Athletes: A Career Analysis

I am a young energetic individual who is hungry for knowledge in the area of weight lifting and bio mechanics so that I can teach that knowledge to athletes who are willing to work to be better at their sport. That being said my number one career goal is to make an impact in athletes lives to help them not only become better weight lifters and athletes but better all-around people. After graduating from the Exercise Science department here at Campbell I plan on going to physical therapy school to really hone in my knowledge of the human body and the way it moves and works so that I can correctly identify improper movement mechanics and address to the athletes how to fix these problems. I believe that I am on the right track to hitting my goals …show more content…
To me that would mean putting a workout on the board and sitting back and telling the athletes to workout at their own pace and if they don’t finish the workout or if they skip reps and sets that it is on them. That style is not making anyone better. So that leaves with the cooperative and command style coaching and I think it really depends on what kind of athletes I would be training and what type of setting. For example if I own a private gym and I have a group of middle school athletes come to me for training I would be a command style coach because more than likely that have never trained before in a weight room. I would need to teach them proper techniques and movement patterns. I would need to be with them every step of the training session and instill in them a good work ethic and motivate them. It would be the same if I were coaching at a high school where I would have a class or a whole team come in and train. It would be very structured with me blowing the whistle for every set making sure everyone is performing the lifts with the proper weight and technique and also making sure they get all their sets and reps in. On the other side of things back in a private gym setting if I had smaller groups of higher level athletes such as high school, college or even power lifters and Olympic lifters who already know how to work hard with good technique I would definitely be a little more laid back. I wouldn’t have to worry about them skipping parts of their workout but I would still be with them and guiding them as I saw fit. Which would mean giving them a plan and pushing them to their limits if I saw them getting tired. Every athlete I train will have goals, short term and long term and it is up to them to hit those goals. I will help advise those goals if I think they are a little extreme or too small as to keep my athletes in a positive mindset. To keep things fun I

People expect athletes to be professionals throughout his or her career, but fail to realize that athletes are still humans. Mistakes have been made, just like the rest of society. Randy Roberts wrote a book called “A Team for America, The Army-Navy Game That Rallied a Nation” (Roberts, 2012). In the book he discusses how a few good men from the Army-Navy stopped fighting during World War II in 1944 just to play a rivalry game of football. People from over the world tuned in as the Navy, ranked number two battled it out on the field against the Army for the number one spot. War was raging around the world in places like Africa, Europe, and the Pacific, people at home had just had Thanksgiving with no turkey, not to mention the lives lost just a day before because of the Great War raging around the world. Deceitfulness of Division 1 Ncaa Athletic Regulations

...listener to agree with me no matter what angle I decided to go with. Thesis: Taxes on individuals making over $250,000 should be increased so that the middle and lower class can pay less and relieve that burden from them, besides the upper class has a surplus of funds that they never use so it’s not the end of the world for them to pay a bit more. My second topic is “Should regulations regarding payment of college athletes be changed?” This is a very popular topic among college students and sports analysis. I choose this topics because this is truly something I believe should go into effect. College athletes are exploited for their talents, everyone says they are getting a free education, but in reality most athletes are not in school for academics, there in school in hopes of playing professional sports. Thesis, “regulations should be changed regarding payment of college athletes, due to the fact that the university is making big money off the players, the players are putting their careers in jeopardy from career ending injuries, and lastly it would give the student athletes an added incentive to stay in school longer.” The final topic I choose to write about is “Should sex offenders laws be changed?” This topic affects anyone with family friends or children. This is a very sensitive topic that I as a father have a great deal of interest in. Sex offender laws are not strict enough for my liking. Thesis, Sex offenders laws should be changed, so that they increase visibility allowing...

College Athletes Should Not Be Paid Essay

...NCAA(National Collegiate Athletic Association) is not paying college athletes, which will become a problem sooner or later if the NCAA does not pay college athletes. Many people think that paying college athletes will bring some problems to universities/colleges, such as offering players more money. However it would be unfair for less appealing and wealthy schools because they do not have as much power or money to recruit the best players. Though people do not understand that college football is for stronger players compared to weaker ones. If the players are dedicated to playing for their future, then paying college athletes would prepare them for the NFL(National Football League) and the players who don’t make it still help their team get better. Although most players in college do not make it to the NFL, every player on their teams help win and helps other players get better so everyone should receive a piece of the action....

Drugs in Sports

...school, college, and professional sports. High school athletes' are using enhancement drugs so that they may receive a college scholarship, collegiate athletes' are using drugs so that they make it to the professional level, and professional athletes' are using drugs to make sure that they stay among the elite. Drug use in athletics have led to suspensions of players, athletes being banned from that particular sport, and ultimately death. There are many reasons for using drugs in sports, with performance enhancement being one of the top reasons, but no one will ever understand why athletes risk their career and lives. A concern for the public is the fact that athletes assume these risks just to be among the top competitors of sports. Drugs are a danger to the health of athletes. Drug use to enhance performance is unethical, and using drugs is illegal in today's society. Drugs in sports is unethical because the focus of winning and succeeding overshadows the real reasons for playing sports such as the love for a sport, natural talent and ability, and hard work to be among the elite. Athletes are thinking about winning, gaining more income, and quick gains when it comes to sports; and doing what it takes to get to the next level. Ultimately the athletes are not thinking about the long run. Athletes fail to realize that they can jeopardize their entire career and everything that they have worked for on one short term goal. Athletes are often influenced to use drugs by peers, coaches...

College Athletes Should Be Compensated

...College Athletes Should Be Compensated For many colleges and universities athletics programs are a major source of revenue for its institutions. These institutions rely on their athletes to keep the notoriety and popularity of their institutions name. Since, college’s athletes are supposed to be the best at the sports they play, why are they not being compensated? Some might say a student athlete’s scholarship for a free education is compensation enough. However, there are some that say the amount of money institutions make from its athletes is so great that student athletes should be given a kickback. Student athletes should be compensated for the time and performance they give to help their college and universities uphold their reputations. Certainly, both sides of this debate have made very compelling arguments in support of their views. There are those who believe that college athletes should be compensated somehow or be given a stipend for extra money to cover the costs or living that are not provided with their scholarships (Nocera No pg.). Most college scholarships fall on average about $3,500 short of the total cost of attending college each year (Nocera No pg.). Many student athletes come from low-income families and rely heavily on athletic scholarships to get them into a quality school (Burgett No pg.). Although student athletes are given a full scholarship to their school of choice these scholarships do not provide the money necessary for entertainment, travel expenses...

Lebron vs. Jordan

...Michael Jordan is considered to be the most iconic person in sports history. Throughout his professional career Jordan built the blueprint to which all elite sports figures are critiqued. In 2002, a young man named Lebron James made headlines as he received the hype of being the next Michael Jordan. After Lebron's first seven seasons in the NBA, the similarities to Michael Jordan are striking, but a viable case could be made that the two basketball superstars are completely different as well. One way in which the two are similar is exposed through statistical analysis. In Lebron James' first seven seasons in the NBA he has accumulated a 27.8 point per game average along with seven rebounds per game, and seven assists per game. When evaluating Michael Jordan's first seven seasons as a pro, we find that he averaged 31.1 points per game along with 6.2 rebounds and 6.1 assists. Overlooking minor discrepancies these numbers are strikingly similar, but we are forgetting the most important statistic in professional sports. The number of championships acquired. In Michael Jordan's first seven years he led his team to one championship in comparison to Lebron James' zero . Though the difference is small, it means everything in the world of professional sports. Another blatant difference between the two icons is the level of media savvy that they each possess. Stemming from his college days, Michael Jordan always had the media eating out of his palm. While many celebrities point their...

...Chapter 2 The Effect of Athlete Endorsers on Consumer Purchase Decision of Teenagers for Non–Sporty Products Chua-Lao, Peterlao F. Cristobal, Michelle Ann Manlangit, Stephen John 3AMC Chapter 2 Introduction Nowadays, the utilization of celebrity-athletes on endorsements are very much common. Everyone is aware of the fact that numerous athletes are being contacted by various companies to co-present their products; whether it may be a sports or a non-sports brand product or services. But what we do not know is the concept of how much of an impact the celebrity-athlete impact gives to the audience. It is explained in this part the difference between an athlete’s endorsement on sports brand and an athlete’s endorsement on non-sports brand. It is also stated in this chapter the effects of the two, of what is being perceived by consumers and how they are going to respond based on attitude. Athlete endorsement One of the most common approaches to increase sales is the use of athlete endorsers as to continuously remind them of the product (Ruihley, 2010). According to a study, for an endorsement to be effective, the chosen athlete endorser must be amid the leading performers of his or her career and must seem to have a reliable attitude to the purchasers. (Ruihley, 2010). In a consumer’s point of view, in promotions, it is more engaging and consistent when a celebrity is being used as the endorser; as this forms brand image. (Sertoglu, 2014) But still, efficiency of...

Concussions: an Analytical Discussion

...Discussion “I had no idea what a nickel was (Kevin Kolb, The Concussion Blog).” NFL quarterback Kevin Kolb has suffered three major concussions since 2010 (Galliford, Buffalorumblings). His most recent one just this past August effectively ended his football career. This is just one example of the many in which multiple or severe concussions have cut short careers in sports. The issue of player safety in sport has become a topic of controversy and debate in recent years. Many professional leagues such as the NFL and the NHL have adopted strict concussion test protocols and procedures for its players. Player safety has no doubt become a major concern in contact sports. The problem is, many of these regulations have yet to address what happens after playing careers are over. What happens to former players’ mental and physical health after they retire? How do players whom have suffered multiple concussions playing contact sports live their lives as opposed to players whom have played non-contact sports such as golf or baseball? What will be questioned in this analysis is do known players that have suffered multiple and/or severe concussions throughout their playing careers due to playing a contact sport develop abnormally high levels of mental and physical health problems at an early age? Previous history on the attempts to lower the frequency of severe injury and concussions have shown advances in equipment and medicine. In the middle of...

In the ACC and the Pac-12 conferences, total reported scholarship costs averaged only 5.6 percent and 7.3 percent of the school’s football and basketball revenues. In “Indentured: The Inside Story of the Rebellion Against the NCAA” Joe Nocera and Ben Strauss quote a wide range of economists and attorneys who agree that the NCAA functions as an economic cartel by colluding to artificially suppress wages for workers. ...Athletic Trainer Who helps the world's greatest athletes recover from their injuries? Who is responsible for Alex Morgan's triumphant return? The answer to both of those questions is an athletic trainer. Athletic trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians; to administer preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Without athletic trainers several of the world's greatest players would not have been able to continue their careers after injuries.
