...Running head: ACCESSING ORACLE Accessing Oracle Intro to Relational Database Management Systems CIS111 Professor Rachelle Howard October 21, 2012 Accessing Oracle Accessing Strayer University UNIX server is an information technology tool that assists the completion of curricula activities and student lab assignments designed to expand the knowledge base in relational database management systems. For the first assignment, the following steps were taken to accomplish access to Oracle: 1. The first step to get to the Oracle server, Click on Start-> Programs -> Putty, was simple and easy. 2. After typing in the host name, UNIX-online.strayer.edu, I ensured the port was set to 22 and that the radio button was set for SSH. After entering Student Unix Server in the Saved Sessions box I selected “open” instead of going to the next step of selecting Category, which caused me to have to start over. 3. In the Category area on the left I selected Window. In the Columns and Rows boxes I entered 120 and 60 respectively to set the initial window size when opening the terminal window. Under Lines of scrollback, I enter 20000 and verified the remaining boxes. 4. I experienced dificulty with setting the colours. Under the Categories\Window to select Colours I selected ANSI Blue and typed in the values in the illustration before I selected Modify. I changed the colour to yellow and selected OK. This caused me to start the initial setup from step 1. I repeated this...

...Maximum Security in Database Management Maximum Security in Database Management Rackspace Introduction In the current world there people and organization experience un-eventualities and risk of their confidential information. My organization, Rackspace, is a hosting and cloud system organization. For this company it is vital that information is stored in data bases that are run by organizations, locally hosted on personal computers. Intruders can access this information if it is not properly secured. Therefore the purpose of this study is to inform about the current savvy technologies that can be applied to completely thwart intruders from accessing such delicate information within Rackspace. Part 1: Project Identification and Business Environment For this project to go on in a smooth and effective manner different individuals must carry on certain specified task. For Rackspace, this means that every person must hold on to a responsibility to properly and pursue it to the end. Some of the responsibilities are interdepended and other are depended. In case of an interdependent responsibility there will be a proper communicated channel of events that will ensure that information is traversed from one source to another to smoothen up events. Therefore, the following a list of responsible individuals who will implement the process of securing the database of an organization. ...Database Systems and How They are Used DBM/380 Week 1 Individual Assignment Craig Gruenbaum Instructor: Kevin Judge Database Systems and How They are used Database systems are utilized in basically every business every day. Businesses use data to perform a multitude of functions, such as sales transactions, customer queries, and the viewing of key performance indicators. Database systems are the management tool that aids in accessing this data. “In a sense, a database resembles a very well-organized electronic filing cabinet in which powerful software (the DBMS) helps manage the cabinet’s contents”(Rob, P., Coronel, C., & Morris, S, 2013). Database Architecture Database Architecture refers to the design of the database. For example, databases can be designed for a single site or multiple sites, have lots of generic data or data designed for a specific purpose, or be transactional or analytical. Take Oracle database architecture for example. “Oracle9i, Oracle8i, and Oracle8 databases are powerful, flexible, and scalable relational database management system (RDBMS) servers that run on a range of computer systems, from personal computers to largest mainframes. Oracle is designed to run effectively in a client/server environment and supports hundreds to thousands of users” (Oracle, "Migration Process", 1998). Summary Without database systems, companies would have no means by which to access the information stored in their databases. This information...

...Assignment 8: Distributed Databases The reason for writing this paper is to clarify the importance of distributed database and why national chain restaurant should implement it. Given the situation presented in the assignment a small restaurant has grown to become a national restaurant chain and now they are concerning more on the distribution of data among different sites chains. For this approach distributed database architecture is suggested and reasons to implement the distributed database I will explain throughout the rest of this paper. The three reasons why an organization may have a need for distributed databases and best practices for implementation of distributed database would be that it provides the distributed transaction management. It provides the provision to do the distributed transactions like select, update and delete on the data without worrying about concurrency or locking problems and they distributed database are independent of given hardware. Today’s world involves a diversity of different machines like Sun machines, PCs, IBM machines, HP machines, and workstations of various kinds. In distributed DBMS all these machines are able to incorporate the data on all of those systems. The plan is to be able to run the same DBMS on a different hardware platform. Operating system independence distribute DBMS is independent of the underlying operating system like UNIX, Linux, Sun Solaris or Windows. All the databases in this model are compatible with different...

...HR Database Systems Question 1 The two commercial HR database systems that I would recommend for my organization are the Oracle Human resources Management systems and the HR Quik HR database system. Using the HR Quik HR database system provides an advantage in that its reports are very simple to run with all its data being generated in Excel. It can track the costs and benefit plans of employees and all the data within the systems can easily be merged with an employee’s documents (Lee, Tan & Wuwongse, 2006). This database also generates forms automatically with regards to the newly hired employees and those who have been terminated; it saves the documents which have been scanned and offers sample forms for guiding users in their generation and use (Kavanagh, Thite & Johnson, 2011). However, the database also has several disadvantages manifested in its inability of creating security profiles, facilitating the effective performance of audit trails due to its concurrent access anomalies and it only offers cloud-hosting features as an optional tool only in some of those models found in the market (Singh, 2009). On the other hand, the Oracle Human Resource Management System also offers several advantages to its users that include the creation and definition of user and security profiles, enabling the effective performance of audit trails and enables the HR to make payroll payments as it has the capability of handling multiple assignments. The Oracle Human Resource Management System...

...ITECH 5005 Business Information Systems Tutorial Week 9 Enterprise Resource Planning and Collaboration Systems Case Study 1: Campus ERP 1. Was the move from 20-year-old legacy systems at Stanford necessarily a good idea? Why or why not? It is a good idea because all the data throughout the new Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) will be integrate in all departments and functions throughout the staff and students in Stanford, into a single IT system (or integrated set of IT systems) so that employees and students can make decisions based on the view of the enterprise-wide information in all business operations, semesters subjects, marks, human resources payments and many more. Here in this case all have to make changes according to the system the employees and the students too. 2. In your opinion, did Stanford spend too much time consulting the ERP vendors (Oracle and PeopleSoft) and not enough time consulting their own staff? I think Stanford did spend too much time for vendors, the management paid attention to installing the new ERP administration systems as PeopleSoft HR, Oracle and others but they did not involve the users (employees and students) in selecting the software changing requirements. They have not got the sufficient resources, they do not provide enough training and proper training for their staff, and they have poor quality of communication and cultural differences. Stanford does not implement all of this because of its tight budget and of the desire...
