“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.” What it means is that hatred cannot be resolved with more hatred. Only love can keep people from hating each other. To me, this quote is about a fundamental truth of the world, and the corresponding relationship in the human heart. It starts out stating the obvious. Darkness is a lack of light. More darkness cannot make it less dark, which is something only bringing light can accomplish. Similarly, the quote tells us that hate cannot drive hate from your heart or the hearts of others. The only thing which can do that, according to the quote, is love. In the end, hate will continue if left unopposed. The question is how to best oppose it. The quote states what I believe is one of the simplest and best methods.
There is a mythology in our culture that love just happens. As a result, the depressed often sit around passively waiting for someone to love them. But love doesn't work that way. To get love and keep love you have to go out and be active and learn a variety of specific skills.
There are always core differences between two people, no matter how good or close you are, and if the relationship is going right those differences surface
They believe that the parents know all about their children so they are capable of choosing a suitable partner whom may enable the couple to have a successful marriage, all though if either the bride or groom disagrees the wedding cannot go on.
Someone else is deciding which direction your life is going in. When marriage is a consideration people are old enough to make their own decisions. Due to the parents choosing the partner for the woman she then feels obligated to stay in the relationship for the sake of the family pride and also respect in the community. There is a lot of pressure placed upon the child to conform to their parents expectations and she wants to make her family happy. If the family really cared about their daughter wouldn’t they let her make her own decisions?
Some people believe in love at first sight, while others believe it takes time to love someone.
Toleration is "the practice of deliberately allowing or permitting a thing of which one disapproves.

...Nuclear Power In the scope of sustainability, the nuclear fission power has many advantages over its competitors meanly produced from natural fossil fuels and the ones in the other category, such as wind power, hydro and solar power. The degree of the sustainability of the fission power varies in different approaches and implementations of nuclear fission power. Despite its strengths to be a sustainable power source, it has created new concerns in engineering, investing, safety, environment and other social aspects as well. The primary factctor for nuclear fission power being a sustainable resource is the fact it can generates enormous with a small amount of uranium. Power produced from one ton of uranium is equivalent to the outcome of burning over a million tons of coal. Nuclear fuel resources are abundant for the demands for a century and being discovered many more fission fuel resources in the oceans. The fission reactors are taken care with great safety measures so fission power is very safe. To avoid the hazards from the radioactive substantials used in fission products, three essential safety functions applied to nuclear power generation under the inspections of the governmental authority, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and industrial organization Institute for Nuclear Power Operations (INPO). The first is control of the reactor power. With the design principle of “defense in depth”, the reactors are equipped with redundant controls. Reactors have at...

...Joshua S. Grover 06/28/10 Organizational Behavior in Education Final Leadership Essay Responsibility: perhaps no better word describes what a leader faces as he or she manages an organization. As future leaders are cultivated and preened for future positions, it is necessary and vital to instill upon them the importance of such a position. It was in the midst of great self-reflection I realized how much I long to be an effective leader. It wasn’t until I participated in Education 630 under the instruction of Dr. Dennis Van Berkum of Minnesota State University, that I fully realized my potential as an educational leader. Through the required course-work, I’ve come to understand what an effective leader is. As a result I have chosen to compose the following essay on leadership. I will outline my point of view on organizational theory, leadership, and culture. I will also provide a personal perspective of decision making. Throughout this process I will also include my plan for growth in such an organization. It is clear that throughout the last century many different concepts have been attempted as an organizational theory. When reflecting on traditional theories it is evident that all of them have some principles that can be useful in today’s school systems. There are three organizational theories that beg investigation: Bureaucratic, Scientific Management, and Classical theories. In the following words, I will explore each theory and its validity as a useful management...

...Relate developmental observations to theory Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Motivation for action was thought to derive from a deprivation that created a disruption to, this homeo-static state. For example, deprivation of nourishment leads to motivation to seek food, and deprivation of interesting surroundings leads to motivation to seek stimulation. In these theories, the main explanatory concept—or motivational mechanism—was termed “Drive,” and it was thought to represent responses to such physiological deficits that aimed to restore homeostasis to the organism. It is based on Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. Kendra has a healthy development, she is provided a stable, responsive, and nurturing care-giving; safe, supportive, environments; and appropriate nutrition, preventive interventions such as vaccines for the treatment of diseases; and protection from violence, neglect and abuse. The child has a stable, caring, interactive relationships with adults (family relatives) – any way or any place they can be provided. Kendra’s development is something to do with Abraham Maslow’s theory where he stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on. This is under the first three stage model of hierarchy of needs, namely: Biological and Physiological needs - air, food, drink, shelter, warmth, sex, sleep. Safety needs that is defined as protection from elements, security, order, law, stability...

...Oxford’s Research-Based Affirmative Action December 10, 2010, 2:58 pm By Richard Kahlenberg A large-scale British study, released last week, gives new empirical support for the drive to provide affirmative action to “strivers,” less advantaged students who, despite obstacles, perform fairly well academically.  The research finds that students who attended regular “comprehensive” (public) secondary schools did better in college than those who scored at the same level on standardized admissions exams and attended “independent” (private) or “grammar” (selective public) schools. Pointing to the study last week, Oxford University’s dean of undergraduate admissions, Mike Nicholson, created waves when he declared that students who do well at poor performing secondary schools “may have more potential” than those from more-advantaged schools, and that universities should consider the context in which students compile an academic record.  In the United States, universities have claimed for years that admissions officers consider socioeconomic obstacles a student has overcome, though evidence suggests that on average, at the most selective 146 institutions, they do not. The new study, published by the British National Foundation for Educational Research and the Sutton Trust, a private foundation, was five years in the making and examined 8,000 students.  It found that students from independent or grammar schools performed the same in college as comprehensive-school students who scored...

Golding’s first book, a collection of poems, apperad in 1934. After study at university Golding moved to Salisbury, where he began teaching English and philosophy. In Salisbury Golding wrote several books, but did not get them published. “ Lord of the Flies”, an allegorical story set in the near future during war time, was turned down by many publishers until it finally appeared in 1954. The famous English writer Forster named this book “ The Book of the years”. At the time of its appearance,Golding was forty four, but the success of the novel allowed him to give up teaching. In the exciting story a group of small British boys, standed on a desert island, fall into violence after they have lost all adult guidance. Ironically, the adult world is ruined by nuclear war. The novel “ The Spire” concerned the construction of...

...Outline and evaluate psychological research into stress and the immune system (12 marks) Stress causes the release of ACTH from the pituitary gland which signals the adrenal glands to release anti-inflammatory hormones. This weakens the immune system leaving the body vulnerable to infection and illness. Raised levels of cortisol suppresses the TH1 immune response. Kiecolt-Glaser et al conducted a natural experiment into acute stress, the aim was to see if the stress of exams had an effect on the immune system. Blood samples were taken from medical students before and during the exam period, T-Cell activity was measured in the blood samples. The findings showed that T-Cell activity was significantly higher before exams which suggests that acute stress caused reduced immune system functioning. Showing that stress is linked to a weakening of the body’s immune system. A weakness of this study is that it lacks population validity, as it was carried out on medical students. This means that the findings may not be replicated in of individuals and caution should be taken when generalising the findings to the whole population because medical students might not be representative of everyone. Cohen carried out a study into chronic stress, looking at whether conflict in interpersonal relationships reduced immune system functioning. It was found that couples whose interactions are negative and hostile for longer than a month were at risk of developing illness when exposed to an infection...
