A family structure is usually considered to be made up of a couple (two) people that have offspring that they provide a supportive system too. Traditionally The couple is made of one male and one female and they are married before having one or more offspring, but this day and age family structures are much more flexible and come in all varieties. In most cases alternative family make ups are more common than traditional family structures. In realation to Aboriginal families their family structure is much more complex. Their family structure is centered around the kinship/skin system. Cross-Cultural Management

...Traditional Chinese Culture This reflective report will attempt to compare and contrast between Traditional Australian Aboriginal Culture and Traditional Chinese Culture. Ferraro & Briody (2013) defines culture as the shared perceptions among group of two or more people, their beliefs, values and behavioural patterns, which ultimately shape their way of life. I will analyse the two cultures around Hodstede’s cultural dimensions, Collectivism. Collectivism determines the degree of close-knit characteristic of the group (Hofstede n.d.). The insight this framework provides could be use as a guide in managing organisations’ and nationals’ cultural difference. The traditional Chinese live off small area of land, mainly used for cultivation of rice. In order to maximise yield, seeding and harvesting period are heavily depends on friends and relatives to help get the job done (Gladwell 2008). This interdependent behaviour is found not only at the family level but also at community level. Chinese society follows the teaching of Confucius, which promotes interdependence and social harmony (Chuang & Su 2009). To avoid potential social conflicts and encourages cohesiveness, Chinese are more likely to compromise their own needs and coordinate their behaviour with the situation (Nisbatt & Masuda 2003). It is common for Chinese to live with their married son. Family structure becomes more complex and extended as wealth accumulates. Accumulated wealth could then house large number of...

Manage Human Resources Strategic Planning

...Unit Title: Manage Human Resources Strategic Planning Read the following case study on “Kangaroo Foundry Castings”. Answer the 5 questions below: Kangaroo Foundry Castings was established by Nav Suderland in the late 1930’s after the Great Depression. His vision was to provide Australian-made iron castings at a time when they were imported from Britain. The Business, based in South Wollongong in New South Wales (NSW), produced casting lamp posts and manhole covers for the sewerage system. It also catered to the needs of the defence forces during the Second World War. Additional contracts also came from government client’s including the NSW railways. The business is now owned and managed by the third generation of the family – two brothers and one of their cousins. This team has been running the business for the past 20 years and make all the decisions. They still do business with the government departments. They have been investing in updating their plant and equipment. A major portion of the business comes from small private manufacturers who need iron casting parts for their products. The transport cost of delivering the raw materials has also gone up and the local government has imposed strict regulations because manufacturing the castings has a direct impact on the environment. Most of the Kangaroo Foundry Casting’s customers are no longer in NSW due to tough competition. The demand for their products has changed. Their customers are now looking for cheaper...

Australia as a Classless Society

...“Australia is a Classless Society” Discuss. It is this ideal that has in fact attracted many migrants to Australia over the course of its history. This essay will discuss some of the theories and definitions of class, then examine how they relate to Australian society, and whether Australia does indeed have a class system, arguing that in many ways, it does. It will discuss people’s perception of classes and their position in them, mobility between classes, and the impact of class on health, education and crime. It will show that there is a direct correlation between class and the level of crime, the health of an individual and the level of education attained. At its federation in 1901 the new nation of Australia was founded on principles of equality, although as Belinda Probert points out in her lecture ‘Class in 2001’, (Probert, 2001) this equality did not extend to women, Aborigines or people from non Anglo races. This egalitarian belief was founded on the notion of a fair and decent wage, an ideal proposed by Justice Higgins of the Commonwealth Court of Conciliation and Arbitration in 1907, when he set the first minimum weekly wage. This wage 1 was to reflect the cost of living, the amount of money required by an average person for the basic necessities of life; food and water, housing and clothing. This was called the Harvester Judgment. What is class? It is a division in society of a group of people who all have a similar social and economic status. For Karl Marx this...

...Australia and New Zealand: Doing business with Indonesia SECTION 1 CULTURAL DIFFERENCES Numerous Australian and New Zealand organisations are looking for business opportunities in Asian nations as Asian nations are in developing stage and they offer limitless business chances to officially created countries. Here, we are going to examine the business development of Australian and New Zealand associations in Indonesia. To start a business in a foreign country, it is crucial to understand the culture, social, customs and language of the country to be successful (Morrison & Conoway, 2006). Culture Hofsetede has sorted social contrasts into three wide classifications i.e. National society, Business Culture and Organizational society. National society delineates the political and social limits of the country. Business society includes rules, regulations, qualities and convictions of working together in a specific society (Deresky & Christopher, 2012). National Culture measurements are as per the following: 1. Power Distance 2. Independence/Individualism versus Collectivism 3. Manliness versus Femininity 4. Vulnerability/Uncertainty Avoidance 5. Long term Orientation 6. Indulgence (Kullen & Parboteeah, 2014). The visual chart joined in Appendix 1 indicates how these three nations vary from each other on the premise of aforementioned measurements. Indonesia is at high power separation as contrast with other two nations which implies more reliance...

Social Changes In Divorce

...A major change that has occurred in the Western family is an increased incidence in divorce. Whereas in the past, divorce was a relatively rare occurrence, in recent times it has become quite commonplace. This change is borne out clearly in census figures. For example thirty years ago in Australia, only one marriage in ten ended in divorce; nowadays the figure is more than one in three (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 1996: p.45). A consequence of this change has been a substantial increase in the number of single parent families and the attendant problems that this brings (Kilmartin, 1997). An important issue for sociologists, and indeed for all of society, is why these changes in marital patterns have occurred. In this essay I will seek...

...different country’s market are totally different, even on the same product, in this assignment we will analyze the consumer behavior in Korean market and Australian market through different advertisements preference, reference groups, the nature of families, the family life circle, and the socialization of family members. Different advertisements perferences With the rapidly development of new information technology, the competition between companies became more and more intense, great companies use genius ideas in their advertisements aim to capture more audiences to purchase their products and small companies use advertisements to promote their products to enable them survive in the high competition while there were already hundreds of ‘substitutes’ in the market nowadays. As all companies use advertisements, the situation in Korean advertisement industries and Australian advertisement industries are totally different when sometimes objective, factual appeals are more effective in persuading a target audience, and sometimes emotional appeals are more effective. (Schiffman,2011), however ,in Korea advertisers never put fear appeal into their ads ,even the product will destroy people’s health like cigarettes or alcohols and they do not like to use sex appeal either, this may because Asian people are more introversion than Australians, when they saw some of ‘hot’ sex appeals, they would feel shy which may lead them forget the main information marketers wanted to send through the...
