Dear Sir/Madam:
(Name) has been invited to (attend/visit) the (workshop, conference, give lecture, etc.) sponsored by the (department / division) at the University of California, Santa Cruz for the period of (date) to (date). This visitor will (describe activity) while on B-1 business status in the U.S. (Name) will return to (country) upon participation in this (workshop, conference, lecture, etc) to (state why will return home- ie. to continue studies, to resume University position, etc).
We expect to (reimburse, pay honorarium to) this B-1 business visitor for some travel expenses.
Please assure that the proper VISA and NONIMMIGRANT STATUS are assigned to the visitor: B-1 visa (usually noted as B-1/B-2) and “B-1” notation on Form I-94 upon entry.
The B-1 notation on the I-94 will permit the university to process reimbursement or honorarium as appropriate to this visitor. The visitor must present a passport and a copy of both sides of the I-94 shortly after arrival at UCSC.
