...behavior, and how harmful backing up behavior can be. Backing up behavior is when a coworker helps another if they are behind with their job duties. He explained that we often look at helping another coworker as a good thing on the receiving end, when most of the time it is not only harmful to the person receiving help, but the person giving it also (Barnes, 2008). Chris Barnes found that backing up coworkers could be helpful depending on the amount of work each person has and if the work is evenly distributed (Barnes, 2008). If work is evenly distributed, we have to be aware that no one person has a greater need to receive help from others than the next person (Barnes, 2008). Helping coworkers who have the same amount of work as everyone else, takes from the worker that’s helping, leaving their work idle, which in return puts them at risk of falling behind on their own task. He also explained that backing up behavior is harmful because it will enable some workers to slack on the job they are expected to do (Barnes, 2008). In a study that Chris Barnes conducted he found the longer-term costs of backing up behavior was that individuals receiving back up for a period of time did less work (Barnes, 2008). They formed a habit of doing less work and leaned on the other team members, which made them dependent on back up. He also found that backing up behavior could be helpful. Chris Barnes stated that it is helpful when the team member receiving the back up has a heavier...

...Clinical Assessment University of Phoenix Clinical Assessment I would start by gather as much information as possible concerning every aspect of Clara’s life. Only through a detailed interview with her and the parents could we begin to narrow possibilities of treatment. I would ask Clara to describe her day and home time. Is she happy at school or sad? What is it that happens just before her tantrums start? Did you like preschool at first? Did something change at school to make you not like to go there? How does she feel just before she misbehaves? Are you lonely? I would ask her parents when she started acting this way. How do you get her to stop? How has her sleeping patterns changed? What has changed as far as her eating before these problem arouse? How long before you noticed a change in her behavior? Did something change in her daily routine? Have they noticed any other changes in her? How does she act most of the time? Do her moods swing from high to low? Does she still enjoy the same things she did before? Is there a change in her energy level? Is there a change in mood if she doesn’t get her way? At what age was she adopted? Has there been a change in her house hold recently? What do you know about her birth parents back ground and mental health? Tools that might be helpful would be an intelligence test. I would have a meeting with her teacher to find out how she is doing in school. Clinical observation should always be...

...written on the box COM/156 Smoking: The truth is written on the box How many of you have ever looked at the outside of a pack of cigarettes? You probably noticed there is a surgeon’s warning written on it stating that smoking is a hazard risk. A written statement that smoking is harmful, yet you see people huddled up outside work smoking or out on the drive with cigarette smoke coming out their car windows. Would it be a surprise that secondhand smoke is now a cause for cancer as the direct smoking? Smoking is the number one health hazard in our country. The one thing that I have learned and will explain is that there really is no gain to smoking and quite a few losses. People start smoking cigarettes as an escape from problems or stresses and some people choose to start because of peer pressure or the false image of looking cool. No matter the reason you start smoking effects everyone in some form whether it be by increasing health risks in the smokers as well as people around such as other adults and children, the cost of smoking steadily increases, and there are organizations and plans out to help smokers quit. People have different reasons they choose to start smoking but if they put the reasons next to the after effects that smoking can cause they will see that the effects outweigh the causes. Looking at them makeup of a cigarette explains how these risks are increased in those who smoke. Cigarettes contain additive called nicotine which produces the...

...The news article that I found in the San Diego Union tribune talks about Head start preschools in San Diego. The article was titled “Head Start preschool accused of negligence.” This article in particular discusses how the license of a Head start in the Encinitas area was revoked due to many different complaints. In February, The Head Start by the Sea in Encinitas field to supervise a 4-year-old child who was able to tie a rope around his neck. Although no major damages were done, it was stated that the child suffered minor hemorrhages in his eyes and the line from the rope was visible on the boy’s neck. This head start program did not notify the boy’s mother of the incident but rather accused the incident of happening outside of the classroom. Rudolph Johnson III, the Neighborhood House president, stated, “We believe it happened at home(McDonald,2008).” Head Start took no responsibility of the unsupervised boy and was not promoting policies for the well being of the child. This child was in a dangerous position with no supervision. This incident violated the code of ethics in many different ways. First, the code of ethics states in principle 1.1 that the center will not “harm children. We shall not participate in practices that are emotionally damaging, physically harmful, disrespectful, degrading, dangerous, exploitative, or intimidating to children. In this instance, the little 4-year-old boy was unsupervised allowing him to harm himself. Also, the boy must have learned...

...the demands of daily living. Think about the demands you have on your everyday living. There are sources or causes which are called stressors that give demands that cause changes in the body. A stressor can be physical, mental, emotional, social, and even environmental. Stressor responses can be negative or positive. The positive stressor is Eustress, this is a healthy response. Eustress only means that you are not hurting yourself but being active and getting and adequate amount of sleep when you are trying to accomplish something. Distress is the negative response; it is harmful and produces negative results when you are trying to accomplish a goal. There are three stages of stress. The General Adaptation Syndrome (GAS), which is a series of changes that occur in the body when stress occurs. The first stage is the alarm stage of GAS in which the body gets ready for action. During this stage adrenaline starts to rush, in which the hormones that help your body get ready for emergency. Second is the resistance stage of GAS in which the body attempts to regain balance and return to normal. The final stage is the exhaustion stage, in which there is wear and tear on the body, and there is a higher risk for disease or death. Sources of stress can come from various stressors you’re exposed to. Most stress can happen from things experienced by events in your life. Unwanted pregnancies, deaths, parents divorced, being hurt, teased, bullied, raped, etc. can be some of the reasons you’re...

...came about I would like to discuss acidification and the harms of it. I didn’t know that much about this problem before going into all the research, I knew our oceans we in dire need of help, but I had no idea how bad the acidification has gotten. Ocean acidification is when carbon dioxide (CO2) is absorbed by seawater and those chemical reactions that occur reduce the seawater pH, carbonate ion concentration, and saturation states of biologically important calcium carbonate minerals (NOAA, 2014). Our carbon footprint is killing not only the oceans animals, but we are killing ourselves here. Acidification is especially harmful to the little plankton, oysters, and shellfish. It’s harmful to the coral and the star fish that attach themselves to the coral, the fish that swim in the reefs, sea otters, and even the whales until eventually it finds its way right back to us on our dinner tables. Oceans supply a lot of protein to those who depend on it to supply meals for them and their families. The scary thing is that we are the ones that made this happen; we have made fossil fuels predominate! Every single day over 22 million tons of carbon dioxide is released from our automobiles, the factories, and power plants we work in. *...

...• Analyze funding opportunities for small businesses, including the role of the Small Business Administration (SBA). Then, evaluate the effectiveness of these funding opportunities in light of the current economy. • In this time of economic challenges, suggest two ways that the SBA might be of assistance to your small business. Explain how you would request this assistance. Small businesses have two major options for funding; a bank loan or pursue the Small Business Administration (SBA). A bank loan is standard, acceptance is granted based on a business plan, credit score, collateral and likeliness of success. The same process can be accomplished through the SBA but grants are also available. A grant would be the best option for the start of a small business because these monies do not have to be paid back where as payment of a loan is definite as well as interest. Even if a small business were given a grant in addition to a loan it would only benefit. The SBA would be helpful in today’s economy because they provide information of how to start a business and how to create a business plan. Also, information on government contracts, how laws could effect your business and taxes is available for anyone wanting to start a small business. • Compare and contrast three different types of entrepreneurs and state which you are most likely to emulate should you begin a small business. • Assess the impact of globalization and information technology on the creation...

...Are Cell Phones Dangerous? You are driving down the highway and you hear that familiar sound – you just received a phone call. You reach for your phone but it is not where you put it. You try to keep one eye on the road and search for your phone. Meanwhile, it is ringing like crazy. Finally, you find it only for it to stop ringing. Oh man, another missed call! You see it was your best friend and you decide to call them back. Once again, you try to keep one eye on the road while typing in the number. Does this sound familiar? Do you know someone like this? Cellular phones today have been helpful to keep in touch with people and communicate with others when we are not around them. Sure, it is good to keep in touch when away from home, but most people have not stopped to think about the trouble it causes on the roads or the damages it can have on the user’s body. Dangerous can mean many things when it comes to cell phones. There has been a lot of controversy whether cell phones emit high enough radiation to cause health problems. Some say one of the leading causes of cancer is the radiation from cell phones. The main source of the radiation is through the cell phone’s antenna. The closer the antenna is to a person’s head, the greater the exposure is to the radiation energy. The amount of radiation energy absorbed by a person decreases with increasing distance between the antenna and the user. According to the US Food and Administration, there is not enough of scientific...

...Bret Bluhm Professor Becker E120 21 April 2013 Word Count: 1,930 The Peril: Car Emission Millions of people wake up every morning and turn their cars on. They willingly drive off, but are oblivious to what damage they are doing. The fuel emission coming out the back ends of millions of vehicles are ultimately harming the earth and future generations, a problem the government is making a priority and taking action on. In her article “Car Emissions are EPA’s Problems,” Emma Marris explains how the Supreme Court ruled that the Environmental Protection Agency must regulate the carbon dioxide produced from cars and trucks in the United States. She goes on to say that, “[t]he climatic changes caused by the Global Warming are due to greenhouse gases and the responsibility of EPA is to regulate pollutants under the Clean Air Act” (Marris). This article provides support and evidence to show the serious effect car emission has on the earth. It is evident that car emission is the leading cause of global warming, a problem that can be addressed through being responsible. Although global warming is a highly disputed topic, certain pieces of hard evidence make the problem difficult to ignore. In 2000, more than three hundred NASA scientists published a report: NASA scientists directly correlate global warming with the cooling stratosphere and the depletion of the ozone. Global warming does not necessarily mean only warmer temperatures. The stratosphere is sensitive to temperature...

...earths. Through all of these studies we have found that certain chemicals and there are several in particular that increase the rate of depletion in the ozone but the biggest leader in the depletion of the ozone is Chlorofluorocarbons or CFC's and we will get into that later. An example to show how we are losing the ozone layer in our troposphere is a river. A river usually flows at the same level just as the ozone is moving around but remains at the same level. Once mankind starting introducing these chemicals and other elements into the atmosphere it is lowing the level of ozone before it can be remade again. This is where we are seeing a loss in our ozone and a rise in projects to slow down the emission of CFC's and other things harmful to the ozone. We will now get in depth with the reasons why ozone depletion is happening on earth. The ozone is divided into several different layers that are spread across the troposphere and the stratosphere. The troposphere...

... Timothy Osborne | 12/3/2012 | Roaches and other pest seem to be immune to most pesticides nowadays. In the past few years I have notice that regardless how much you bomb, spray or put out traps they always come back, sometimes with a vengeance. In most communities, mainly apartment complexes, management hire exterminators for preventative measures. But in most cases it’s already too late for that. In recent years there have been studies performed to see why this is and what can be done to fix this ongoing problem. Entomologists by the name of Jules Silverman and Donald N. Bieman conducted an experiment with German cockroaches that were gathered from apartments and a control group of cockroaches that were reared in a lab. Their findings were quite surprising as the insects grown in the lab had no preconceived notion that the poison/bait was dangerous the ones collected from the apartments would touch the bait with their antennas and quickly back off. The evidence gathered showed that the roaches that had been exposed to the different types of poison before were more weary and seemed to not be attracted to the glucose or sugar that had been contaminated by poison. Very few animals avoid glucose (Silverman 1993). This leads me to believe that over time insects and other pest are adapting to the use of pesticides that are normal used in apartments. The developments of other types of pesticides are being created and should be used instead of the glucose based ones. There...
