Artist Deconstruction Visual communication relies both on eyes that function and on a brain that interprets all the sensory information received (Lester, 2014, p. 5). The effectiveness of an advertisement relies on communicating to its audience the worthiness of the product in a persuasive manner. The Nike Shoe Company has been one of the most successful organizations across the globe. It is partially owed to the powerful advertisements that have been created to communicate to its customers or audience about its products efficiently and persuasively. My paper analyzes Nike’s the “Nike Free 5.0 V2” shoe advertisement. The ad concentrates on the design of the Nike Free 5.0 V2 shoe, which is based on Natural Motion Engineering technology. It allows the feet to grip and flex, thus helping in maintaining stability and balance and building stronger muscles. The way, the advert is designed, makes it effective in putting the message across and convincing the audience that they need the shoe, thus likely to purchase it. The ad composes of a large picture of the Nike shoe placed on a light blue background. The shoe is pictured on its own, touching the ground and vertically rising from the ground. The fore of the shoe is bent or flexed. It is similar to the way as a person flexes the feet to lift them from the ground while running. Advertisements also communicate effectively when they use emotional appeal or simply establish an emotional connection with the audience. The advert achieves this by playing on the audience artistic sensibility. By looking at the image of the shoe, the audience can instantly see that the shoe is strong yet flexible. The audience can already imagine how it would feel wearing the shoes; how the shoe will allow their feet to grip and flex when running, thus enabling their foot muscles to take charge of stability and balance. It will in return allow them to run better and avoid any falls that may result in injuries. In essence, the picture stimulates the audience's emotional responsiveness to enable the audience connecting emotionally with the advertisement. The image also contains lines that guide the eyes. Vertical lines can convey a diversity of moods ranging from power and strength to growth. The strongest yellow line is strategically placed in the middle of the picture for the viewer to concentrate on both sides of the image separately. The left side as to reflect on the flexibility and shape of the shoe and what it represents; the right side is to encourage the recognition of the brand. The sides of the picture frame and the yellow midline are all arranged symmetrically to create a balanced image. The horizontal line of the shoe’s shadow creates a focal point for the viewer to concentrate on the bending part of the shoe and connect it with the memory of the indicated action. From the analysis, it is clear that the effectiveness of the ad in persuading its audience lies in employing emotional appeal and logical or factual information. These elements make the advert pass its message across to its audience in a persuasive manner. For example, the use of facts, in the context of Natural Motion Engineering Technology makes the audience believe the benefits that the shoe offers are real because there is scientific proof. The advert also employs pathos to establish an emotional connection by enabling the audience envisions how it feels to wear the shoe. In addition, the authority in the image makes the audience trusts the quality and the benefits that the shoe offers. In simple terms, the three-advertisement communication elements work together to make the audience see the need and the importance of purchasing the product, thus making the advert an effective visual communication tool. It informs that logos, ethos, and pathos are an effective tool in visual communication that helps in getting the message across effectively and persuasively to the audience. What I like about this ad is that it states specifically how the shoes work and the benefits of it. For instance, it is stated in the body copy " the result is stronger muscles from your toe to your hips " I would definitely immediately think of buying this shoe if I was a fitness junky. Besides that, athletes with weak core leg muscle would definitely find this ad very eye catching just by looking at the headline of this ad " No More Wimpy Feet ". Athletes, who have a long search for a solution to keep their leg out of injury, would love this shoe! No doubt about it.

Artist Deconstruction

...Artist Deconstruction Pablo Picasso was born on October 25th, 1881 in Malaga, Spain. Pablo is a famous painter who was influenced by symbolism and some say started the movement of cubism. When Pablo was young he showed a great potential in drawing. Pablo didn’t care for schoolwork and mostly wanted to draw all day long (Ghare, 2011). When he was 14 he applied to the School of Fine Arts which typically only takes older people, much older, then Picasso was (Ghare, 2011). However, his entrance exam was so extraordinary that the school felt it was important to make an exception (Ghare, 2011). Picasso moved to Paris where his adult career began to flourish. The paintings by Picasso are typically categorized into periods based on the mood and style of Picasso. The first is called the, The Blue Period, which happened from 1901-1904. It was called this because his paintings were mostly in blues and greens. The subjects of these paintings were prostitutes and beggars. The second period called The Rose Period was from 1905-1907 because he mostly used orange and pink. From 1907-1909, the African Period, he was inspired by African art and artifacts. Lastly, we have Cubism which occurred from 1909-1912 and used mostly monochrome brown colors (Ghare, 2011). With cubism, Picasso was able to re-create his subjects often breaking them apart and reconstructing within the painting (Ghare, 2011). Pablo was a sensational artist and changed the world of art with his paintings. He was married...

Deconstructivism, in the Work of Peter Eisenman

...Postavant-garde and Poststructuralism, to create a new architectural fashion. A Deconstructivist idea, an idea regarding both art and architecture, seperates, severes, breaks, fragments, but that at the same time, reconstitutes the bits and pieces gained in the process into a comprehensive principle, a controlled chaos. Just like any movement, the effect of Deconstruction on both art and architecture is somehow similar. Comparing 2 pieces, one artistic and the other architectural, you can see how art and architecture are closely related and affected by one another. The thing that arouses the debate "Is Architecture an art form?". It is important to mention that in 1984, with the construction of the first deconstructivist project "Parc de la Villette", Deconstructivism first became art. Going back to the origins of Deconstruction, it is a philosophy discussed by the French philosopher Jaques Derrida who had a big impact on architects and artists. Derrida was a friend of architect Peter Eisenman, which made the latter a pioneer in Deconstructionism. Eisenman drew some philosophical bases from the literary movement Deconstruction, and collaborated directly with Derrida on some projects. He is known for his strong interest in architecture theory; architecture as a conceptual, cultural, and intellectual enterprise. He is best known for his series of Deconstructivist houses 1-->10. Each houses had a different thematic, but they were concerned not with meaning in the social sense...

The Deconstruction of Waiting for Go Dot

...Deconstruction is a mode of interpretation which works by a careful and cautious entering of each layer within the story: “ The deconstructive critic seeks to find the thread in the text in question which will unravel it all or the loose stone which will pull down the whole building”. Deconstructive literary criticism uses binary oppositions. Binary oppositions can be defined as “ a pair of related terms or concepts that are opposite in meaning.” “Waiting for Godot”, a classic of modern theatre, is a tragicomedy in two acts which tells the story of two men, Vladimir and Estragon, who are waiting to meet a man named Godot. By using deconstructive literary criticism, the play can be analyzed threw the following binary oppositions: passive/active hopelessness/hope, forgetfulness/remembrance and staying/going. Vladimir and Estragon are in a constant state of waiting for Godot: “Nothing to be done. / I'm beginning to come round to that opinion."(Waiting for Godot). Although they are being passive they try to occupy themselves while waiting for Godot. Derrida states that in binary oppositions there is a unspoken hierarchy in which the first term functions as superior to the second term which is considered inferior: “ Derrida’s procedure is to invert the hierarchy in which the first term functions as privileged and superior and the second term as derivative and inferior. By showing that the primary term can be made out to be derivative from or a special case of the secondary term”...

Green Construction

...Green Construction INF 103 Prof. Sean Kenney 02/25/2013 What would life be like if we no longer had the resources to supply us with food, water, and the necessary resources to sustain human life? What if our air was no longer breathable? What if our streets were filled with trash? If our behavior as a society doesn’t change our habits this image can soon become a reality. Going green is necessary to preserve and sustain our required livable resources. In fact we have all gone green without a conscious effort. One aspect of going green that interests me is green construction. Green construction is the ability to construct eco-friendly buildings while efficiently using resources and reducing pollution. This process also continues throughout the buildings life cycle. Green construction has the ability to create and sustain a viable way of reducing the permanent destruction of human resources. USGBC (U.S. Green Building Council) is an organization of members who are dedicated in regenerating and sustaining a healthy environment. USGBC developed an internationally known green construction program called LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). LEED was created “to transform the way buildings and communities are designed, built and operated, enabling an environmentally and socially responsible, healthy, and prosperous environment that improves the quality of life” (Foundations of LEED, 2009, Para. 3). For a building to be deemed green, it must be certified...

...Title: Economics of Reuse of Construction and Demolition Waste: A practical Approach Abstract Construction material waste seems to have caused serious environmental problems in many large cities around the world over the past few years. As pressure for environmentally-friendly building practices increases, companies are discovering that ultimately 'going green' often promotes cost effectiveness and enhances the quality of life. The idea of ‘reuse’ and ‘recycle’ of many construction materials is a smart decision for all builders whether they are interested in environmentally-friendly building or not. At baseline, the research project will adopt three aims: 1) to examine the current issue with waste minimisation, cost implication by effectively management; 2) to investigate the economic analysis of reuse and recycling of construction and demolition waste; 3) to explore various construction materials that can be effectively reused and recycled. In order to achieve the above research aims, the following objectives are set: * To determine the importance of cost reduction techniques for reuse of construction and demolition waste * To investigate whether or not the economics of construction recycled materials can be justified throughout construction activity lifecycle. * To investigate the economic impact of reuse and recycling construction materials on major projects * To develop propose unique theoretical models on decision-making for reuse of construction and...

Derrida

...Can’t we deconstruct Derrida’s own writing? In Differance, Derrida suggests that a given word’s meaning comes not from the word itself, but from its relationship with other words in the structural web, as well as from how it differs from those other words. (Interestingly, each of the words that give a given word its meaning are themselves only reflected in their structural relationship and difference from still other words). Further, Derrida’s writing suggests that language is not a suitable medium to convey something precise. To the writer, a word has associations and connotations that it may not have to the reader. It hardly matters how exact the writer is in his choice of words; once a word is used in writing, it has an infinite number of possible meanings. Therefore, meaning is not something that can be controlled by the writer. If meaning cannot be controlled by word choice, even a writer’s own writing can only have meaning for him if he pretends that what he is writing can only be interpreted in the way that he wants it to be interpreted. If it is only through this self-deception that a writer’s words can even be meaningful to the writer himself, what hope can there possibly be for meaningful communication with others? How does Derrida himself expect to convey anything meaningful if all the words, concepts, and signs he uses can be deconstructed just as easily as the works of others that he deconstructs? Perhaps an answer to this can be found in Derrida’s idea of differance...

Waiting for Godot

...ANALYZING THE CONCEPT OF DERRIDA’S DECONSTRUCTION IN SAMUEL BECKETT’S WAITING FOR GODOT ANALYZING THE CONCEPT OF DERRIDA’S DECONSTRUCTION IN SAMUEL BECKETT’S WAITING FOR GODOT Deconstruction is a literary theory and philosophy of language derived principally from Jacques Derrida's 1967 work Of Grammatology. The premise of deconstruction is that all of Western literature and philosophy implicitly relies on a metaphysics of presence, where intrinsic meaning is accessible by virtue of pure presence. Deconstruction rejects the possibility of a pure presence and thus of essential or intrinsic meaning. Due to the impossibility of pure presence and consequently of intrinsic meaning, any given concept is constituted and comprehended from the linguistic point of view and in terms of its oppositions, e.g. perception/reason, speech/writing, mind/body, interior/exterior, marginal/central, sensible/intelligible, intuition/signification, nature/culture. Derrida says that one member is associated with presence (more highly emphasized) while the other is associated with absence. He proposes “difference” - a perpetual series of interactions between presence and absence - where a concept is constituted, comprehended and identified in terms of what it is not and self-sufficient meaning is never arrived at. Derrida's theories on deconstruction were influenced by the work of linguists such as Ferdinand de Saussure and literary theorists such as Roland Barthes (whose works were an investigation...

...Art and Culture The relationship between the artist and the audience is a crucial element to the success of the artwork in its historical era. Titian’s traditional Renaissance symbolism and style of painting made his work a masterpiece of his time. According to art critic Brand Hamlee Titian’s work met the “demands of an admiring public. As he was particularly famous for his portraits and mythological works” this created a positive relationship between “Venus of Urbino” and the intended Renaissance audience. The relationship between the artwork and the audience is also evident through the Renaissance symbolism throughout his artwork, Venus seductive glaze captured Renaissance viewers and the high quality of Venetian light and tone to perfection was a vital characteristic to the success of the artwork to its intended audience. In addition, using symbolism, which had significance to the Renaissance mythological style also strengthened the relationship between the artist and the artwork. The Spaniel represents a symbol of fidelity a strong theme in Renaissance art as well as the use of roses, myrtle tree and the Spaniel were traditionally associated with the goddess Venus. The Brush strokes and pale rosy and ochre colours luxuriously applied created the central tones of the Venus body is an essential symbol of Renaissance sensuality, beauty and desire that was praised by all audiences. 1malaysia: Beyond the Canvas

...This landmark exhibition has exhibited some of the most compelling works by many a local artist. An important milestone was created when this very same event was replicated beyond the shores of the country, bringing Malaysian Art to Karachi, Pakistan. A show that demarcates the objectives of Wei-Ling Gallery to promote contemporary Malaysian Art, previous instalments provided a platform to two dimensional art works that vetted specific matters. The artists strived to create dialectic works with characteristic impulses. In concurrence with the 5th instalment of the 18@8 exhibition, the gallery posed a new challenge to the participating artists and itself. A turning point for Wei-Ling Gallery is its initiative to orchestrate and curate shows based on its own direction, heartening the artists to widen their tangential perspectives with conceptualized shows. As the gallery is taking the road less travelled in more experimental and cutting edge shows, so do the artists. This vehicle (18@8) presents the artists with an avenue to work beyond the boundaries of individualistic concerns, transgressing beyond the norm of what we expect. With an exploratory ardour, Wei-Ling Gallery conceptualized and challenged the artists to partake in thematic investigations that result in art works that move beyond the constraints of the canvas. The encouragement to deviate from the propensity of the artists in conventional formats ostensibly creates invigorating impulses to re-think and re-shape...
