...The movie the Awakenings was interesting to sit through. It was not only a film about mediocre medical breakthroughs but it was a story giving hope to all those who enjoyed it. The Awakening was based on the real life story Oliver Sacks, a British author and case study enthusiast. His work was mainly focused on people with neurological disorders. In the film he is a character known as Malcolm Sayer. In the film, Oliver Sacks works in a psychiatric unit for people with neurological disorders. The patients are basically believed to be immobile. They have troubles speaking well and having their word make sense. They also couldn’t really do anything for themselves. They had a rough time doing just about anything for themselves. Their conditions were similar to that of Parkinson’s disease. The patients were in a state of mental and psychological sleep. So the patients weren’t very aware but the were awake....

... nightmares are thought to be psychosomatic mechanisms to call attention to the issues in our lives (IASD 2013). Main Point: The recurring dream provides less horror to our dreams, and also a deeper mystery. Recurring dreams are those dreams that we have over and over, as if it were a task that we keep trying to complete. In fact, Dr. Angel Morgan writes in the Huffington Post that it may be unfinished issues in our life that cause these types of dreams (Morgan 2014). Although occasionally nightmarish, recurring dreams can also be fascinating and pleasurable, and Dr. Morgan advises us to analyze the parallels between our recurring dreams and our real-life circumstances (Morgan 2014). ...corporation and an alien species Known as the Na’vi, on the latter’s native planet of Pandora. Like most blockbusters a third person shooter tie-in was also released by developer Ubisoft. The video game, James’ Cameron’s AVATAR: The Game, is set two years prior in the form of a prequel. Despite this it does little to expand on the films cannon and instead offers up a similarly tailored adventure that adheres to the basic parameters of the movie, utilising many of the same key moments across a clear and discernible 3 act structure. A cross comparative analysis of the two mediums, utilising Volger’s 12 steps Hero’s Journey demonstrates however how the games at first honours this time honoured journey, being plotted along Volger’s step before discarding them to its own detriment. The similarities in the narrative structure of both the film and the game differ little, particularly across their first act structures. Much like the films protagonist Jake Scully your character avatar, Able Ryder, will similarly find him/herself awakening from cryo after a prolonged journey from earth, leaving the ‘ordinay world’ and answering the ‘call to adventure’ within the exotic forests of Pandora. The hero archetype Jake is a fully realised character from the films introduction, who during the film’s first act quickly traverses Volger’s first two narrative points through a series of cut scenes and narration. There is no vagueness surrounding Jake’s character, the internal polarities...

...Go, Bryan Psychology 1 Professor Travelbee 23, January 2012 Article Review: Freaky Sleep Paralysis: Being Awake in Your Nightmares Did you ever awaken and find yourself unable to move? Perhaps you sensed a presence in your room or a pressure on your chest. I never knew that it was just a sleep paralysis until Professor Travelbee informed us about the Limb paralysis reflex. It is a common disorder that affects millions of people. Most believe it occurs as we are on the edge of REM sleep. The disorder has been connected with such hallucinogenic events such as alien abduction or an evil presence. Sleep paralysis is an inability to move or speak, occasionally accompanied by hallucinations, for up to several minutes upon awakening or just before falling asleep. I have had this about five times in my life, and I truly believe its Demons! It is the scariest thing you will ever experience in your life! The worst time that it happened was when I slept on my living room couch one night, and sometime around 4am I awoke to hearing footsteps getting closer to me. I could open my eyes, but could not move, no matter how hard I tried. Suddenly, I heard a whispering in my left ear could not make out what it was saying. I could only feel its presence, but not see it. My heart was pounding, and I struggled to get up, but could not, and then I felt it holding me down on my chest, I tried to fight it, but it was too strong. Because it was a deep, dark, cold thing, all I knew to do was...

...Sports sponsorship and consumer purchase intention: From the perspective of consumer brand awareness 1.0 Introduction Sports sponsorship has long been crucial sources of funds for sports, literature and art as well as the social events. And after 30 year of development, sponsorship marketing has gradually become a global industry. It is widely acknowledged that sports sponsorship enhances the consumer's perception of a brand via big events. However, the study on to what extent the sports sponsorship would influence consumer purchase intention is rare. This essay is established in the purchase intention of consumers, from which to explore consumer brand awareness, and then analyze the relationship within sports sponsorship and consumer brand awareness and purchase intention. This article will be analyzed from two parts; the author would analyze the consumer's brand attitude in the first part: from the cognition to the emotion, from the action and reaction, aiming at get a better understanding of the relationship between the brand and the consumer. Later in this essay, the author would discuss the influence sports sponsorship marketing might have upon consumption. Brand effect is able to zoom in during the process of sponsorship marketing, however, sports sponsorship motivation has become a key point that consumers value a brand, in the process, the enterprise needs to show the "altruistic" instead of "self-interest"...

...prefer to use when opening a company like Amazon or Apple with 5 experienced people. In addition, critically evaluation of the relevant theories is also analysed. Leadership and Theories Leadership is a process in which one individual influences others towards the achievement of group or organizational goals. Leadership is a social influence and it cannot exist without a leader and followers. Leadership results in the behaviour of the followers that is meaningful and goal-directed in an organized setting. Despite the efforts of a standard definition of leadership, Fred Luthans, mentions in his book Organizational Behaviour (2005), ‘’it [leadership] does remain pretty much of a ‘black box’ or unexplained concept.’’ Leadership also means awakening passion among its followers, to have an ability to transform dreams in to reality. Leadership is an on-going process that persuades people to do right things for better future where one person encourages, inspires and motivates for betterment of society. Leadership encourages people to go on the path they do not want to go but they ought to. In short, leadership deals with ‘influence’. Following are various theoretical approaches of leadership: 1. Great man theory: The individual characteristics of leader are born, not made. 2. Trait theories: Individuals possess certain qualities that make them leaders. It can...

...Plato Paper: Prompt #2 11/3/14 Why does Plato write dialogues? How does that genre fit with and promote his philosophy? Use Examined life to help promote this concept that Plato embodies. ! From what method of teaching can a learner take away a meaningful interpretation of the lesson taught? Upon determining the answer to this question, one might discern between more and less helpful ways to learn. The old Native American saying goes, “Tell me and I'll forget. Show me, and I may not remember. Involve me, and I'll understand”(Inspirational Quotes). This exact idea is embodied by Plato and also by some of the philosophers in The Examined Life. Plato provides examples of stories to help one wrap their brain around a concept due to their own involvement in the learning. The brilliant Plato methodically sends an equally striking and concise impression-making message to both his readers and interlocutors. Unlike Aristotle, who lays down the law of philosophy in absolute non-negotiable terms, Plato paints a sufficiently big picture for the reader in terms of philosophical conclusion through narrative dialogues and allegories in his writings. Plato does this by granting the interlocutor a paintbrush in drawing the “big picture” so that the appropriate details can be sketched in as needed and refutations are made possible in order to distinguish between what is and what is not relevant. This process gives the readers, as well as the interlocutors, a feeling of overall ...

...Chapter 1 The Dimensions of Psychology Summary: Psychology is an academic and applied discipline that involves the scientific study of mental functions and behaviors. Psychology has the immediate goal of understanding individuals and groups by both establishing general principles and researching specific cases, and by many accounts it ultimately aims to benefit society. In this field, a professional practitioner or researcher is called a psychologist, and can be classified as a social, behavioral, or cognitive scientist. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behavior, while also exploring the physiological and neurobiological processes that underlie certain cognitive functions and behaviors. Structuralism was the first school of psychology and focused on breaking down mental processes into the most basic components. Researchers tried to understand the basic elements of consciousness using a method known as introspection. Wilhelm Wundt, founder of the first psychology lab, was an advocate of this position and is often considered the founder of structuralism, despite the fact that it was his student, Edward B. Titchener who first coined the term to describe this school of thought. Functionalism formed as a reaction to the structuralism and was heavily influenced by the work of William James and the evolutionary theory of Charles Darwin. Functionalists sought to explain the mental processes in a more systematic and accurate...

...TPS 101: INTRODUCTION TO PSYCHOLOGY TPS 101 serves as the beginning course in psychology; as such, it is broad in scope. The course will introduce students to the history of psychology, and current paradigms and theories. We will cover neuroscience, sensation, perception, memory, and language, stress and health psychology, personality and social psychology, intelligence, and developmental psychology. Because of time limitations, none of these topics can be covered in great depth. The reference textbooks and the material presented in class will serve as the primary sources for the material to be covered. INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY OF PSYCHOLOGY Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes. It is an academic and applied discipline involving the scientific study of mental processes and behaviour. Psychology also refers to the application of such knowledge to various spheres of human activity, including problems of individuals' daily lives and the treatment of mental illness. It is largely concerned with humans, although the behaviour and mental processes of animals can also be part of psychology research, either as a subject in its own right (e.g. animal cognition and ethnology), or somewhat more controversially, as a way of gaining an insight into human psychology by means of comparison (including comparative psychology). Origins of the psychology Near the end of 19th century things started drawing together. Questions raised by philosophers were being...

It dispels the myth that you have to be extroverted to be happy and successful.” —JUDITH ORLOFF, M.D., author of Emotional Freedom “In this engaging and beautifully written book, Susan Cain makes a powerful case for the wisdom of introspection. She also warns us ably about the downside to our culture’s noisiness, including all that it risks drowning out. Above the din, Susan’s own voice remains a compelling presence—thoughtful, generous, calm, and eloquent. Quiet deserves a very large readership.” —CHRISTOPHER LANE, author of Shyness: How Normal Behavior Became a Sickness 4/929 “Susan Cain’s quest to understand introversion, a beautifully wrought journey from the lab bench to the motivational speaker’s hall, offers convincing evidence for valuing substance over style, steak over sizzle, and qualities that are, in America, often derided.
