...Content Review: Week 2 EDUC - 4004 2012 1. Explain why the following terms should not be used interchangeably: impairment, disability, handicap, and at risk. Learning and understanding the related terms of exceptionality helps others to understand the similarities and differences of those with exceptional needs. The terms impairment, disability, handicap, and at risk should not be used interchangeably because the terms have different meanings. Additionally the terms refer to different types of individuals with or without exceptional learning needs. For example, the term impairment refers to the loss or reduced function of a particular body part or limb (Heward, 2009). Such as a soldier who may has a missing limb due to the current war or a child losing their leg after an accident. Handicap is a term that refers to a problem or disadvantage that a person with a disability or impairment encounters when interacting with the environment (2009). Children who may not have an identified disability but have a greater chance of developing a disability are considered at risk (2009). When an educator apply this term to infants, preschoolers, and young school age children because of biological, the home environment, or developmental problems. 2. Explain how each of the six major principles of IDEA will guide your thinking about working with young children as a child development professional. Health is defined by The World Health Organization (WHO) as a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity (WHO Constitution).Based on this definition there are many things to consider that may affect one’s health. With respect to behavior, the Centers for Disease and Control state there are six behaviors that affect a person’s health of which most are under the individuals control and include: alcohol and drug use, smoking, injury and violence, physical activity and sexual risk. ...BLAW 3430.009 4/6/15 Ethics Assignment #2 Q1: What did these videos tell you about selective attention? Selective attention can apply to a lot of situations. It can mean that in a video while focusing so much on one part the person watching misses another part. It could be focusing on a particular object for an amount of time while simultaneously ignoring other relevant or irrelevant information that is also occurring. While the first video I did notice the gorilla in the mix, the only reason why is because I took my eyes off the ball which then lead to me miscounting the amount of passes. The second video about the experiment with the pedestrian and the door was very interesting. I think if I were focusing my my thoughts on directions to explain to someone, I too would fail to see the differences in the two experimenters. I think these videos show how most humans are very selective in what they are taking in around them. Maybe it’s true what our parents say when we were young, “she has selective hearing, she only hears what she wants to.” Q2: Would you agree that if you have your ethical antennae up that you will be more likely to detect an ethical issue you face than if you are focusing completely on pleasing your boss, being part of your team, or perhaps meeting a production quota? What does that tell you about how you have to approach your job if you wish to be a moral/ethical person? In today’s business world, it is very important to not only be knowledgable of what...

...Fret Unit 1 Assn 1 Breaking down the broken-window policing is the concept,"If a window is broken and left unrepaired, people walking by will conclude that no one cares and no one is in charge.", This is like growing up in my neighborhood, in which they placed a police chapter. Teenagers were recruited to be like little deputies, basically to interact with the police. This basically convinced the community that we are all in it together to solve the problem of crime. In New York City it all started with Mr. Bratton who thought that crime could be tame. He indentified where crime was taking place and held local commanders responsible for their areas. It took tactical planning and accountability system. What set the stage for this process to work was Mayor David Dinkins, who won a tax increase to hire 7,000 additional police officers. The stop, question and frisk are an extension of the broken window theory that stated back in the 1980’s. Community scope should focus on the problem that affects the community, and talk to local officials, business leaders to built a brighter future for there community. Lack of community resources presents a challenge for communities. Deficient financial resources to deal with problems, forces community teams to rely on volunteers to carry out community base activities. Relationship between government and urban communities presents problem for community teams. The connection between government and community are damage by the community perception...

...Human Service Manager Exercise Paper Managing people is almost as old as the history of mankind, since it appeared simultaneously with the appearance of the first forms of human organizations, tribes, communities, clans. As economic development and the emergence of large organizations, personnel management has become a special control function that requires specialized knowledge and skills, the organizations have established special units composed of people with the knowledge and skills – human resources departments. With the development of scientific and technological progress and increasing complexity of organizations in the second half of the twentieth century, the functions of these departments have expanded – administration of benefits and maintenance of relations with trade unions, supplemented by recruitment, training and staff development, the establishment of compensation systems, career development, communication, and significantly increased their importance for organization. Specific responsibility for the overall management of human resources in large organizations is usually entrusted to workers from trained personnel department, usually consisting of staff services. In order for such specialists to be actively promoting the purposes of cooperation and success, they need not only knowledge and expertise in their particular field, but information that satisfies the needs of lower-level managers.
