THE PROBLEM AND ITS BACKGROUND
INTRODUCTION
According to Judith Lewis Herman said, “After a traumatic experience, the human system of self-preservation seems to go onto permanent alert, as if the danger might return at any moment.” This study helps us to understand the situation of the particular seafarer that has an unconditional experience onboard that marks as a traumatic incident on their life. Basic preparation towards this kind of situation or incidents can be learned from school and it might be a guide for the student so that if they go onboard the ship, they must be physically, mentally, and emotionally prepared. A person may experience trauma onboard ship for many reasons: they might have been experience such as fire onboard ship, piracy, and collision. Piracy is one of the most dangerous and life-threatening incident that causes a larger effect through the person memory that leads into a serious traumatic brain injury. Therefore, it is important for the student to be knowledgeable in these kinds of situation to prevent such accidents from happening. Experience officer can share their experiences so that students in order to learn how they may handle those kinds of accident in the future.

Background of the Study Seafaring dates back up to two millennia. The prehistoric boats were used in transportation and fishing. They are presumed to be dugout canoes. After thousands of years, seafaring explorations lead to ancient trade routes.

Now, marine transportation is offered as a college degree. The degree covers sea ad boat management as well as navigation. The degree is known as Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT). It is a four-year undergraduate degree program. Its goal is to provide the shipping industry with technically knowledgeable, vigorous, and disciplined Marine Deck officers essential to the profession (FEATI University). And as marine officers, you are to be onboard the ship for more than 3 months at a time. With this comes different circumstances both pleasant and not. For more than a century, stress has been understood as both a physiological and psychological process resulting from exposure to adverse or challenging stimulus. Early research identified reactive “fight or flight” mechanisms important for initial response to danger (Cannon 1914). These mechanisms respond to perceived threats by preparing the organism for instantaneous response. Threat recognition in the amygdala is followed by elevated heart rate and arousal, hyper-alertness and secretion of catecholamine (including adrenaline) from the adrenal gland. These prepare the organism for the demands of an aggressive encounter or flight from danger. Also, a second stress response system has been identified.

Statement of the problem 1. What kind of behavior do seafarers manifest onboard? 1. PHYSICAL 2. EMOTIONAL 3. MENTAL
2. Upon hearing these situations, How can it affect the mindset of the students?
3. What will be the likely implication of these manifested behavior to the respondents?
4. Will these manifested behaviors affect the maritime industry in general? Why? Or why not?

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The intent of the study is to contribute to the overall knowledge based on surveys and tests about behavioral effects most seafarers felt regarding serious emotional and behavioral condition while their onboard. Most seafarers did not endorse the notion that their job is unduly stressful under normal conditions, physical trauma refers to a physical injury. However, the words trauma is usually refer to someone who has suffered serious and life threatening, like physical injury potentially resulting in a secondary complication such as shock most of them overt concern about anticipatory stress about transiting zones of piracy, and have been held hostage, and experience some after effects of the trauma . Stress and Depression is normal to experience a range of moods, both high and low, in everyday life. Seafarer falls into depressing feelings like homesickness and financial status of their family while they onboard and may affect their ability to complete daily activities, hold a job and enjoy successful interpersonal relationship. Traumatizing events can take a serious emotional toll on those involved, even if the event did not cause physical damage. It was unexpected ,unprepared and there was nothing could do to prevent it from happening .Understanding behavioral trauma of a seafarers serve as an appropriate starting point for determining the complexities and nuance in improving supportive and responsive environments that ensure all seafarers find academic and behavioral success.

Scope and Limitations of the Study This study includes and does not go beyond the effects of different behavioral traumas experienced by seafarers while onboard. In addition to this, the said trauma comes from three aspects which are the physical, emotional, and mental aspects of a seafarer. Also, it includes the different responses the students may have upon hearing the situations experienced by these seafarers. It also includes the different mindsets of the students, whether it is changed or not, after hearing these situations.

Definition of Terms
Two Millennia - A millennium (plural millennia) is a period of time equal to 1000 years. It derives from the Latin mille, thousand, and annuls, year. It is often, but not always, related to a particular dating system.
Dugout Canoe- A dugout canoe or simply dugout is a boat made from a hollowed tree trunk.
VIGOROUS- Vigorous is a description for something strong or enthusiastic. It comes from the French word vigor, meaning "liveliness, activity.
Catecholamine - any of a class of aromatic amines that includes a number of neurotransmitters such as epinephrine and dopamine.
Stimulus - something that causes something else to happen, develop, or become more active

Archie discovered that beyond the immediate financial crisis ASDA had organizational and cultural issues. These issues created a problem of motivation.
