Pick a company or industry. Choose a potential area of improvement for this company or industry. My choice of industry is the amusement park industry Potential area for improvement: Safety standards across the nation for rides
Discuss two benchmark companies or industries you would use for this company or industry.
Two companies within this industry that can be evaluated for benchmarking are The Walt Disney Company and The Six Flags Entertainment Corporation. These two companies utilize well known cartoon characters in their parks to attract families and they utilize many styles of rides to meet the desires of their visitors no matter their age.
Select a benchmark in a like company or industry.
In any amusement park it is important to place safety above all else. Across the United States, there is a lack of consistency in the safety standards placed on amusement parks for the safety of their rides. Another amusement park that can be added to the benchmark evaluation process is the Cedar Fair Entertainment Company. The amusement parks owned by this company also have several varieties of rides for their visitors to choose from based on thrill level desired.
Select a benchmark company or industry that does not participate in the same type of business.
The Busch Gardens Company has both amusement park and animal parks. One example is Sea World in California, this park has animal shows and places to feed and touch the ocean animals, it also has a couple of rides. Their main focus for their visitors is their education and understanding of sea creatures and their preservation more than the rides.
Why would you choose these companies or industry?
The amusement park industry does not have consistency in the safety regulations across the United States. Some of the states have regulating bodies that evaluate the

Attracting and Retaining Talent in Corporate America

...Attracting and Retaining Talent in Corporate America GB 540: Macroeconomics Randy Worthy Graduate Student February 8, 2011 “….companies were increasingly dependent on the knowledge worker..the new worker who worked not primarily physically with his body doing physical labor, but with his mind…all workers were of significant actual and potential value to the firm…labor was not an expense; labor was added value, a resource, potentially the greatest resource that an organization possessed” William A. Cohen, Ph.D. One of the most difficult challenges that employers are currently facing is finding excellent and talented employees to work for their companies. For one, resume falsifications has become notoriously rampant in the employment world. Moreover, it is now hard to find people with integrity, people whom you can have absolute trust in. You may be very cautious with your hiring process but you will still sometimes end up with employees that give you nothing but bouts of headaches which creates employee discontent and morale issues. To help you attract and retain good employees and repel bad ones, the organization should have in place the following characteristics: a. solid reputation; b. provide clear job objectives; c. present challenges and learning opportunities; d...

To Choose or Not to Choose

...details. With a bit of luck they will agree and then with much anticipation, you wait and prepare for the event. How you initially meet a person will vary; it could be someone from your social circle, someone you meet by chance or even someone you have conversed with online. In every scenario, someone has caught your attention and you decide to put yourself “on the line” and ask them out. Not so in an arranged date. One strong advantage to the “arranged” or “blind date” is there is little to no “pre-date” effort on your part because the work is done for you by a third party. There is no chance that you may be turned down or have your pride hurt, because the date itself is a sure thing. Consequently, there is also no guarantee of any attraction on your part. You have no idea if any chemistry will exist, if you will have anything in common, and you must rely on someone else to know you very well. The date itself presents another set of issues. I find in a date of my own choosing there has usually been some previous conversation and therefore the “first date” discussion has the potential to be much more relaxed. Commonalities have been established and the initial...

Creating a Local Business

...Creating A Business When thinking about Kingsville and all it has to offer it is easy to see it’s a primary target area for sportsmen. Twenty miles south is Baffin Bay Hallowed waters for trophy trout and redfish. Three of the past four state record speckled trout came out of Baffin Bay’s hyper saline waters. Making it a bucket-list destination for sport fisherman around the world. Kingsville is also home to the most famous hunting ranch in the world, The King Ranch. These two outdoorsman paradises make Kingsville a year-around attraction for everyone from hard-earned dignitaries to blue collar families spending their hard-earned vacation time. There is one thing Kingsville does not have to support this year-round attraction; an outdoor super store to supply all the necessities one may need to enjoy their hunting and fishing needs. Kingsville offers everything a sportsman could dream of but they need a place for that sportsman to buy the products they need to chase that dream. A store that sells quality hunting, fishing, birding, and outdoor equipment would be extremely profitable to the storeowner and the community. The store could offer products like fishing gear such as rods, reels, tackle, and bait; hunting gear that included guns, shells, decoys, camo, and feeders; feed for deer, livestock, fish; ATV’s such as 4-wheelers; and apparel. They could also sell snacks, drinks, and ice. When it comes to the staff they could hire college students who are dedicating their...

Milk

...Jacob Jones PSY 290 Milk Ads The ad I chose is one of the most successful Got Milk? Line of advertising, this provides several options for the designers to play with, in conjunction with the layouts and therein, their connotation. Featuring Aerosmith's Steve Tyler, the ad is a picture window with a relatively humorous connotation. The slang copy with unfinished words such as "growing'’ reflect the laid-back attitude exhibited by the star, and is meant to refer to younger audiences who speak the same kind of dialect. Her sitting position also exhibits how the jeans claim to stretch, as she looks comfortable and laid-back in bare feet. Her young yet mature age is also relevant to the audience, being that the magazine is aimed at an audience of women in their late teens and twenties. The physical positioning of Tyler's hands draw the viewer's attention inwards towards the milk mustache and his also famous kisser. The advertisement industry is a clever one, with several tricks to catch and simultaneously fool the eye, all the while achieving the overall previously mentioned effect. This forces the reader to look twice, to discern the sex of the featured model, and also to return to confirm the familiarity of the specific face. Following our current path, we return back down the other side of the leg to the waist of the jeans, where we see the woman's bellybutton is pierced, meaning to emphasize just how low the jeans truly are. Because our eyes naturally read...

Driver Shortage

...The growing U.S. economy has exposed a driver shortage among the motor carrier industry. The rise in consumer demand has increased freight volume in the industry. While this is positive news the growth in the industry could be hampered due to a lack of available drivers. According to the American Trucking Associations, the industry’s shortage is close to 35,000 drivers (Carey, 2014). This issue could continue to get worse if nothing is done to combat it. It is estimated by 2020, according to ATA, the motor carrier industry’s driver shortage could grow to 240,000 drivers (McNally, 2014). While many trucking companies are finding ways to attract drivers, such as covering the cost of licensing and signing bonuses, U.S. Xpress is addressing the driver shortage with its own approach to the problem (Carey, 2014). One of the ways U.S. Xpress is handling the driver shortage is to increase the base mile pay (McNally, 2014). This has raised drivers pay by 13 percent (Carey, 2014). While that is a big step to close the shortage gap more is needed to confront the problem. U.S. Xpress, to counter the shortage and attracting drivers, is removing the OTR (over the road) solo driver’s sliding pay scale (McNally, 2014). For OTR drivers, who spend long periods of time out on the road, calculating their base pay from week to week under the sliding pay scale was difficult (McNally, 2014). Now, no matter how long a haul is every OTR solo drivers makes the same base mileage pay (McNally, 2014). U...
