...Review of Religions of Atlanta – Religious Diversity in the Centennial Olympic City This nonfiction book was edited by Gary Laderman, a professor of theology at Emory University. Each chapter is written by a different author or authors. The book was published in 1996 by Scholars Press in Atlanta, Georgia. The book is a composition of essays by various authors on the history, growth and impact of the selected religions present in the city of Atlanta at the time of publication in 1996. The introduction to the book was written by the editor, Gary Laderman, and includes a well written and interesting historical perspective on the origins of the city of Atlanta and the initial growth of a few of the religions present in the population from the beginning. Laderman also touches briefly on the history of African Americans and the civil rights movement in the area and mentions more than once that Atlanta was known over the early years as the “the city too busy to hate”. (Laderman 1996). He feels that this general attitude is what helped develop the face of the religious communities of Atlanta today. Laderman then introduces the twenty one essays which follow in the book as providing a broad and diverse perspective on some, not all, of the religious communities that make up Atlanta and the area around Atlanta. He states that “Instead of providing readers with authoritative account of each community, the contributors explore some of the concerns, commitments, and motivations...

...1936, the wife of a NBC executive was murdered and the killer caught partly due to fibers from twine used to bind her during the murder. Ted Bundy was convicted of the murder of a 12-year old girl partly due to fibers found in his van. The trial of Wayne Williams, also based on fiber evidence, differed from other cases in several significant ways. From July 1979 to May 1981, thirty black children and young men were reported missing or found dead in the area of Atlanta, Georgia. The Georgia State Crime Lab found yellow-green nylon fibers and violet acetate fibers on the bodies and clothing of victims. The fibers from the different victims were generally similar to each other, linking them to a single source and tying them to one killer. The Wayne Williams case was the first time fiber evidence played a significant role in a case involving a large number of murder victims. An Atlanta newspaper wrote an article about several different fibers being located on the bodies. After the article, bodies located in the Atlanta area rivers were nude or clothed only in underwear. The release of the information caused a change in the way the suspect disposed of bodies, in an apparent effort to eliminate fiber evidence. Media attention appeared to result in a change in pattern of the suspect. Media attention on the murders and the Williams trial was unique due to the amount and detail of the coverage. After Williams was discovered on a Chattahoochee River bridge, police ultimately discovered...

...John Randolph an advocate for environmentally conscious land use, sprawl is “land-consumptive, dispersed, auto-dependent land development made up of homogeneous segregated uses: housing subdivisions, shopping centers, office/business arks, large civic institutions, and roadways heavily dependent on collector roads (37)” Sprawl is a term which, in the urban planning vernacular, is used to criticize suburban community’s lack of planning which results in auto-centric residents and inefficient and hazardous land usage. Characteristically, sprawl happens when a large population relocates from the city core to the suburbs. The perfect example of how sprawl is happening in America is Atlanta, Georgia. ...BACKGROUND Delta Air Lines is a major United States airline headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, in the United States. The airline's hub at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the world's busiest airport by passenger traffic (88 million passengers per year) and number of landings and takeoffs. Delta is the 3rd largest and the oldest airline still operating in the United States. Between 2001 and 2005, Delta airlines lost $10 billion. The firm’s cash assets had significantly fallen short of its debt obligation, which stood at $14 billion. Standard and Poor’s (S&P) placed Delta’s debt ratings on “credit-watch” with negative implications, citing critical liquidity problems. The leaders of Delta Air Lines’ pilot union had alerted their members that the firm might have to file for bankruptcy protection under chapter 11 of the American Bankruptcy Code. In a bit to increase the liquidity, Delta sold its subsidiary (Atlantic Southwest Airlines) to SkyWest Airline for $425 million in August 2005. At the time of the sale, Delta was also experiencing a major operational crisis. As Delta was struggling to pull together its restructuring plan to survive, many analysts believed that the airline was under an increasing risk of bankruptcy. However, Delta continue to grow throughout mergers and acquisitions as below: - In 1972, it merged with Northeast Airlines - In 1984, Delta expanded its reach in the domestic U.S market with its Delta Connection Program. ...Community Windshield Survey Susan Holcomb Community Health Nursing NR443 Chamberlain College of Nursing January 19, 2014 Community Windshield Survey The community I have chosen is Douglasville, Georgia which is about 20 miles west of Atlanta, Georgia and is located inside the Atlanta Metropolitan area. While driving through the community, it seems to be like most other communities in that you can be driving through a beautiful neighborhood and two streets over you can end up in the poverty stricken area where there are drug houses. Douglasville is a very family friendly city. There are lots of young families, middle aged families and a fair amount of young Grandparents who are primary care givers for their grand kids. It is predominately white at 83% with 13% being of African American decent and other races at 4%. Most of the people and families that I was able to see driving through the community were clean and seemed well kept up. Some appeared to be well nourished; some overweight and some appeared to be fit. During the evening survey, I noticed the night life of downtown Douglasville – there were a couple of sports bars in the area with mostly males drinking. It did not appear to be unruly but it was loud. The homes in the community are of a variety. Some neighborhoods, the houses are set far apart, some neighborhoods they were too close to each other; however, this was on purpose. The houses were mostly well maintained; however, there were some areas...
