As a kid, big accomplishments will be hard to reach, especially because of higher authority. It can be difficult to overcome moving from home as a kid and making something that can be a reminder of home can really help. Authority is a tough power to overcome and people do not always win. Author Borden Deal looks at How authority can affect kids by explaining how a kid from a rural area, moved to a city and felt out of place. T.J. moves from a farm town into a city and meets a new group of kids. The kids show him there hang out place on top of a factory. Different places have different customs, so when T.J. tells his new friends his name they are confused because his name is just initials. He tells them that that is his name and “that's all the name [he] got. His voice resolute with the knowledge of his rightness and for a moment no one had anything to say” (Deal 100). The way he says this shows how he is different, people in Alabama, like T.J., have different names from people in different places such as the north. He talks different from everyone and acts different. They grow to like him being different after talking for a bit and decide to let him hang out with them. They all ask him questions and T.J. starts talking about his crops back in Alabama. He tells them about his corn crops and his cotton crops and how he had an acre of each and they think it is weird that anyone would want to have their own acre of corn or
