The Events and Outcomes in the Case of Azaria Chamberlain from 1980 to 1987
Major Events in the Chamberlain Case From 1980-1987: It was around 8pm on the 17th of August 1980 when 9 week old Azaria Chamberlain disappeared from an Ayres Rock campsite, her family had gone there on a holiday. The parents, Lindy and Michael Chamberlain, claimed that a dingo had taken Azaria. 7 days later Azaria’s jumpsuit and singlet was found near a dingo den about 4knm from the camping ground. 3 months later Coroner Dennis Barritt agrees that a dingo had taken Azaria and the case was closed.
The case was reopened on the 17th of September 1981 after British wound expert, James Cameron announced his disbelief that…show more content… On the 2nd of February this jacket was found near ding dens. This led to Lindy’s pardon in 1987 after the royal commissioner could not find any evidence that would stand as proof of Lindy’s Guilt.
Two Possible Conclusions of what Happened on the night of Azaria’s Disappearance: There are two possible explanations for how Azaria died on the 17th of August 1980. One of them is that Lindy Chamberlain killed Azaria. The events of the night if Lindy did indeed kill Azaria began with Lindy leaving the barbeque area with Aiden and Azaria to get a can of baked beans from her car. Before going to the car though she put on her tracksuit pants in the tent and left Aiden in there.
She then went to the car with Azaria in her arms, slit Azaria’s throat with a pair of nail scissors and then placed Azaria’s body in Michael’s camera bag. Lindy then cleaned up the car and herself. Picked up a can of baked beans for Aiden, took off her track pants and went back to the tent. She finally made dingo tracks around the tent; spread Azaria’s blood onto the inside of the tent as well as the sleeping bags one of which her youngest son, Reagan, was asleep in. She then went back to the campsite with Aiden and acted as normal until she cried out that a dingo had taken her
