It was a novel that served as a portrait of the frenzied post- WWI society. It was a novel noted for its remarkable way in which the author captured a cross section of American society. Reflecting mostly on the way Fitzgerald lived, the characters in Gatsby live in a time of corruption. Tom Buchanan’s infidelity, Nick Caraway’s fascination with the lifestyle of wealth, and Jay Gatsby’s idealism of riches are all a reflection of the lifestyle that the author, F. S. F. and his wife Zelda led in the roaring 20’s. Scott Fitzgerald and Zelda had had marital problems as well as Tom and Daisy Buchanan did. Like Tom, Fitzgerald had a mistress. Tom insisted that he “[wanted Nick] to meet [his] girl,” he did not care about how uncomfortable it would make Nick to meet the woman he was fooling around with (p 28). Tom and Daisy moved around multiple times similarly to Fitzgerald and his wife. In his album good kid, m.A.A.d city, Kendrick Lamar tells a first person story of a day in the life of a “crew” of young gangbangers from Compton, CA. The album is full of songs that capture specific thoughts, feelings or provide background to what is happening in the story at that particular moment. The transitions between songs present multiple voice recordings from Kendrick’s and his mother’s voicemail. These transitions are part of the album’s chronological order and are vital in attaining a complete personality and mental profile of the characters followed throughout the story. ...In the past year homeless students has been increasing. The numbers are expected to increase this following year as well. There are programs that have tried to help out many homeless students. Several government funded housing programs are offered in the state of Washington (Washington Homeless Assistance and Eviction Prevention Programs). There is also different funding levels, such as emergency solutions grant. This grant will help homeless students pay portion of their rent (Washington Homeless Assistance and Eviction Prevention Programs). Looking at these statistics, one can assume that the correlation of wealth and depression are positively related. However, the true definition of success does not include any of these things listed above.
