YEAR 11 ART THEORY TASK
YEAR 11 ART THEORY TASK

BY BRODIE O’BRIEN

BILL VIOLA- WORK METHODS * Bill Viola has been a discoverer in the use of video and moving images since early in the 70’s, Viola uses state-of-the-art electronic technology and his multimedia installations explore the phenomenon of sense perception. * Viola uses the basics of art making and transforms them to fit his medium (video making). Sometimes he uses more than one screen, playing either simultaneous images of different images but of the same theme in one project, Viola strives for technical perfection in his chosen medium in the same a painter tries to be perfect in a painting. * Viola creates an aesthetic experience just like a painting does by manipulating the focus and sensual colour in his videos. (e.g. “reflecting paradise”) * Frames are slowed down to a point as were the viewer feels connected and drawn into the artwork, his images are left on the screen long enough to disturb and challenge the viewer, the sounds accompanying the images become more apparent to the viewer the longer the artwork continues by becoming deeper, louder or even changing the pitch at a rapid point so the viewer notices. (e.g. “the crossing” 1996) * The artwork doesn’t just simply “begin”, people fade in, out, dissolve and come into focus of the camera, mainly in the centre of the frame so they are portrayed as the main object in the frame. (e.g. ”the fall into paradise” 2005) THEMES THEY EXPLORE * His works focus on the ideas behind fundamental human experiences such as birth, death and aspects of consciousness. SIGNS AND SYMBOLS THEY USE * Viola embodies the world through symbols, ideas, and spiritual phenomena * His main symbols are the earth’s natural elements (fire and water), and he also uses random everyday images such as chairs, and buckets. * He uses simple actions, such as crying, laughing, expressions of happiness and sadness, these are really important to the drama in his artworks. * Viola draws out the viewer’s imagination, memory, dreams, and their inner beings. * He shows us reality in a way that we re-evaluate our on concept of reality.

THE MEDIA THEY WORK WITH * Viola works with video installations, moving images sound and emotion. THE STYLE THAT MEDIA EXPRESSES * A sequence of time that he manipulates to the viewer. * Expresses emotion from the viewers from the emotions used in the work. * Strong use of postmodernism, he broke the rules and subverted conventions of originality. WHERE THEIR INSPRATION COMES FROM * Aspect of spirituality in his work. * He seeks to draw connections from our inner and outer lives. * Uses, textures, colour, depth and tone to create a setting and a mood to his work. * Influenced by: Alberto Giacometti, Joseph Beuys, Mark Rothko THEIR BACKGROUND, EDUCATION, PERSONAL HISTORY * Viola grew up in Queens, New York, and Westbury, New York. He attended P.S. 20 Clinton Hill School, in Flushing, where he was captain of the TV Squad * In 1973, Viola graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor in Fine Arts * On vacation in the mountains with his family, he nearly drowned in a lake, an experience he describes as “… the most beautiful world I’ve ever seen in my life” and “without fear,” and “peaceful”.

SHAUN GLADWELL- WORK METHODS * Gladwell is a digital artist, who skilfully combines past and present in a street manner * Painting * Sculpture THEMES THEY EXPLORE * His work focused on time, seems like it will never end. * Appears he’s “playing” with gravity by turning the camera upside-down *

Weakness: 1) It has become a high cost producer due to the high land prices. 2) Another major drawback is unavailability of land for expansion in the premium wine areas. 3) American producers focused a lot on their large and high priced domestic market, but fell behind global price (low and high points). 4) Average wine prices for US in similarly rated wine was more when compared to Australia. EX: Californian wine was 55$ whereas Australian was 20$. 5) Controlled Immigration has resulted in the increase of labor costs. Opportunities: 1) The US wine market can look to target the super-premium and ultra-premium sections. 2) As the oversupply of the market grew surplus wine was being purchased on the spot which led to the creation of a popular low price brand named “Two Buck Chuck” which sold 5 million cases a year, here is there is an opportunity to market and expand this brand...

...Academy For Scholarships and Entrepreneurship Daquan Stephenson 5/15/2013 New Deal 802 Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal was successful. The New Deal was used to refer to the united states president Franklin D. Roosevelt's program to solve the economic problems created by the Great Depression of the 1930's. However, the new deal didn't end the Depression, but it did relieve much economic hardships and gave Americans faith in the democratic system at the time when the other nations hit by the depression turned to the dictators. The New Deal programs were admired by some people and rejected by other people. The reason to why it was successful was because of the many relief policies. These policies focused on three general goals hope for the needy, economic recovery, and financial reform. During the great fall of the economy in other words the great depression president Roosevelt tried to save the national banking system by closing the Nations bank and declaring it as a bank holiday. During the time citizens of America couldn't withdraw any of their money of deposit or make any transaction due to suspension of all accounts across the nation. That acted as a required over look of da banks to make sure their investors or accounts holders had enough funds to meet their depositors demand. That dramatically increased the trust in the banks from the public for once they are up and running again. The bank holiday...

...Alen Kaminsky 4/15/15 The Life of a Serf in the Medieval Age Henry was a man of few words, and a man with a great deal of responsibility in his life. Being a serf in Medieval Europe was definitely not the easiest of tasks to have. Henry was a man with a family a wife, a son, and an ailing mother, whom he was forced to take care of in their very petite living area. Henry was from France, and served under King Philip II Augustus (AKA Philip II of France), who served Capetian France from 1180-1223. The man was a menacing leader who believed in war first tactics to resolve issues. He used war methods to win back property that originally belonged to France, and “Waged war against the Plantagenet rulers of England” whom ruled the French territories of Normandy, Maine, Anjou, and Aquitaine. You can also attribute his war tactics, and successes to the surplus of income he’d brought to the French monarchy. Henry was among the many serfs whom served under Philip II, but he’d always seem to come out as the favorite in terms of his overall help to Philip II. Henry was a head grounds man to the gardens set up along the palace in which Philip II resided. On top of being a great help to the king, he was an avid supporter of his majesty, and was no pacifist in the slightest, as he supported all the war tactics used to gain back French land from the English. While being a diligent worker was key to his successes in the life of a serf, the negatives of the life were very evident as...

The first responders are assisting with ventilations but he doesn’t seem to tolerate ventilations via bag valve mask. His blood pressure is 110/60, pulse rate of 50, with snoring respirations at a rate of 6 breaths a minuet that are very shallow. With an Oxygen saturation of 80%. He is extremely hypoxia and needs an advanced airway his jaw is clenched tightly and impossible to inset a tube. You decide to prepare for intubation, but first decide a dose of Versed at 1.5mg to open his clenched jaw and will take effect while you prepare all equipment. Using a jaw thrust maneuver you open his airway and visualize that an ET tube is appropriate and viable. You prepare 100mg of succinylcholine estimating the man’s weight is 100kg as a sedative. After administering the drug you will have your partner aggressively monitor vital signs. You now use a laryngoscope and blade to open the epiglottis and hold the tongue for clear visualization. You choose an 8mm diameter tube to insert and you’ve already made sure the balloon inflates with a 10ml syringe. Lubricant will assist in tube placement as well as putting a slight bend in it prior to intubation. The tube is then slid along the right side of the mouth and visualized entering 1/2 to I inch into the vocal cords. Make sure you do not take your eyes off the vocal cords...

The reasons given for this is globalization, highs information technology (IT) investments and the rapid pace of technological change. Organizations are responding in different ways and at different rates to the wide range of IT based opportunities and pressures. The purpose of this paper is to focus on the effects of IT related organizational changes on the management accounting function and to contribute to the body of knowledge about to what extent IT affects the ability to solve accounting tasks. The relationship between IT and accounting practices was investigated qualitatively using six case studies and we will measure the impact of IT on accountants’ tasks. The findings suggest a tendency for change and the decentralization of accounting tasks. Index Terms—Accounting, Accounting Information Systems, Financial Documents, Information Technology, Management Information System. I. ...Theology “Theology is define as the study of God, and his relations with man.”(www.bible.org.com). Theology also states that one should lead to spirituality. Theology puts me in a mindset of thinking about God which is already part of my everyday lifestyle. Many people engage in theology because we each have a set of different beliefs when talking about God. So rather being content with our beliefs, and ideas about God we should each have a desire to know God which theology takes place to teach and give us a better understanding of God. Poor theology and a superficial, inaccurate understanding of God will only make our lives worse instead of bringing the comfort and hope we long for. Knowing about God is crucially important. Reject theology and you doom yourself to life with no sense of direction. This is my first theology course. What I hope to anticipate from this class is a chance to understand more of the world of God. What I also would like to take from this class is to know the living God and who he is. To study theology is to get to know God in order for me to glorify him through my love and obedience for him. All Christians should be consumed with theology the intense, personal study of God in order to know, love, and obey the one with whom we will joyfully spend eternity. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:9). ...Ecuador hosted many civilizations. These included the Valdivia and Machalilla Cultures on the coast and the Quitus and Canari cultures in the mountains. The cultures were unique in their art and religious interests but were consolidated under the Shyris confederation for the benefit of trade and barter. The Shyris confederation was ruled by the Duchicela blood line before the Inca invasion. The confederation fought the Incans for many years before being conquered and falling loosely into the Incan Empire in 1463. I found this really cool story about... well I’ll just tell you the story! When the Spanish conquistadors arrived, the Incan Empire was ruled by Huayna Capac with his sons Atahualpa and Huascar. With Huayna Capac's death in 1525, the empire was divided in two: Atahualpa got the north, with his capital in Quito; Huascar got the south, with its capital in Cusco. In 1530, Atahualpa defeated his own brother, Huascar, and claimed control over the entire empire. Atahualpa's victory was short-lived as he was soon captured by the Spanish conquistadors in Cajamarca, and later killed. Disease plagued the native population during the first decades of Spanish rule, a time when the natives also were forced into the encomienda labor system for the Spanish. In 1563, Quito became the seat of an administrative district of Spain and part of the Viceroyalty of Peru, and later the Viceroyalty of New Granada. After nearly 300 years of Spanish colonization, Quito was still a small city...

...IS 471 Policy Development and Security Issues Lab 4 (Due October 22, 2014) Introduction In any company, a security policy helps to mitigate the risks and threats the business encounters. However, unless a company happens to be in the information security industry, the task of identifying, assessing, and categorizing the myriad of risks can be an overwhelming one. Thankfully, a company’s IT infrastructure can be divided in a logical manner to more easily sort the risks. These divisions are the seven IT domains. The purpose of the seven domains of a typical IT infrastructure is to help organize the roles, responsibilities, and accountabilities for risk management and risk mitigation. In this lab, you will identify known risks, threats, and vulnerabilities, and you will determine which domain of a typical IT infrastructure is affected. You will then discuss security policies to address each identified risk and threat within the seven domains of a typical IT infrastructure. You will next determine which appropriate security policy definition will help mitigate the identified risk, threat, or vulnerability. You will organize your results into a framework that can become part of a layered security strategy. Learning Objectives Upon completing this lab, you will be able to: •     Identify risks, threats, and vulnerabilities commonly found in the seven domains of a typical IT infrastructure.      Determine which domain is impacted by the risk, threat, or vulnerability.      Determine...
