Abstract
There are many bad habits that different people have. This essay will show you some steps to help get rid of one.

Breaking a Bad Habit
Are you trying to break a bad habit? Do you need some help or advice on some ways to break it? Best believe that after reading this essay, you will be able to break that bad habit in no time. There are many habits that are considered to be bad. There are those like: rolling your hair with your fingers; picking skin off your lip; or smacking when you eat. How about we go with the most famous bad habit that so many people do, and that is biting their fingernails. Many people engage in nail-biting, but there are several steps that a person can use to overcome this bad habit.
The first step to breaking the bad habit of nail biting is to set a goal. Most people who set goals for their bad habits have something to look forward to when they finally stop. It is one of the best ways to help gain that little push that is needed. Some people feel that if there is nothing to gain from breaking a bad habit, then why try to break it at all. They need something to work up to so they can get that good feeling and earn something for all their hard work. When the habit is finally broken, they will have a great feeling of accomplishment for completing their goal.
The next step is something I like to call mad cash. Mad cash is where you get a jar and sit it on a table where everyone can see it. It is basically used for kids and teenagers sometimes. For every day you do not bite your nails, a coin gets placed in the jar. It can be a penny all the way up to a quarter. If your family is in full support of you, they will put whatever they can in the jar. You must be truthful and your nails should be checked by someone to make sure that you have not bitten them. Think about it like this; you bite your nails, you get no money. You resist biting your nails, and watch that jar full up with cash. If you are an adult, you should think about having extra money to spend or save when your jar gets full. Everyone would like to gain money (legally) at some point. Right? So, get your jar and stop biting those nails.
Another step is to locate a store that sells nail polish designed just for the purpose of discouraging nail biting. This is how it works. Place the polish on your nails and every time you attempt to bite your nails, you will get a very nasty taste from the polish. How awful! The polish comes in different colors for girl/women and boy/men can use the clear color. Make sure you place the polish on your nails every day. Once you get sick and tired of that nasty taste in your mouth, soon you will not have to worry about biting your nails.
Finally, a last step would be to take hot sauce or something hot and place it on your nails. When it is a small child, a parent can easily scare the child with this tactic; but make sure the hot sauce is not too hot. Small children usually dislike anything hot or spicy, so it should be easier for you to get them to stop. For teenagers and adult, make sure that you place the sauce on your nails every day. Once you go to bite your nails, your mouth, lips, and tongue should be on fire. If they are not, try adding a bit more spice to the sauce. After you get tired of burning your mouth, lips, and tongue, you will realize that biting your nails is not worth the pain!
In conclusion, breaking a bad habit can be very difficult. For a few people, it may be impossible. However, if you follow my advice and the steps mentioned above, whether it is in the genes, stress, or just plain nervousness, breaking the bad habit of nail biting can be overcome by following the steps listed above. Then, when you look in the mirror with a glowing smile on your face you can say well done!
