1.1The teaching role and responsibilities are best understood through ‘The learning and teaching cycle’. The cycle consists of five stages – at which stage you start is not important only that each is completed.
* Identify needs; normally done before any teaching, agreeing Individual Learning Plan, signposting to other professional bodies. Being aware of your own boundaries and limitations, determining a suitable physical learning environment for the learning experience to take place that factors individual learner needs. * Planning & Design: Creating or adapting the session plan and required resources that embrace learning styles (VAK) of the group, your teaching approaches: pedagogy/andragogy, ice breakers, ground rules. * Deliver/Facilitate is about how you will impart the knowledge; group/one-two-one or combination your delivery must consider all learning styles and teaching approaches. * Assessment: relates to how you will measure the retention or understanding of imparted knowledge, but also ground rules, your conduct/behaviour. Maintaining records is another key element of your responsibilities * Evaluation: relates to how you can improve your teaching delivery and performance, whether from gaining feedback from learners, to attending meetings or keeping you Continuous Personal Development up-to-date
1.2 To successfully teach learners within the catering industry I will need to have an understanding of regulatory requirements and codes of practice and key legislation. These include;
Awarding Body guidelines for delivery and conducting assessments within catering;
Inspection requirements of OFSTED (essential - a session plan);
Institute for Learning Code of Professional Practice;
DBS clearance to teach children and vulnerable adults;
