...Benefits and Obstacles of Self Awareness: 1. Benefits: Self-awareness is proven to drive success of leaders in what they accomplish and how they are perceived by others. 2. Obstacles: In spite of many benefits that self awareness bring to a leader’s success, many people still ignore to understanding themselves and deny negative feedbacks. They may see themselves as better as or worse than they really are. Inaccurate understanding of self may lead to arrogance or self-diminishment of leaders; therefore it affects the organizational effectiveness. This can occur due to several factors: a. Incompetence: The lesser the competence of individual to assess self, the worse would be the accuracy of self-assessment. Because we may assess ourselves inaccurately, self-assessment is not always treated as a reliable criterion to evaluate self-awareness. It requires individuals the ability to be free from prejudice and biased. b. Motives: It occurs when an individual is inability to accept the truth about self or fail to be dispassionate during self-assessment. The cause of this problem is that individuals are guided by several important motives that push them in one direction or another and the psychological safety prevents leaders to accept objective feedback (Sedikides and Strube 1997). c. Self-Presentation: Self Presentation is the ability to affect public perceptions and persuade followers to believe we are who we show to the outsiders. Leaders often do that...

...Self-awareness is the awareness that one exists as an individual being. Without self-awareness the self perceives and accepts the thoughts that are occurring to be who the self is. Self-awareness gives one the option or choice to choose thoughts being thought rather than simply thinking the thoughts that are stimulated from the accumulative events leading up to the circumstances of the moment. Self-Awareness Theory states that when we focus our attention on ourselves, we evaluate and compare our current behavior to our internal standards and values. We become self-conscious as objective evaluators of ourselves. Various emotional states are intensified by self-awareness, and people sometimes try to reduce or escape it through things like television, video games, drugs, etc. However, some people may seek to increase their self-awareness through these outlets. People are more likely to align their behavior with their standards when made self-aware. People will be negatively affected if they don't live up to their personal standards. Various environmental cues and situations induce awareness of the self, such as mirrors, an audience, or being videotaped or recorded. These cues also increase accuracy of personal memory Self-awareness will provide an internal picture of how you perceive yourself. Your self-image is responsible for your everyday relations to your family, friends and day-by-day acquaintances. A good self-image will make your life and the people around you happy...

...to be discussed. I shall start with some definition of terms to set the scope of my discussion. I will mention four ideas however I shall be focusing more on self-awareness because I believe that this is the fundamental concept upon which the rest of the ideas stem. Firstly, let me begin with self awareness which is defined as the capacity to perceive one’s strength, capabilities and limitations; in other words: insight. Secondly, we have self concept which involves multi-dimensional facets of oneself. One’s past, present and foreseeable future as well as how a person interacts with the people around him/her shapes one’s self concept. Next, we have self-esteem which is roughly the amount of pride one invests in oneself. Lastly we have self-disclosure which is both the conscious and subconscious act of revealing oneself to others. This may include but not limited to thoughts, feelings, aspirations, goals, fears and dreams as well as one’s personal preferences. I believe that self awareness, self concept, self-esteem and disclosure are easily defined concepts. All of these boil down to knowing, understanding and accepting oneself. And when we talk about these things, the questions “why” and “how” often comes to mind. First, why do we need to know ourselves? The answer is pretty obvious. As you develop self awareness, establish self-concept, grow self-esteem and begin self-disclosure you are able to make changes in the thoughts and interpretations you make in your mind. Changing...

...Self-Awareness In Dementia Pablo Gonzalez Estrella Mountian Community College: PSY 101 April 7, 2015 Self-Awareness In Dementia The purpose of this study is to analyze the differences in self-awareness between ten patients who suffer from Alzheimer’s disease and twelve patients that suffer from frontotemporal dementia. However, in the study they also include a group of eleven normal adults to compare the results with. The method used in this study was to have the subjects describe their current personality and their personality before the disease. The first hypothesis was that patients with FTD would be the most inaccurate when describing their current personality. The second hypothesis was that patients who suffered from FTD would not only describe their current personality incorrectly, but they would also fail to acknowledge a change in personality before the disease. The subjects involved in the study were recruited from a dementia clinic in San Francisco. The researchers gathered a broad group of subjects that varied in race, sex and financial status. The subjects then went through a verification process in order for them to qualify for this study. The group of normal adults were recruited through a local newspaper ad and the rest volunteered. All of the subjects needed an informant for them to describe their personality. Therefore, the results would be more accurate and unbiased. The procedure for the study involved a questionnaire called the Interpersonal...

...Surveillance Awareness Project A proposal prepared by Team Underachievers Shea Polansky Gabriela Cde Baca Jacob Nevarez Elliot Nicholas For Dr. Natasha Jones University of New Mexico 2014-10-21 Team Underachievers Memo TO:Dr. Natasha Jones FROM:Team Underachievers DATE:2014-10-7 SUBJECT:Proposal PURPOSE:To acquaint you with our proposal Dear Dr. Jones, Edward Snowden’s leaks about the National Security Agency’s mass surveillance programs created a global debate about privacy, security, and safety. The NSA has the capability to read email, snoop on private social network conversations, observe phone call records, and track the physical locations of citizens not charged nor suspected of any crime, without so much as a warrant. Worse, the demographic most affected this level of snooping on our digital lives, the 18-24 year-old college crowd, is the least knowledgeable and most politically apathetic about the issue. This is a recipe for disaster, and this proposal seeks funding for an awareness campaign that will address it. This campaign will raise awareness about mass surveillance and the Snowden disclosures. We will use posters and flyers to dry attention to the issue. We will use the University of New Mexico as a testing ground, using before and after surveys to gauge effectiveness. If the campaign proves successful, we will recruit volunteers and raise a second round of funding to bring the campaign to college campuses across...

...personal experience of this kind. The author of this article had a friend who was driving down a country road texting while driving. He swerved left of center and hit a box truck head on and died instantly. Everyone in high school at the time knew him so it was quite devastating to the entire student body. There were grief counselors on site for a couple weeks after he passed away. This incident shows how a simple act can instantly affect everyone so quickly. There are more and more texting while driving injuries and deaths happening every day. A lot of these injuries and deaths are in states with lenient texting while driving laws. If communities in the states with these lenient laws helped raise awareness, people may think twice before texting while driving and also raising awareness could possibly lead to the chance to change some laws. Some people believe texting while driving laws make people have to hide their texting behind the wheel, thus making it more dangerous (Masnick, 2012). Regardless of opinions, studies show that there is a significant difference in the number of violations between states with lenient laws and states with strict laws (Masnick, 2012). Texting while driving laws are not strict enough in certain states, making citizens of those states not take texting while driving laws serious, which could possibly cause more accidents and even death....

As not being a native English speaker I was worried that either the members of the groups will take me into their groups. As the class began my tutor John asked us to write our names in a tag and wear it, we were also required to sit in away so that we are facing each other in the class. John then asked to start the first activity which was to introduce the member sitting in front of each of the students. My mate sitting in front of me was Liam and he is working in hospital as a part time employee. On the other hand Abdul sitting next to me is doing HR as major. I felt that by undertaking this activity john was trying to develop our team or classmates and build strong relationship within our group. The activity enabled students get to know each other and It was about to think which group or people I would join for the group task. Finally at the end of the class john formed us in a small group and also helped us to understand the unit outline. Reflecting & Inferring By being a part of the introductory class I realised that we were all in the same track and therefore we needed to introduce ourselves so that we can all reach our task. The first task was to form PLG(Peer Learning Group) which did require us to know each other so that we are...

...Definition: We are interested in counseling and helping abandoned rape victims in India, and change the society's perception of them. So we are considering holding a fashion show to raise money and awareness of this forgotten issue in the feminists’ agenda. Current Condition: The reason we are considering our CSR is because raped women in India are facing some serious issues concerning their well-being and welfare, but they are incapable of confronting and overcoming them on their own (George, 2015). We have already done some CSR ideas in the past. For example, earlier in 2012, to boost awareness of the Mitochondrial Disease, we hosted The Chanel Pour le Temps Charity Fashion Show which was a standout amongst the most foreseen occasions of the year (Chanel Pour le, 2012). Moreover, in 2013, a fashion show was held in Paris' Grand Palais demonstrating eco-friendly supplies and handiwork for their recent cloth collection (Reynolds, 2013). Due to Chanel’s hiatus of CSR activities, the idea is to bring the company an incredible social impact by advertising its name in the midst of the ongoing social justice campaigns and feminism movements. As it is a trademark that is made for women and by a woman, it is important for us to help these neglected women defeat their fears and restore hope in their hearts. Course of Action: Beneficiaries We chose India, or rather specifically northern India, for our new CSR because in 2011 a total of 24,206 rape cases were registered...

...often the individuals the system was designed to protect creating a serious gap in implementing the HSE-MS. Some 4 years ago the former Shell Deepwater Services (SDS) was facing the roll out of their HSE-MS and the question was asked by the Management Team how do we get our personnel to explicitly understand our HSE-MS so that we can get maximum benefit from it? The result of asking this question has been the development and introduction of a series of critically acclaimed workshops aimed at demonstrating an HSE-MS as simply as possible. “Protecting What’s Important 1” and “Protecting What’s Important 2” workshops have received considerable approval from participants for the manner in which the information is presented and for the awareness the courses bring. Description of Workshops Protecting What’s Important 1 In 2000 a team of SDS employees were organized with the goal of bridging the gap between SDS personnel and the HSE-MS. A series of development meetings and pilot programs resulted in the unveiling of Protecting What’s Important (PWI) in 2001. The team that designed the workshop set forth clear objectives for the workshop, with the aim of having participants: • Receive an introduction to the HSE-MS • Get comfortable with the terminology of the HSE-MS • Understand the basic structure of the HSE-MS • Understand what impact an...

...1) Reducing world poverty is a topic that has been around for quite some time. To reduce world poverty, the author states we must raise awareness by ensuring that our students are adequately informed about world poverty, its consequences, and ways it can be reduced. My impression from this is that the author is going to try and persuade me that poverty can be treated by showing me the advantages of awareness to poverty from students. This is a value based statement because it’s the authors inferred opinion that world poverty can end if we raise awareness. 2) Better health care, agricultural techniques and techniques generating electricity are all advancements made in technology that will aid in the fight of poverty. (Singer, 2009) With the technology we have today, the author states that poverty is more presently linked between the rich and the poor. This gives you the impression that because poverty is more mainstreamed into your home and school that it will make you more aware to the poverty problem. Does seeing it on television make you feel worse than seeing it in person? Once again this is a value based statement. Just because technology is better today does not mean that people will magically grow a heart and become compassionate. I believe we must first deal with the lack of empathy there is in the world today. 3) 1.4 billion people are living on 1.25 a day. Due to this many children our going malnourished and dying because the food that they are eating lacks vital...
