...The Art of Peer Pressure by Kendrick Lamar It is necessary that I begin with disclosing the fact that this song is just an extract of an album that describes the reality of a portion of our society that, unfortunately, is in much more need of help than any of us care to realize. In his album good kid, m.A.A.d city, Kendrick Lamar tells a first person story of a day in the life of a “crew” of young gangbangers from Compton, CA. The album is full of songs that capture specific thoughts, feelings or provide background to what is happening in the story at that particular moment. The transitions between songs present multiple voice recordings from Kendrick’s and his mother’s voicemail. These transitions are part of the album’s chronological order and are vital in attaining a complete personality and mental profile of the characters followed throughout the story. Simply, the songs and transitions are each just a part of a “bigger picture”. There is one song, though, that tells a particular story which I think accounts for the largest piece of this “bigger picture”. The Art of Peer Pressure K.dot (Kendrick Lamar) and three of his blood are driving around Rosecrans in a white Toyota. K.dot (16) is the youngest member of the crew and the oldest is 23. His mother is concerned that he will not get to 11th grade if he keeps “messing around with those damn hoodrats”. This is established in a previous song, but it is indicative that his performance in school has dropped as of recently...

...Alex Mooney 4th Hour Puerto Rico CERC Is Puerto Rico a territory of the United States? Yes, they are, and they should stay that way for a long time. One reason Puerto Rico should stay a territory is for financial aid. Currently, Puerto Rico receives over $2 billion in aid each year from the United States. If they became a state, they would most likely get a lot less aid then now. If Puerto Rico became its own country, they would probably get minimal aid from the United States. Another reason Puerto Rico should remain a territory is the taxes. As a territory, Puerto Rico does not have to pay any federal taxes to the government. The only taxes they pay are local taxes. If Puerto Rico became a state, the Puerto Rican citizens would be forced to pay federal taxes and would become even poorer than before! Also, if they became their own country, they would have to pay federal taxes to the now new government of Puerto Rico. The final reason Puerto Rico should remain a territory is the United States military. As a territory, Puerto Rico does not have a military, so the United States protects them with our military. There would be no additional benefit of joining the Union for military. If they broke off, though, they would have to create an army and they are way too poor and too small to do that. In conclusion, Puerto Rico should remain a territory because of the military, the tax benefits, and the amount of financial...

...Angelique Arrizon American Lit. 11 Period 3 Fitzgerald’s life and its connection to The Great Gatsby During the Jazz Age in 1925, The Great Gatsby was written by Francis Scott Fitzgerald. It was a novel that served as a portrait of the frenzied post- WWI society. It was a novel noted for its remarkable way in which the author captured a cross section of American society. Reflecting mostly on the way Fitzgerald lived, the characters in Gatsby live in a time of corruption. Tom Buchanan’s infidelity, Nick Caraway’s fascination with the lifestyle of wealth, and Jay Gatsby’s idealism of riches are all a reflection of the lifestyle that the author, F. S. F. and his wife Zelda led in the roaring 20’s. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda had had marital problems as well as Tom and Daisy Buchanan did. Like Tom, Fitzgerald had a mistress. Tom insisted that he “[wanted Nick] to meet [his] girl,” he did not care about how uncomfortable it would make Nick to meet the woman he was fooling around with (p 28). Tom and Daisy moved around multiple times similarly to Fitzgerald and his wife. Both couples lived in Chicago, but an incident caused the Buchanans to move up Northeast to New York. “They were careless people Tom and Daisy” just like Zelda and Scott, “they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back to their money or their vast carelessness, or whatever it was that kept them together and left other people to clean up the mess they had made.” (p 179) Always running from their problems...

...Church of Lukumi Babalu v. City of Hialeah The Church of Lukumi Babalu, located in Hialeah, Florida, practiced the Afro-Caribbean-based religion of Santeria. They used animal sacrifice as a form of worship to their god on the celebration of birth, marriage, and death. The case of Church of Lukumi Babalu v. City of Hialeah came to court when the Church of Lukumi Babalu violated the Florida state law of no animal sacrifice or slaughter, unless with a state license. The Church of Lukumi Babalu argued that the city was violating their 1st Amendment rights by not allowing the right of freedom of religion. The City of Hialeah thought otherwise. They argued that animal sacrifice put the citizens of Hialeah's health and safety at risk. The legal...

...Horemheb might’ve pushed the almost 20 year old king down some steps far away from the throne. With Ankhesenamun the only ruler, she had to marry her grandpa Aye making her grandma Tey jealous, so Tey killed her for it. Tey was also mad at Aye so she, and her secret lover, killed Aye allowing them to rule together. Horemheb killed Akhenaten, and then Tutankhamun by pushing him down stairs on a trip from home. Tut had many injuries before and after he died, three of the injuries before he died were a blow to the back of his head, a deep cut on his cheek, and a broken leg which makes it look like he was pushed or fell down some stairs. Also, Tutankhamun was covered in two coats of resin suggesting he died far away from home in which his servants would’ve come with him meaning Horemheb could’ve sabotaged him. No one liked Akhenaten , so why would they like his son, especially one of his advisers, Horemheb. With Akhenaten and Tut down, Ankhesenamun was alone and vulnerable....

...ARTS OF MYANMAR BRIEF HISTORY: The name of the country of Burma (or Myanmar, as it is now officially known) is associated with the dominant ethnic group, the Burmese. Because of the current regime's lack of legitimacy and poor human rights record, it is common practice outside the country not to use the name Myanmar. The country fell under British colonial rule during the 19th century. In 1972, the name of the country was changed to the Socialist Republic of the Union of Burma and in 1988, the military government changed the name to the Union of Myanmar. DEMOGRAPHY: The official population figure in 1995 was 44.74 million, but it may range from 41.7 million to 47 million. RELIGION: Almost 90 percent of the people are Buddhists, and the proportion is higher among the Burmese majority. Buddhism is believed to have been introduced to Burma by missionaries sent by the Indian emperor Ashoka in the third century B.C.E. TRADITIONAL ARTS: Myanmar is a country full of ancient traditions and culture. From time to time, the Myanmars have adapted different cultures and arts. To describe about the Arts of Myanmar, there are 10 Myanmar traditional arts which are metaphorically called "Ten Flowers". Theses arts have been passed on from one century to another until today. The 10 arts are as follows: Panbe (the art of blacksmith) Panbe is the tempering of iron in the furnace to make necessary items.
