D1: I will be evaluating the distance travelled in achieving the planned objectives of the career plan.
The research I have done in this unit to maintain my progress towards my career plan has supported me throughout which was to become a ‘Business Administrator’. I have carried out vital research and received help from my career advisor which also helped me alot. I also produced a skills Audit for my career plan and spoke about skills that I needed to develop and achieve and activities that would help me expand this skill. To track my progress I set myself achievable targets. As an individual, setting targets is really important when it comes to career plan. The reason why setting target is very significant is because firstly setting goals is a fundamental component to long-term success. Therefore the importance of setting targets is that it allows the individual to measure their progress, because you always have a fixed endpoint or benchmark to compare with. Also by setting targets, this is a key to motivation too and helps you stay focused and achieve the targets.
I set myself few targets that I needed to achieve to progress towards my career plan, one notable progress I have made in achieving my targets was my presentational skills, The progress I made to achieve was doing a presentation In front of the teacher and in front of the whole class. This way my confidence and self-esteem increased. However, one of the difficulties I encountered was when I was presenting my presentation I was really nervous and kept on staring at the paper to overcome this I would look at my class and talk to them instead of staring at the paper.
Another skill that I progressed in was my communication skills; my listening and verbal skills were very weak by achieving towards my progress I practised online tutorials on how to be a confident speaker, also I always sat in front of the

Wide Awake

...Zina Mekhaiel English 100 February 15th, 2014 Wide Awake by Katy Perry Many artists use in their songs literary devices to give a certain mood or setting. In Katy Perry’s song Wide Awake, she verbalizes and portrays these devices to express her song in a personal and emotional way knowing that many people face these situations everyday in life. Katy Perry describes her Wide Awake song as a "dose of reality" and she admits that the song deals with much more negative emotions than many of her previous single releases. The song was written specifically as part of the soundtrack for Katy's concert movie: Part Of ME. In the song Wide Awake, Katy Perry uses repetition, imagery and allusion to explain how an event can cause a person to change perspective. First, Katy Perry uses repetition to create the mood in her song Wide Awake. In the beginning, she repeats “I’m wide awake” three times meaning that she has come to realize the mistakes she had made by falling in love with the wrong person and she’s fully aware of these mistakes. She also uses repetition in the pre-chorus “I wish I knew then what I know now. Wouldn’t dive in, wouldn’t bow down. Gravity hurts, you made it so sweet. Till I woke up on, on the concrete.” Here she expresses regret and she wishes that she knew this was going to happen so she doesn’t fall for him and avoid this heartache. She also symbolizes how gravity pulls us down and hurt us when falling, with waking up on the cold concrete by realizing the cold harsh...

Awake of the Civil War

...In the wake of the Civil War, Congress acceded to pressure to have the federal government intercede to secure African Americans' rights.  What were some of the long-range effects of that government posture? The Union Victory in the Civil War in 1865 granted freedom to approximately 4 million slaves, however, the process of rebuilding the South during the Reconstruction period 1865-1877 brought a lot of challenges. In 1865 and 1866 under the supervision of President Andrew Johnson, new Southern state legislatives passed the “black codes” to control the labor and behavior of former slaves and other African Americans. During the Radical Reconstruction in 1869, new enfranchised blacks had a voice in the government for the first time in American history, winning election southern state legislatives, including U.S. Congress. However, forces like Ku Klux Klan reversed changes brought by Radical Reconstruction in a violent reaction that restored white supremacy in the South. In 1865, President Andrew Johnson announced his plans for Reconstruction. According to him, the southern states had never given up their right to govern themselves, and the federal government had no right to determine voting requirements. Under Johnson’s Presidential Reconstruction, all lands that had been confiscated by Union Army would be reverted to their prewar owners. Due to Johnson’s leniency, many southern states in 1865 and 1866 successfully passed laws known as the “black codes,” which were designed...

Bad Science

...Article 1 - Stress can help when studying for exams Telegraph. (2011). Stress can help when studying for exams. Retrieved May 5, 2011, from http://www.telegraph.co.uk/science/science-news/8485121/Stress-can-help-when-studying-for-exams.html This article is based on claims made about students increasing their memory under stress. The claim is supported with the theory that hormones produced under stress cause changes inside the cells of the brain to help memory to be stored more effectively. Hormones such as cortisol and adrenalin make these changes so the genes in the neurones function and increase learning ability. This theory has been backed up by Professor Hans Reul from the University of Bristol who suggests that remembering unpleasant memories is easier than pleasant ones, reasons being the unpleasant memories are due to being hurt or threatened which are based on stress. He stated that “It seems like the stress hormones bind to specific receptors in our brains that enhance the control of the epigenetic mechanisms that are involved in learning and memory.” Dr Reul presented his findings at an annual conference and in the journal Experimental Neurology. He also warned that too much stress may have an opposite effect, when new information isn’t able to be picked. In order to assess the claims made in this article, one of the main point made were that the binding of two hormones cortisol and adrenalin trigger the changes. Adrenaline is mainly responsible for the fight...

Comparing Fahrenheit 451 And Ray Bradbury

...Ella Edwards Ms. McMullin English 10 Honors 29 February 2024 Asleep vs. Awake, Alive, and Living What if someone was to say stop thinking for yourself, stop saying what you want to say, stop looking around and truly live? What would be people's responses? Would they actually stop doing those things, or would they realize that they haven't been living for themselves, thinking for themselves, or using their own voice? These are the questions that no one seems to think of and about. In Fahrenheit 451, no one thinks for themselves, says things they really mean, or truly live. These questions are what people like Francis Bacon, Clint Smith, Michelle Kuo, Karen Swallow Prior, and Ray Bradbury want to help people answer and start doing. To be spiritually and mentally awake and alive we must think and do things ourselves, take time to enjoy the small things, and experience and learn life lessons....

Revolutionary

...and REAL crisis? To me, the real crisis of our time is that we are so self-centered in a materialistic world that we are blinded by the importance of other people and the beauty in the nature of the world and most importantly a Christian lifestyle. We must work to be in touch with reality, connected with nature, and being in a Christ centered membership. As Dr. Frazier states, “The crisis of the crisis is that people don't perceive the crisis.” It is our calling to remain awake through this time and help others remain awake so that together we can make a change. But we must not look at crisis’ as always negative. It is here our crisis’ help us revolve and evolve as people and a society together. Everywhere we look we see people on their phones; at the dinner, in school, while driving, with friends, etc. This is the problem with society. It is like we are just going through the motions of the day meaninglessly. People just want to get through the day but Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in his sermon,“Remaining Awake Through a Great Revolution,” urges us to wake up and not sleep through this crisis of ignoring humanity. In this sermon, King explains that, “No individual can live alone, no nation can live alone, and anyone who feels that he can live alone is sleeping through a revolution”...

René Descartes 'Meditations On First Philosophy'

If we can’t tell if we are awake or dreaming when we are asleep then our perception of the world is misleading. Dreams and Rem Sleep

...Dreaming can help you develop long term memory. The dream experience helps with development of the general mental abilities. Sometimes the things we think about before falling asleep goes into play with our dreams. Alcohol can affect your dream and sleep quality. Most people believe there’s a little meaning behind every dream, especially the death ones. When you think about a kid having a dream you think it’s a fun and adventurous dream but they actually have the same dreams we have. Girls have more disturbing dreams than boys. Dreaming helps the kids adapted to the changes that occur in each stage of growth and development. Some kids experience night terrors, which make the child move, speak, and his or her eyes open but not be fully awake. If your child has night terrors it doesn’t mean anything is wrong with them. Some kids have more nightmares than adults until age 8. The time we spend in our dreams shape how our brain develops and may influence our future actions. The things we experience in our dreams across our life time most definitely influence how we act in the world and in certain environments. In recent times dreams have been connected to the unconscious mind. Dreams seem to be a steady cognitive development that connected to the development of visual imagination. When you think of consciousness you think of being alert and...

Why Do We Sleep

... Do we actually need eight hours of sleep? Or is it a mix of a few reasons? Sleep is defiantly an important function in our bodies or we would not get so tired at night we just can’t stay awake. Our brains have a region devoted to letting us know when to sleep it is our biological clock. It knows when we should be awake and when we should sleep and you cannot change it knows that when the sun comes up its time to be awake and a few hours after dark it is time to sleep. But what does sleep do other than have you lay still and have dreams? Is evolution the reason? Are we safer by not hurting ourselves at night or worse getting preyed upon? That fact is debatable. By not moving around you won’t hurt yourself. And the predators will not find you as easily. But there are other things to worry about. What about natural disasters like fires, floods, tornados, and earth quakes? I would think being conscious would be more helpful with these situations even if you are not moving around. So I think we can rule out the evolutionary trait. Does sleep conserve energy? The answer is yes, but it is only about 110 calories. Compared to someone being awake and not moving around a lot. Also your brain does not shut down during sleep. Some parts actually are more active while we sleep than when we are awake. And we are in no shortage of food so that further disproves that. We could easily just eat more to make that minor calorie saving....

Should School Start Later Research Paper

...Students, have you ever felt really tired in the morning and wish you were back in your warm comfortable bed, well I have. That is why I think that school start times should start later. The reasons why I think we should change the school start time is because of kids mental health, physical health, and for kids ability to stay awake during school or other activities. The first reason we should start school later is because of the kids' mental health. It shows that, “Sleep deprivation increases the likelihood teens will suffer myriad negative consequences, including an inability to concentrate, poor grades, drowsy-driving incidents, and anxiety.” This shows that there will be negative consequences for teenagers if they don’t get enough sleep....

Who Is Marie Elizabeth Lamb's Song Awak The US Maine?

...Who Sank the U.S.S. Maine? Today I am writing about Marie Elizabeth Lamb’s “Awake United States” which was written in New Orleans in 1898. This song was written between the time periods of when the U.S.S. Maine was sunk to when the call to war happened. This song was rushed into printing during this time period because it established the sinking of the Maine and the fighting urge to go to war. The U.S.S. Maine was sent out to the coast of Havana in Cuba after riots had put American interests in harm. While doing so, they managed to hit a mine that was under water and caused the ship to sink. I believe Marie Elizabeth Lamb wrote the song to turn Americans against Spain, gain as much support for war as possible, and promote yellow journalism....

Revised Phil Paper

...Michael Hafner Dr. Samantha Langsdale PHIL 1800 December 2nd, 2015 The Delusion Dilemma Rene Descartes once proposed a tedious accusation about dreaming, and how our senses that we use to perceive what is considered reality should not be trusted fully. In the Meditations on First Philosophy, Descartes attempts to convey the fascinating illusion of always being in a dream without a certain ability to distinguish what is actually reality or what is a dream, or at bare minimum prove that there are no certain marks to prove otherwise. He states, “…as I think about this more carefully, I see plainly that there are never any sure signs by means of which being awake can be distinguished from being asleep. The result is that I begin to feel dazed, and this very feeling only reinforces the notion that I may be asleep” (First Meditation). In my attempts to contrast what Descartes argument was comprised of and what certain illusions made him feel this way about our perception of physical existence. I turned my attention to his famous dream argument originally brought forth in his Mediation on First Philosophy, and will be using different ideologies between a John Locke and Thomas Hobbes, two famous English philosophers who have attempted to refute Rene Descartes’s dream argument by providing useful and insightful situations to further explain against the idea, as well as provide my own insight in concluding that we are not dreaming right now. It should be noted that within the...
