Nearly 13,000 lives are claimed each year by Astrocytoma. Astrocytoma is a very fatal tumorous cancer that attacks the Cerebellum, Cerebrum, Brainstem, and central parts of the brain. It also can invade parts the nervous system, and parts of the spinal cord. This cancer comes from astrocytes, which forms the supportive tissue of the brain. Astrocytes are microscopic star shaped cells that make up one of the many foundations of the brain. Primary brain tumors are formed when there are mutations that occur in the normal cells of the brain. An Astrocytoma is labeled as a primary brain tumor. Brain tumors are the leading cause of cancer- related deaths in children 14 years old and younger, and the second leading cause of cancer- related deaths in victims 20 years old or younger according to …show more content…
Also, it only makes up 2% of all cancer deaths recorded worldwide. 55% of victims diagnosed with Astrocytoma are men, and the other 45% are women. Out of all of the brain and nervous system tumors diagnosed each year, 19,000 of them are an Astrocytoma tumor. Scientists and doctors to this day do not know where the failures are located in the cell cycle. There are some factors that can increase your chance of developing an Astrocytoma. These factors consist of your age, your family history, and overexposure to radiation. Age is one factor because the risk of developing a primary brain tumor increases as you grow older, but some brain tumors only grow specifically in children. Only a small portion of diagnosed primary brain tumors are developed due to your family's history. Exposure to radiation can come from chemotherapy or can even come from exposure to radioactive related incidents or accidents. Based solely on of my research I have found that preventing an Astrocytoma can be very difficult, and many factors are out of your

The article provides several interventions and mitigating strategies an individual can take to manage risk of cancer due to a lack of exercise and heathy diet. Cancer War Persuasive Essay

...and 59% for stroke and heart disease respectively while it has been static for cancer with no decrease in death rates inspite of extensive research and treatment efforts. This suggests that something is wrong about cancer treatment. The term “Five year survival rate” hides within it our sad story of not being able to find a permanent cure to cancer. Chemotherapy, radiotherapy, surgery are not curative but symptomatic therapies merely extending our lives. Our scientists inspite of doing researches involving billions of money and publishing an amazing 1.5 million papers have not found a cure to cancer. We have been only able to increase the five year survival rates from 48.75 % in 1975 to 69% in 2007, pointing to us that there is something wrong. Radiotherapy and chemotherapy increases risk of leukemias and solid tumors, targeted therapy to melanoma and stem cell transplant can result in second cancers. The irony of cancer treatment causing cancers and the unending list of severe side effects from vomiting, alopecia to infertility and immunocompromised state gives a sickening feeling about the cancer management we are following. 90% of the time the cause of death in cancer is metastases. We don’t have any weaponry to attack them except palliative pain treatment. Its not even in our priority list with only less than 0.5% of research projects on metastases. Not targeting the biggest monster i.e. metastases makes me feel wrong about our current cancer management. Running...
