It could take weeks or even months to gain my prescription, not to mention my medical treatment. This is the problem Colby Buzzell constantly goes through as a sufferer of PTSD from serving his country. In the article he wrote (Thank You For Being Expendable) he talks about his continuing struggle with the VA system. Which clearly isn't sufficient to care for its patrons.
To begin, this system takes too long to take action. The redirection of calls and inefficiency of information through these calls is baffling. As Colby says in his article,”The wait was long-sometimes 45 minutes to an hour.. someone would pick up and either put me on hold again or transfer me over to someone else”.This is ridiculous, these people thinking of killing themselves and are getting no help for hours at a time. How would your conscience feel, knowing that you let someone kill themselves knowing that, you could have easily stopped it. Not to mention, if there is a set appointment, it can take 3 to 4 months to occur. This continues to frustrate me, as a grateful civilian who pays for their …show more content…
First with the difficulties of reaching help on the V.A. call-line, then the lack of care and treatment, followed by neglect of continuing aid. Within the website directory, Veteran Affairs does nothing to attempt at helping its people, other than distract them from self-harm and/or frustrate them. In Colby’s experience he says,”recorded message played on a constant loop ’welcome to Department of Veteran Affairs.. the VA is here to serve you… having problems call 911 or Veterans Crisis Line’”. This is a sincere lie of help made by the people of VA offices, which feels to the people in pain and misery that they are being mocked by their “helpers”. Colby’s recurrence of being ignored continues with,” If i’m calling the VA it’s because i’m in really bad shape…. they’d always say the exact thing ‘Sorry but that’s the earliest we can see
