...William Brent Batson R. Kaiser ENG-122-X2966 English Composition 1 14EW2 11-18-2014 Unaware A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.” (Brinkley, n.d.). Most seven-year-old boys play with little yellow Tonka toys, at the same time; I romped in a four-block sand box with life-size dump trucks, cranes, and excavators. I am the youngest of four children, thirteen years younger than my next sibling. By the time I was seven my parent’s marriage had reached a point where they decided to get a divorce. I can remember it was winter, cold and gloomy, when my mother came into my room to tell me that I would have to go live with her parents, my grandfather and grandmother Kotara; consequently, I immediately felt warm, energetic and excited when she told me this. Most children I think would have been upset; however, I was being sent to stay with my grandfather, who was my idol and best friend. I was 7 years old when I arrived at my grandfathers, just as eager to see me as I was him, who was a Polish immigrant, which liked Coca Cola, Hersey chocolate bars, pink snowballs, and loved to fish. Pampa, Texas consisted of grasslands, canyons, wheat fields, and ranches, as well as, the constant smell of fresh grass and extreme heat and cold the ever-changing climate. I can close my eyes, and to this day and that smell allows me to envision the vast grassland and canyons that seemed to go on forever. By the time I was born...

However, let’s take a look at the foreign policy and how it does or if it does actually effect some of the events that have taken place around the world. In the last five years many international events have happened and as a policing nation, the United States have been at the forefront for many of the events pushing the foreign policy. ...Are you Aware of SUDEP? “SUDEP is estimated to be the reason for up to 18% of all sudden deaths in patients with epilepsy “(2010). Sudden Unexplained Death in Epilepsy or SUDEP is an unexpected death of a healthy person with epilepsy, and there is no other explanation of their death. When someone dies from SUDEP it is usually unwitnessed and during the night hours when others are sleeping, this also makes it harder to determine if there was another cause of their death. This is what happened to 5-year-old Dallas Daniels. Dallas was diagnosed with epilepsy by the age of one and had not any problems for at least six months prior to his death. His mother said that his seizures were well controlled and there was nothing out of the ordinary to worry about. On January 12, 2011 Ms. Daniels went to wake up Dallas and found him lying face down in his bed. Dallas passed away around 7:30 that morning. Dallas’s cause of death was SUDEP, because there was no other cause to determine otherwise. His mother, like other families who suffer from this tragedy, was unaware of the meaning of SUDEP and how it could be prevented. Doctors still are not familiar with the cause of SUDEP either. There has been research done for many of years but no definite answer has been found yet. There are several possibilities that could be the cause of this sudden death such as: heart failure, respiratory problems, or brain injury. To prevent some of causes from happening there has been development of...

...How Self-Aware Are You? In the article The Manager’s Job: Folklore and Fact (1990), Henry Mintzberg describes managerial work as a set of different roles which include interpersonal, informational and decisional roles. Managers are entitled to formal authority and their role is important and interdependent with others both inside and outside the organization. As managers become the “nerve of the organizational unit” (p.169), they get an opportunity to obtain information from their interpersonal relations. They will process this information to make a decision for the organization. Introspective and self-aware are important characteristics that relates to effective management. The main focus should be on manager’s understanding and response “to the pressures and dilemmas of the job” (p.173). As managers face with new challenges, assistance is unavailable from management science so they tend to rely on their intuition to find solutions. For instance, managers need to find ways to improve the production process in response to technological obsolescence. A manager who has an introspective personality is more likely to enhance his learning and perform his duties effectively. On the other hand, the article titled “Managing Oneself” by Peter Drucker (2005) is based on deep understanding of an individual’s strengths, performances, values, interpersonal skills, belongingness, and greatest contribution. With response to the five questions posed by the author, I have done a self-reflection...

...competitive advantage. However, on the one hand where it is important to be aware of cultural differences of different countries, on the other, it is also hard to be aware of every single aspect of each country’s organisational culture. Therefore, you should be aware of the key factors that have a direct impact on business. These are: Communication is the key to success for any business, whether you are operating nationally or internationally, but when operating internationally it becomes even more important due to language barriers. Passport to Trade 2.0 project aims to remove this barrier by providing training materials in the languages of the country you are operating. Being aware of basic customer needs is an important aspect as this will give the advantage of conveying your message. In simple terms, if you are aware of the customer’s cultural background, then you will be able to adopt better and more suitable advertising methods. Body language is another key factor in cultural difference. As different countries have different ways to convey or share their message, for instance in Germany people tend to speak loudly when sharing ideas, whereas in Japan people speak softly, it very important to know what your body language should be doing when interacting with people whether it’s your business partner or an interviewer. ...Stella Hester EN102 English Composition II Course Project Submission Are you aware of what your child is doing online? Parents should stay well informed on what their teenagers are posting online. In this day and time social networking is a way of life with teenagers. With websites like facebook, twitter, linked in, and myspace we can update everything we do day to day in a matter of seconds. We can also post pictures, tell who are with us, and inform people of our location. These are all excellent things if they are used in the positive light of social networking, but how often are they not? Teenagers are now using these sites to harass and bully peers online. They also leave doors open for adult predators and identity theft. There has been research on the effects of social networking in teens that closely link them to low grades, psychological and social problems, and not being as active which leads them to being overweight. Statistics show that about 75% of teenagers have cell phones, which raises the question “Are we aware of what our teens are posting online”? There are many pros to our children using social media but we as parents have a duty to protect them. We must be good role models and be aware of privacy issues and concerns. There are advancement’s in today’s technology that make it easy for our children to network and stay in touch with their peers. Children who are not likely to socialize the traditional way because of shyness and social anxiety can use their...

My responsibilities as an IQA I teach an accredited qualification and vocational programme. Accreditation - is good practice to ensure that the programme syllabus (programme handbook) is covered. It is achieved by setting a scheme of work (SoW); ensuring that not only I but the other assessors are aware of the programme syllabus. This usually states how the course should be delivered, also whether the assessment criteria will be set by the assessor or is being provided by AO. I also give...

...Should the principal acknowledge the challenges students face? As students, we usually keep all our matters whether personal or school-related to ourselves. This is because; we believe that others won’t understand what we go through everyday due to their lack of understanding or maturity. It is asked whether or not the principals of schools should beware of all matters affecting students, which doesn’t necessarily mean all matters but all matters pertaining to school such as, bullying, classroom sizes, transportation and teacher’s teaching methods. Ever gotten a mean/ rude text on social media? Bullying comes in all forms but, because many students are mostly engaged on using their technology for social media, it is easier for them to be target for bullies via social media. In other words, students can be bullied by others by receiving mean texts and so on. A term used to describe such an action is known as Cyber bullying which many students face. On the television, there are many advertisements based on a scenario where, students are cyber bullied reports such a matter to their teacher or principal, whom finds the “bully” and suspend them for their actions. This is to encourage students that they should report to their principals for; they will assure students that they will make up a solution to the problem and dramatic actions will therefore be taken. ...Affirmative Case Stella Ladeinde, Caroline Njagi, Twila Shocknesse, SasheetaVinesh NUR/542 April 17, 2012 Lousie Rittmiller Teaching Values in Schools Prescribed by the State or Federal Government Who should assume the burden of teaching values? While acknowledging the role of parents as natural caretakers and guardians, an evolving American society has made the vital task of mentoring children increasingly difficult. There has been an apparent decrease in character and moral reasoning among today's youth. In light of this dilemma, the state government should introduce moral and character building content into the education code and standards as a beneficial alternative to the guidance provided by parents and guardians. Tay and Yildirim (2009) assert that schools have two important goals in the effort to develop morality within educational parameters: To teach the current values in the society and to cultivate positive, beneficial habits through this education. In addition, schools create opportunities for students to discuss these values and to help develop their own. The proposition states that a set of values must be prescribed by the state or federal government and taught in schools. Before determining whether a set of values formulated by government can have a positive impact in school as opposed to those instilled at home by the family, understanding the general framework of values is essential. According to Family Values International Encyclopedia of Marriage...

...is direct knowing, presumably because one need make no inferences from one belief to another in the activity of reflecting. Prichard is here endorsing the KK-thesis, i.e., the thesis that knowing implies knowing that one knows. Philosophers who endorse what we can call knowledge internalism accept something akin to what Prichard endorses, though their main focus is slightly different. That is, knowledge internalism concerns not knowing that one knows, as in Prichard, but rather knowing or being aware of that on the basis of which one knows. For example, imagine that you know that a flock of Canada geese has landed in a neighborhood park in your city; and suppose that you came by this piece of knowledge on the basis of and as a result of some testimony from another person who has just returned from that park. Then knowledge internalism would be the view that in knowing that the geese are in the park, one also knows or is aware of that on the basis of which one knows, namely, one is aware of the testimony on...
