trustworthy right away. The ACLJ engages legal, legislative, and cultural issues by implementing an effective strategy of advocacy, education, and litigation that includes representing clients before the Supreme Court of the United States and international tribunals around the globe. ...Oral Article Rebuttal - Capital Punishment BCOM/275 18 October 2012 Debra Brown Capital Punishment Article Rebuttal This paper is to examine an article based on an argument that a 23 –year- old Texas mom of five children received 99 years for gluing her two –year- old hands to the wall and beating her. The child suffered bleeding in her brain, which put her in a coma for a couple of days; a broken rib, multiple bruises, and bite marks, and skin torn from her hands on the wall. * Elizabeth Escalona savagely beat her two- year- old child to the edge of death because of potty training issues. * For this monstrous crime Elizabeth received 99 years in prison with eligibility of parole in 30 years. * Lawyer asked for probation or a prison sentence of fewer than 10 years. My argument is the crime Elizabeth Escalona committed was so heinous she should be punished by death. Remember, this happen in the Texas judicial system that is known to have the highest number of executions per year in the United States. Because Texas is the capital of capital punishment Elizabeth Escalona should receive the death penalty. Her lawyer asked the judge for probation or a prison sentence of less than 10 years stating that she came from a broken home, abuse and childhood of drug use and gangs. This is no excuse for the crime committed. The state of Texas has established government assistance...
