Don’t undermine your worth by comparing yourself with others. It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Don’t set your goals by what other people deem important. Only you know what is best for you.
Don’t take for granted the things closest to your heart. Cling to them as they would your life, for without them, life is meaningless.
Don’t let your life slip through your fingers by living in the past or for the future.
By living your life one day at a time, you live ALL the days of your life.
Don’t give up when you still have something to give. Nothing is really over until the moment you stop trying.
Don’t be afraid to admit that you are less than perfect. It is this fragile thread that binds us to each together.
Don’t be afraid to encounter risks. It is by taking chances that we learn how to be brave.
Don’t shut love out of your life by saying it’s impossible to find time. The quickest way to receive love is to give; the fastest way to lose love is to hold it too tightly; and the best way to keep love is to give it wings.
Don’t run through life so fast that you forget not only where you’ve been, but also where you are going.
Don’t forget, a person’s greatest emotional need is to feel appreciated.
Don’t be afraid to learn. Knowledge is weightless, a treasure you can always carry easily.
Don’t use time or words carelessly. Neither can be retrieved.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.

Life Balances

...first topic is how happiness connects to an individual’s professional and personal life and how in order to have a healthy personal life there needs to be a healthy balance at work and vice versa. The second topic is how this connects to a person’s physical health. Thirdly, there will be a discussion on the key factors to maintaining a positive and productive work and personal life. People spend much of their lives working or getting to work. Because so much time is spent in a professional setting with deadlines, pressures and various personalities it is important to understand how to react positively to challenges that are faced on the job. The idea is that if people struggle to maintain a positive attitude at work it can affect the overall success of their day. This could lead to an overall negative experience, which may lead to taking work stresses home. Once a stressed individual is around their loved ones they may find it is difficult to show the necessary interest in those around them and they may be low on patience because they simply have reached their emotional capacity for that day. A cycle can develop in which an individual struggles to get through their work day and then once home struggles to get along with those that they live with. In the end, there is no real rest and relaxation, let alone a positive and happy experience. A person’s personal and professional life is connected to happiness and when joy is not prevalent it can cause health concerns...

Work and Life Balance

...How To Find That Elusive Balance Between Work and Life “Balance is beautiful.” - Miyoko Ohno, Japanese bridge designer Article by Leo Babauta I have a close friend named Norm who is a great photographer and a great person in general … recently he was telling me that all he does is work. That might sound familiar to some of you — I’ve certainly been there at different points in my life, although these days I have to say that I’ve found a pretty good balance between all the important things in my life, including work, family, and other things I’m interested in. Norm asked me to write a post about work-life balance, because although I think Norm is pretty happy with his life, he’s interested in expanding his life beyond work. I think it’s an interesting question that most of us have to address at some point or other. Work *Is* Life, To Some Extent The first thing to point out is that work isn’t separate from life — it’s a part of it. For some people, it’s not a fun part of life, but for others, it’s a passion. Either way, it’s a part of our lives, good or bad. Of course, when people talk about a work-life balance, they mean that we should find a balance between work and our personal lives, which is definitely true. But it’s important to realize that if work is really something you love, you don’t need to cut it short in order to spend more time at home in front of the television. So the key is to remember that what we’re looking for is a balance between the things we love...

Work-Life Balance

...This paper addresses the issue of Work-Life Balance, an area of special interest highlighted by the Navy Civil Engineer Corps’ Women Professional Network (WPN). Through several phone conferences with and input from Civil Engineer Corps (CEC) officers across the Navy and some initial website research, this paper defines work-life balance, assesses the relevance and importance to an officer in the CEC, and provides potential recommendations for consideration. What is Work-Life Balance? Work to live, don’t live to work. The first step is to define work-life balance and understand why it’s important. A good work-life balance means that you have control over your workplace conditions and that you are equally satisfied with your work life and with your home life. Work-life balance means that you have and understand the many benefits of having varied interests and ways to spend your time outside of work. It means you value having other things to focus on, and that you are consequently a happier and more fulfilled person. With this lifestyle comes a greater sense of inner security and confidence and these qualities tend to play out in the way you interact with people, the way you handle stress and problems, and in the way you are perceived as a military officer and leader. Philosophically, you, your home, the organization you work for, and society benefit when you have a balanced work-life. What makes a good work-life balance? This depends on your personal values...

Work Life Balance is not just a phrase it is a very important thing. To organize your social- with your business life will help you to get everything done right. And it could prevent you from getting burned out. At the very beginning we did a spaghetti-challenge to build up some kind of team spirit and to show us that if you do not trial and error you will never succeed and learn how to cope with stress and failure in a playful manner. It was a great idea, but I think the group size was too big to organize it well, it just took too long to get together and this stuff done. Though it showed to me that even such simple things as building up a spaghetti tower with a marshmallow on top could cause a lot of stress and pressure. In the workshop Manage yourself, held by Ms Petra Weiler, we were told to realize, that we have a certain amount of time per week and have to plan it how we want to pass it and how we could arrange our free time around our duties. This skill is very important to be successful in your professional and students life. You could procrastinate and not organize your time and if it comes to the deadlines you will have a lot of stress to do it on time or you could have planned your time and be...
